  1. Merchnow is garbage. I think their shitty packing might have had more to do with vinyl not really being back in full swing yet, and the people who work there having no idea how sensitive the contents are.
  2. Ah I see, that does make more sense, you might be right, if so, my mistake.
  3. The article basically points out that companies like amazon treat their employees like shit, so the people who work there don't care about their quality of work. All amazon cares about is that you do it fast and pump it out like an assembly line. If your not a drone and you show signs of human life, they fire you and get a new drone. I would rather buy records off people who care about records. Have my doubts that you actually read the article, beyond skimming the 1st paragraph. It's 4 pages long and there's only 5 minutes between our posts, maybe you are a savant or speed-reader, but that's kind of a tight time frame to see my post, click the link, read and understand the entire article and then drum up a post and click submit.
  4. They sent me an OOP euro import 2xLP in a big box with the most ridiculous dimensions ever. Something like 3' x .75' x .5 so by the time it got here, it was beat up beyond recognition, splitting open at the sides, because it was 98% empty with no packing whatsoever. They literally just took the 2xLP and threw in into a random box. When I opened it, it was laying on an angle because the dimensions of the box were not big enough for the record to even lay flat. Brutal. Never ordered vinyl from them again. I still bought hard to find CDs off them, though. Imports, stuff that was out of print with only 1 copy remaining. Until I read this article: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/02/mac-mcclelland-free-online-shipping-warehouses-labor Don't really see this as groundbreaking anyway since many indie labels have been offering instant downloads with vinyl purchases for a while now. Has nothing to do with Canada compared to USA. Didn't buy from Amazon.ca, or .com, bought from Amazon.de, rare album I could only find through them at the time (until it eventually got repressed by a US label). At that time, just a few years ago, Amazon.ca and Amazon.com didn't even sell vinyl at all. You could always get vinyl through amazon.co.uk because it never really went away in the UK. But yeah at that time amazon.com and .ca didn't even carry vinyl. So yeah that record was sliding around in there all the way from Germany. Bottom line though, I would just rather support DIY, DIT, indie labels and not large multinational conglomerates when I buy music.
  5. That's good, with the way amazon ships, your record will be too warped to actually listen to, anyway.
  6. Best/cheapest place to get mailers is not to buy them at all... Re-use the ones you get from the records you order. As long as they're still in decent shape, which they should be for a few shipments. You can turn em inside out if there's too much tape and shit on the outside, just make sure they're not splitting where the mailer flaps are perforated. I find they can sometimes dry out and split along the perforation especially when re-using them and turning them inside out. I thought this was common practice? How do people not know this? Do they throw them away when they open their mail? When I cut the mailer open I try to keep it in the best shape and I put them aside. I keep anything useful that's in good shape. The mailer, stiffeners, bubblewrap. If I run out of stiffeners I cut up some old LP mailers. I also like to cut up mailers and put stiffeners in my crates to help keep my records pristine. Not only is it on the cheap and hella-DIY but it reduces the environmental impact. Just turn em inside out, boom, done! Here's my question though... you know when you put the cardboard stiffener in, and you make sure to put the stiffener's grain against the grain of the mailer? What do you do when you put 2 stiffeners in? Say you've got the mailer facing down ready to put records in and you lay the first stiffener and of course you go against the grain, then you put the records, bubble wrap/packing paper, then you want to top it off with another stiffener on top before you seal it up. If you put it against the grain of the previous stiffener then it will be in line with the grain of the mailer flaps. If you go against the grain of the flaps, it will be inline with the other stiffener. Which is better, and why? Has anyone else ever wondered about this, or is it just me? Am I way too into packing records? I think either way its good to have that extra piece, but part of me wants to put the stiffeners against each other's grain... but another part of me feels that the major structural weakness inherent in LP mailers is the side with the flaps... I guess either way it's just good to have it in there but I'm trying to perfect my packing method here.
  7. What can I add without reiterating what has already been said? ... Yeah once you get used to solitude, having other people around can easily become a nuisance. The company of animals is different than humans. I would not recommend to everyone to get an animal, some people are terrible at caring for them. But if you already love animals and are responsible and can give it a good home, that's really the sweet spot right there. You get companionship *and* a taste of solitude, which is amazing. Since you already have a dog, that sounds good. Treat your dog amazing, make it your very best buddy, in case it isn't already. Animals > people. I think maybe, from what I read... it's not the 'living alone' that's tough, but the 'not having someone around' if that makes sense. It takes time to heal after a breakup, living alone or not, and I think it might be possible to confuse the two. Give it time and you will start to see how much of a blessing solitude can actually be. Make the best of it. One thing that's key is not to confuse loneliness and solitude. Solitude is *awesome*, and hopefully leaves you with time and space to do the things you want, work on what you want. Play music as loud as you want, get better at an instrument or other hobby without having to worry about people being around, which could be distracting or discouraging. Maybe invite friends over? Or depending on where you are, maybe get skype? If any of your friends long distance can make the time to skype with you, it's actually pretty cool. I know many people like to have other people around, but I don't see things that way. I see it as a distraction, like a dog chasing it's own tail. There are people like myself, who read what you are typing, and I understand how the adjustment is difficult, at first. But, really though.... I WISH I could be living in a big house all to myself right now. I would be OCDing like crazy, and loving every minute of it, getting everything set up exactly as I want it. If you have a workspace/office/studio set it up ergonomically to make work easier and more enjoyable. If you're into organization, living alone is a massive blessing. Paragraphs are kind of unorganized, but I hope it helps!
  8. Yeah I had the same thing happen to me, I noticed after I started adding stuff to my list(s), it was the same record you mentioned that appeared and everything. So weird. Also, I can't browse other people's wants/haves on VC... If I attempt to, it suddenly changes over to my wants/haves.
  9. Hahah sorry dude wasn't sure if that was accepted common practice, or if it's different from person to person but I saw more than a few piggybacks but yeah haha... I have so much shit to put up for sale its gonna take a while to list it all but I am getting there.
  10. I have a Big Dirty for $30, it's on purple w/ splatter. Canada shipping though. I have a leopard splatter big dirty as well that I would prob only sell if the price was right. Couple different versions of Gutter Phenomenon as well.
  11. I get tons of those man ... major lowball considering shipping to the US from Canada is about $17 for 1 LP. Plus paypal fees. I'm not going to give people money to take a mint, limited edition record off my hands. Esp. not one that regularly goes on eBay for like $50, or whatever the case may be. I don't understand how people don't see how ridiculous these 'offers' are. It's not even lowball, its just plain ignorant.
  12. The show does differ slightly in certain respects, but I don't think they are leaving it out. I think it will happen soon. In the book one of his buddies gets taken out and that's when he uses the opportunity to strike. But yeah I was totally thinking the same thing during that first scene.
  13. *spoiler alert* You two referring to how he's supposed to kill a white-walker with an obsidian blade?
  14. Can I piggy back on this? Just to put it out there that I also have Botch, Converge, ISIS, Pelican, and Red Sparowes albums for sale. Looks like most of those are gone now so if anyone is still looking, hit me up with a PM.
  15. Yeah, I also heard that book 3 is being split into 2 seasons to be able to do justice to the contents of the book. Book 1 = Season 1 Book 2 = Season 2 Book 3 = Season 3 & 4
  16. So that FYS rise or die is still up for grabs then, yeah? I'll take it!
  17. I got one of those Deerhoof flexibooks, really cool idea. I dig this label.
  18. I have the opposite/tear 2xLP (NOT the recent re-master/repress) I've got an extra III/III 7" and a pair of Tropic Rot 2xLPs (one of each colour) Also have an extra set of all 3 I/III II/III III/III 7"s and a copy of Versions on 180 grab black /200 that I would let go if the price is right.
  19. Submitting an album because the version I have for sale is not listed on Discogs yet. How do I file the submission under a 'master album'? When I submitted, it created its own master album but I think it should go under the master album along with the other versions.
  20. Uh, neither coast, really. Ontario. More east than west, I suppose.
  21. I would sell the album itself for $22. Plus shipping from Canada to US would be like $16. You might be able to get the same variant within US for cheaper... not sure how much they usually go for.
