"Hide" threads?

Recommended Posts

I get how the system is set up. I just think that (using an example that isn't a controversial thread) even though Travis started the MLB Discussion thread, it's not "his" thread to delete or do what he wishes with. It belongs to the group because they have built it up with 500 pages of posts. Would clearly be a dick move if he deleted it (which he wouldn't).

The baseball thread example is a clearer case than the boobs thread, which falls into a grey area. I get it. I'm not upset that it is gone. The system can't recognize that at some point, the OP shouldn't be able to delete for certain "key" threads. And it's not a big deal because people aren't going around deleting "terrible sellers" or "post your collection".

I guess I'll just say that the OP in this thread had a better idea (in my opinion) than deleting threads, which is the ability to remove them from your front page. That is the solution that would make everyone happy.

And just for completeness, I know it was a different time in VC as far as level of moderation but the "manly man thread" and "boobs appreciation thread" are still not as obscene as the number of threads that had that anatomical picture of a vagina in someone's signature. Yeah, you can block sigs. But that was FAR more likely to cause an uncomfortable moment when your boss walks by than the boobs thread being accidentally clicked.

Travis could delete the MLB thread at any time he wants. Any thread that is active on this board could be deleted by the OP, regardless of how long it is. Thing is he has no reason to delete it....unless he the Angels get that bad and he gets mad one day....

There are two differences between the manly man thread and the boobs thread. One is how people were commenting....lots of "woulds" and "wouldn't". Doesn't bother me much but if people thought it was a locker room sausage fest in the boobs thread they didn't really read the comments...it went a lot better than I thought it would. There were very few "I need to express my opinion about this girl" comments. My wife and her girlfriend went through that thread and were harsher on some girls than most dudes.

The second thing about that thread had to do with the message board policy. It was against Proboards policy to post nudes. SRC runs this board now through their website and used a program to build these boards (at least I think.) Its up to them as to what is appropriate posting and not. So that why the porn-ny threads are allowed to exist.

As for accidentally clicking I never had that problem and I can't speak for other people, but I keep multiple tabs open at work so I usually click something else in my tab that doesn't draw attention to my computer. So I'm not sure what the deal is with that.

As for if these threads having a place here, we could also talk MLB, NFL, Beer, Auto Mechanics, Shows, and movie reviews somewhere else too. It just some people post a lot here and want to post about said subjects here. Don't understand why the Appreciation threads were different. Kriss created the guy appreciation thread ( http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/72601-guy-appreciation-thread/ ) that people could bump and post dudes in whatever at any time. I even posted in there and don't have a problem with it.

This post wasn't directed at any one in general, just hope I cleared some things up, since on multiple occasions people were upset about those threads. I gotta remember If people overmoderate people get mad and if the isn't enough moderation people will be unhappy.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Great idea.

I think he wants to follow new content as well, just not certain threads. If I only read followed content, I couldn't pick up anything new.

Yes, that is my perspective. I don't really "follow" too many threads; if it's a preorder I'm interested in, I buy it. My problem is that currently miss threads because they get buried so quickly.

could have just merged a post from an older topic that was before the date of your post, and that person would have became the new OP.

actually, im sure you can still do it, by restoring the thread. just find one of monsterods posts BEFORE your original post starting the topic, and it will make him the OP automatically.

I'm ok without the boobies thread, to be honest. It seems as though the majority of the folks on the board would rather be without it and I certainly don't want alienate any women or anyone that may find the subject matter objectionable. The Internet tubes are clogged up with easily accessible naked ladies, so I don't see it as a HUGE loss to the board/community. Although I enjoyed the "you got your chocolate in my peanut butter" excellence of boobs + records, if its not for the majority of VC, I'd rather it goes the way of so many Moonbeams threads and dies the undignified death it deserves.

i stopped visiting/contributing to the appreesh threads several months ago. if you really need your fix, just go to the chive. every single day they post the exact content of those threads x 50.

but can we get back on the topic of hiding shit? like the nhl thread!

I never cared about the boobs or butt thread, I just didn’t go in them. I think most of the girls here are pretty laid back, and most of the girls here also like girls... so I don’t think those threads bothered any of us.
