thebiglebowski
Eh, flipping records in it's essence is a very small version of the stock market. Which causes actual problems in this world. Target the stock market, not a hobby cared about by a seriously small minority in the world. It is way easier to make money on a % basis on vinyl than on stocks. The market is also full of things that cause prices to inflate (gold hoarders, petroleum futures, and all other forms of commodities) which have a way bigger impact on our lives than ebaying vinyl, even if you are a big collector. timbrh2001
Title Fight and Fallout Boy? LOL! Yeah, I know its wrong but when the author mentions those bands it really weakens his argument in my eyes. Only helps to promote my stance that haters are "childish". timbrh2001
Hey you guys, I don't understand. If I can't flip the record, how do I listen to the other side? Why do you assume people who buy Fall Out Boy records arent in this for the same reason beanie babies became popular? Dont need to flip a record that's never gonna hit a Turntable. yocaseycasey
Wait a second. You guys know that guy LOSERKID1 from DeadFormat? The one who flips records and always has entertaining posts on the DF forums? http://deadformat.net/posts/loserkid1 He just posted on his Facebook back in January that he was going to be working with UnderTheGunReview.net So isn't this a little counterproductive? "Fuck flippers! Let's hire flippers!" And like the dude on page one said, there's flippers everywhere, but there's only a few on here that have outted themselves due to stupidity. But don't hire the ones that have outted themselves, and then write an editorial about how you hate what they do. That'd be like me posting an editorial about how I hate racists, and fuck racists, and blah blah racists, but then I'm a member of the KKK. (Which I am not). maneatingcow
I've not taken the time to read through every post in here so apologies if this has been brought up earlier, but... I've actually been thinking lately if the part of the boom in Vinyl sales is due the Flippers. Either directly of indirectly. Basically flippers take a rare record of a band that has a cult following and turns a $15 Title Fight Floral Green record into a $70 ebay record. Normal music fans hear about shit like that and then think that all records can be flipped and they start moving towards vinyl because they think they can just resell the records for mega money. Record store day plays it roll in reinforcing this idea. Not saying this is totally true but I know of a couple people who got into, or back into vinyl when the hear or saw the flipping prices. Flipping is a method to almost advertise the hobby. Getting into vinyl is like any Collection based hobby, and the best way to get people hooked is to show them there is value in the Collections. The more people in this hobby the more things get released on Vinyl, the happier I am. So basically I don't hate flippers as a whole. I will say labels or distros should have strict 1 per order limits on rare editions. Hell I've flipped a couple of records in my day and I'm sure I'll flip a few more in the coming days. The best example was RSD last year. I bought a ton of stuff, it was my first RSD where I had unlimited funds, so I bought everything I wanted. Later that day when I got home and saw that I could sell the "Empire Records Soundtrack" for $50 more than I payed, I said fuck it I want the money more than I want that record. tl;dr Flippers gonna flip. Hater gonna hate. I'm going to go meh because all the drama the surrounds this leads to more people getting into this hobby. piecemeal

mattalica17
it's more cool when they give them away with pre-orders but it's theirs so they can do what ever they want with it (esp. don't mind if they use flipped test press money to press more records). daegor
