  1. Hopefully someone has an answer to this: I purchased a turntable on ebay for not a small chunk of change. I gave instructions to the seller on how to pack it. They were quite detailed. It sounds like they are following them mostly so we'll see what shape it's in when it gets to me. I am being charged a flat fee of $50 which is probably a fair amount considering the weight and packing. My question is: if the turntable is damaged when it gets to me, and the damage was due to improper packing, do I have a legit claim with ebay to get reimbursed? What about if the packing was good and it still gets damaged? What about if the damage was caused by the shipping handler? Is it my responsibility to get insurance on the item or will I be covered no matter what and it is therefore the responsibility of the seller to get insurance? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. The best part of RSD is coming here and reading the stories about how the stores turned into shit shows when the doors opened, and how the asshole in front of you bought all 4 copies of the DMB box set and then declared that they would sell them for a reasonable 50% markup before putting them on ebay you know just to be nice, and then the stories about the chaotic scramble and constant website refreshing for left over scraps online that night. Good times, good times...
  3. I also got a shipping notification from amazon last night saying it is supposed to be here Tuesday.
  4. The Sleeve City ones have the adhesive on the sleeve, not the flap. This cuts down on the chances that the adhesive comes in contact with the LP jacket.
  5. I don't know which is more expensive, but at least the drug habit is better for you...
  6. Metal Archives says this is 65 minutes so I doubt the version on Amazon is a single LP
  7. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NOCK4ZC Strangely about $8 cheaper if you order from the UK. Maybe Amazon US will come down in price.
  8. Discogs is decent but not the be all end all source for information. For things with lots of pressings, it can be hard to wade through all the pressing listings in Discogs because they aren't listed in order. Google can be useful and even ebay. If you do enough checking around, you will start figuring out what labels and matrix numbers to look for. If I'm going after a 1st pressing of ITCOTCK, I'm checking lots of sources to make sure I know what's what because that one isn't coming cheap. Try this thread for some useful information: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/which-king-crimson-itcotck-island-uk-matrices-are-from-the-master-tapes.190080/ FYI, as you probably are realizing, being a 1st pressing collector can get very expensive very quickly.
  9. The May 27, 2014 release is part of Blue Note's 75th anniversary vinyl reissue program. From what I've read, all the releases in that program that have been in print are just represses. They haven't been mastered again specifically for the reissue program. So my guess is that the 2013 and 2014 versions have identical wax inside.
  10. I ordered the UK box as a placeholder yesterday. It was listed at 42.99GBP. Excluding VAT, the box was 35.83GBP and standard shipping (probably 7-10 days) was 3.08GBP for a total of 38.91GBP. Based on yesterday's exchange rate, it was something around $64 or so which is about the price of the 3 albums from Amazon US. The UK box says Parlaphone on the spine so presumably the individual LPs will also say that. The US versions will say BMG or whatever. I still haven't figured out if they are identical pressings and just packaged differently or if they are separately pressed in each country.
  11. Where are you seeing those prices? I ordered the 3D vinyl and it was like $35 shipped. Is that int'l shipping?
  12. Are the UK and US pressings going to be done in the same plant? The first line in the release says "Parlophone Records (BMG/INgrooves Music Group for the USA) will follow..." so maybe that means they are being pressed separately? I'm debating getting the box set from Amazon UK since I can't find it anywhere in the US, but I don't want to buy waves 2 and 3 in the US if they will be different from the UK pressings.
  13. Any USA locations selling the box? Don't see it on amazon.
  14. Probably rare Probably not worth much, except maybe to a die hard collector of Young or Hendrix It'd be cool if there was some weird story behind it like Neil thought Electric Ladyland was the best album of all time and had one copy pressed like that as some sort of homage to Jimi and decided to let fate decide which person got it.
  15. Practice this on records you don't care about first. Then try it on a keeper. I've done this and it actually works. The results vary depending on the damage to the record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYZHkDhad54 This one seems a little harsher but it is still effective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r7iae2rjWE A better stylus will generally improve the ability to handle scratches. As a general rule, the better the stylus, the less the surface noise it will pick up. Some people find that a microline stylus is better than an elliptical or conical stylus. Audio Technica has a reasonably priced microline one. I believe the model is AT440MLA. That's what I run and I like it. Many people say the Nagaoka stylus line is very good at eliminated surface noise from hairline cracks. I've never used one so I can't give any first hand experience. If the groove is damaged all the way to the bottom or there is a gouge in the vinyl surface, it is basically beyond repair and may even damage your stylus trying to play it. Setting the tracking weight too light will cause skips since the tonearm is more likely to bounce around if the stylus encounters something on the record. If you are buying the tracking weight gauge, make sure you set the weight within the guidelines for the cartridge.
  16. Yep, still up for $64.99. Pretty solid deal.
  17. That Euro variant is tits. Like some fire god blessed the records by blowing his load all over them. I guess I'll have to settle for the Grimace spooge variant instead.
  18. Anyone else get shipping notifications for these in the US? I ordered both LPs.
  19. If Mondo would have included this as a bonus 7" or something, then maybe... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zXr9GLa0Jo
  20. I got all 3 super deluxe box sets in the mail yesterday. Heavy as fuck boxes, too. Haven't opened them yet.
  21. Oh and by the way, let me spread these out on my tile floor because tile will never scratch the records...
  22. Yep. I doubt it pans out but why not try. Hell, I'm not even a big fan of hers but the wife likes her.
  23. I know. There are still a few copies left of the all but the clear version. My birthday is tomorrow. The white or black edition would be pretty sweet. Not a huge fan of splatter vinyl in general. The clear set would have been tits to own because of the signed Thanks list but I really just want the vinyl and the DVD. I'd be curious to know how many of these sold through the preorder thing that Blood Music does for membership holders.
  24. US$350 + shipping for splatter version as well. Shipping on these beasts must be steep!
