¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Posted January 23, 2013 Share Posted January 23, 2013 story time after reading that statement, not really related at all, but kinda I guess I booked shows for 10 years at a christian youth center (The Hangout for anyone who knows the place) in Edinboro, outside of Erie, I am far from christian, they wanted me to have bands not swear on stage, be disrespectful ect ect ect and I did my best to try to limit that on stage, and when things would happen on stage, the venue did nothing in response. I booked Integrity in 2003 there as apart of Brothers Keeper's final show, Dwid and Chubfresh said some really awful shit on stage about christianity, which we knew would happen, but whatever, they were pissed (the venue) until I handed them their rent for the next couple months. they said "paying for the rent doesnt change the disrespect they showed us" and i told them I was sorry but I could take these shows back up to Erie if they preferred... and they told me no, and I booked there until it closed in 2011. I the owner was someone I grew close too over that decade, quiet possibly one of the most tolerant people I ever met. christian youth center venues will do anything for a buck to keep their doors open though, as is evident by Rocketown backing down on their stance against same-sex marriage. I don't really think they're backing down on their stance or stating a stance on the issue. They said basically this guy did more than what everyone is up in arms about but people are only talking and reacting to the one aspect of the entire thing. They said " but, generally speaking, an employee would not be fired for expressing opinions on marriage." In my eyes that's them saying they realize people have different thoughts and ideas but they don't take any sides to it. This homeless guy tried selling my friends a fender bass guitar for like 40 bucks but he actually stole it off some other band. You should've seen that guy run. Oh god it was hilarious. He used what was probably them saying they didn't agree with his shirt to get everyone up in arms about it knowing that most people won't get past his story before being turned off by Rocketown. I was the promoter for the Volumes/Of Mice and Men show tonight and got to experience the “incident” with Mr. Barr first hand. As Mr. Barr was being removed from the venue I was standing next to the exit having a conversation with a friend. As an extremely agitated Mr. Barr tried to re-enter the venue, I calmly stepped in front of him and as calm as could be (people get excited at shows often) to please stay outside and cool off for a minute. Mr. Barr then proceeded to verbally attack me calling me “faggot” repeatedly as well as accusing me of being a Christian (I am neither gay nor a Christian). He then proceeded to spit on me 2x before being escorted away by security. All the while still calling me a “faggot”, “Christian faggot”, and so on. I think it’s important that you know more of the story seeing as how its being presented that he was the victim. I do not believe for one second that he was attacked or removed for any reason relating to gay rights. For me personally, I take gay rights very seriously and fully support equality for all. Anyone who knows me or has worked with me over the years will vouch for my professionalism. As for the rest of the members of Volumes, they were very courteous and professional and I look forward to working with them in the future.
