  1. Even thinking it over, if they went with this approach it would only make sense if they had a single list released on three different days. Maybe the dedicated flippers would try to make it out three times but most people would aim for one date, try to get their want list, then be done with it. It would even make it likelier people would get what they want since presumably there would be less people showing up each day since it would be the same records on sale (and isn't less people the whole point??). Three dates with three totally different releases makes less than zero sense. It makes negative sense. I can't understand how more than two people sitting in a room planning this out couldn't come to that conclusion. I'm baffled...
  2. I just don’t understand their instance on making this happen, and doubling down with firm dates each time they reschedule. I mean, how confident is anyone really that by August we’ll be at a place where gathering in crowds and camping out in front a retail shop will be ok? That’s only a few months away... If they’re determined not to cancel it, why can’t they leave it open-ended until we have a better picture on how society will function post-lockdown?
  3. Let me repeat what I said the first time they rescheduled and say I think they’re being optimistic. Can they please just release the stock and/or just cancel the event? This is probably the worst possible idea if you were to put it up against everything that’s been suggested in this thread...
  4. I mean, it's funny how quickly people's conception of things change. Not to defend Amoeba, but it wasn't that long ago that record stores were disappearing left and right. Truth be told, it's a minor miracle a place as large as Amoeba managed to stay open through the early 2000s when everything was going digital. As others have noted, it's not like they have small shops in low cost areas. Then the vinyl boom happened, turntables are featured in every trendy Netflix series, a new VYNL vinyl subscription service pops up every other month, Urban Outfitters has a whole section of their megastores dedicated to records and everyone thinks these venerable indie shops just rake it in but the places like Amoeba and Reckless and Bullmoose didn't just pop up overnight in the middle of the vinyl boom, I'm sure they had many lean years leading up to the 2010s and the age of Record Store Days.
  5. I just look back and think of all the times I walked into Amoeba - fresh out of college and understandably with little free cash - and while checking out a record I grabbed off the rack that I'd loved to have purchased the clerk just stood next to me and whispered "Take it - go ahead. We know times are hard but we're here for you."
  6. I love Amoeba but seriously, after Newbury Comics, they’re probably the last record store I’d feel compelled to contribute to a GoFundMe for...
  7. If it were up to me I’d allocate the stock to stores as promised and let them do as they please. Sell online in one day, trickle it out over weeks or months, save it for when they reopen to the public, hold it all black until RSDBF - if it’s not going to be possible to do a single holiday like past years and any further delay will start bumping up against Black Friday, let the stores do as they wish, they should know what works best in their situation.
  8. I thought June was optimistic back then and I don’t feel any better about it now. I think we’re looking at online RSD this year whether they want to or not, another delay seems unlikely.
  9. Happy Originally Scheduled Record Store Day 2020, everyone!
  10. I just happen to have bought something with an offer last week and double-checked and sales tax was charged so maybe it was a fluke?
  11. Can someone refresh my memory on when they usually do vinyl drops? Is it 1pm EST on Wednesdays?
  12. When was the deadline? I bought one of the reissues second-hand a couple of months ago but didn’t bother scratching the card because I figured it was too late to turn in.
  13. I don’t know about that: E3 was cancelled and it’s June 9-11. Apple moved their June developer’s conference to online only. A lot of Gay Pride events which traditionally take place in June have been cancelled or postponed. I think it’s just a matter of being so far out that organizers of May/June events are taking a wait-and-see approach for now, but it seems weird to me to go to the effort of postponing something in April only to move it two months later. Again, most of the stuff I’ve seen postponed (rather than flat out cancelled) is up in the air in terms of rescheduling. (Though I guess much later than June and it would practically overlap with Black Friday...)
  14. I don’t want to be an alarmist but am I the only one that thinks June 20 is optimistic? I'm surprised they didn’t just postpone until “summer” without giving a specific date yet.
  15. So, it appears there was a since-deleted tweet that said the whole event was being moved to June 20: http://exclaim.ca/music/article/record_store_day_2020_is_about_to_be_postponed Also found a reference to it here; http://www.noise11.com/news/record-store-day-2020-postponed-until-june-20200313
  16. Allowing online sales was my first thought, I know it breaks all tradition but “desperate times call for desperate measures” and all that...
  17. So I would have thought it ridiculous even a week ago but now I’m really wondering if coronavirus is going to end up impacting RSD. Long, slow lines and tiny rooms crammed full of people standing shoulder-to-shoulder seems to be exactly what local governments are trying to avoid. Certainly in a city like Seattle or NYC that’s on semi-lockdown, this has got to be something that’s under consideration?
  18. I’m not a fan but wasn’t there some Giant Type O Negative box a few years back that goes for crazy amounts now?
  19. https://www.davidbowie.com/blog/2020/2/19/im-only-dancing-for-record-store-day-2020 Nice to see some Bowie releases on RSD, for a change! Now if only we get three Kinks 7"s and some random Flaming Lips stuff nobody wants or asked for I can get some peace... (And maybe some random 90s alterna-soundtrack with pixelated cover art sourced from a CD.)
