This is one step removed from just burning an album to a CD-R, handwriting the release info and calling it a “compact disc reference test pressing” or something. Which I’m sure someone’s done... 🙄

Exactly, it's just like gold! I mean at jewelry stores and online precious metal exchanges, it seems every few weeks the highest sale number has gone up, yet new gold is listed almost every day. It’s not supply and demand driving up cost, it seems like people just buying the first one they see. I’ve been following it on both, there are tons of nuggets always being posted for sale. People keep buying gold above market value when they could just wait a couple days for more to be posted at the lower end of the price range. Instead, they end up paying a top-end dealer and the whole price spectrum shifts up. A year ago it was a $1,400 an ounce. Today it's $1,985.

They’re just mockups so who knows what they’ll end up being, they’re just presented like picture discs and honestly this is exactly kind of release that would be on pic disc.

Yup, we all know how whenever a big preorder comes out they love putting huge closeups of the center labels next to the jackets so you can really get a feel for the artwork...

It’s kind of funny when you see HQ reissues of stuff from, say, Dinosaur Jr that was originally recorded onto 4-track and whose production cost was something like $300 and a baggie of weed...

Except their entire business model is offering more or less the same thing you can get at several other places for less money and selling it at a higher margin just because they can.

Nothing but Southeby’s for me.

In fairness, they went down when they were supposed to and were then relisted an hour later. (Honestly, that’s even worse.)
