HoneyFrosted
I'm tempted, I'm really tempted. Music For The Masses, Some Great Reward, Songs Of Faith And Devotion, Violator, and maybe Exciter or Ultra or something. I just don't wanna run up a huge bill on these... I wonder why they're varying prices?

scentofdeath
So they're re-pressing these again... Their catalog was entirely remastered in 2006 for CD and DVD Audio in 24/96 quality and issued in cd/dvd packages. They were really nice products and the high res DVD-Audio sounded really great and had really nice screens during playback. The lengthy documentary series included with every album was delightful to say the least. There's about 8-9 hours in total of Depeche Mode documentary in interviews complete with their story from their very beginnings, newly made exclusively for these re-issues. They also decided to take the high res transfers, remastered mind you, and press vinyl which was issued in 2007-2008. These, unfortunately weren't as good sounding. They don't sound terrible but you can tell they're digitally processed. The only one that sounds actually good was the Exciter remastered 2LP pressing. Honestly, if you only care about the music, the CD/DVD reissues from 2006 are all the DM you could wish for. If you really need your DM on vinyl, any original pressing will be better than those, and they're widely available still except of course for Playing the Angel which I agree, really needs to be re-issued. I'm curious if these new ones will have the same sources as the last ones.
HoneyFrosted
widely available I can't find the Depeche Mode albums I want on vinyl, that's priced in USD or located in the US, that's in any sort of good condition for less than 30 bucks thefinalsound
scentofdeath
Also, regarding the 2007-2008 re-issues, there were Eurpean pressings (on Mute) and Noth-American pressings (on Rhino/Reprise). The American pressings sounded better than the European ones, can't explain it, but they did. And final observation, the American versions had sloppier appearance overall (dinged jackets, fucked up inner sleeves, scuffed surface on the records) while the European packaging seemed immaculate and sturdier (heavier stock for the inner sleeves for example) and clean shiny records. Am I too big of a DM fan?

Come on, dude. Just because those records are available and ready to be bought doesn't mean they oughta be. I would never pay 50 bucks for Violator with international shipping from Sweden from some guy because some guy from VC told me those are better than the 18 dollar copies that will soon be available to me. Your enticing argument of "The American pressings sounded better than the European ones, can't explain it, but they did." only furthers the point that I shouldn't buy a 50 dollar 1990 copy from some guy in Spain. tvham and thefinalsound

mikeytags
I think I picked up the new reissue of SOFAD yesterday from my local store. They had all 4 listed in the links in the first post, and the timing would lead me to believe it's them, since they come out on Tuesday... but I can't tell for sure. It's on Rhino, 180g, but doesn't have any indication it's a 2014 reissue. The label and sleeve both have the 2007 date. If someone else gets these, please post and let me know what yours say. russtcb
I'll be picking up Violator and SoFaD for sure. I have the Violator Live set that came out a few years back and love it.
spectrum
Since it's on Rhino I am hoping for a Newbury Comic or RSD color exclusive...
JacobMckinley
I picked up Some Great Reward, Black Celebration and Songs of Faith and Devotion. The AQ on these are pretty good, though they don't sound quite as full as my copy of Violator from a few years ago.
tvham
I'm holding out for the inevitable Pop Market bundle. I want these pretty bad... especially Music For the Masses. You called it...all four albums bundled on Pop Market: https://www.popmarket.com/details/29334861?feature_id=29322135 Not bad, works out to under $13 an album
filthyrich
^^Ha... Beat me to it. I'm passing only cuz we see SGW and MFTM come in used pretty regular (and priced around $8 for NM copies). If I were a bigger fan of SOFAD I might pull the trigger as that is a solid price. Rhino really needs to reissue New Order's Substance already. My 15% off for doing a survey from them brought it to $10.41 an album! I think they may have some active coupon codes... coulda swore I saw that in another thread.
