  1. I always felt that finding somebody who puts up with me AND all of my friends and family is kind of a tall order. but then, I don't even want to deal with my family and my friends are all assholes.
  2. it will fix a number of potential problems. 1) Those speakers are rear-ported. That usually means that you will get better bass performance if there is space between the rear of the speaker and any surface behind them (generally ~1 foot or more is ideal). 2) You have a thing that turns vibrations into a sound signal (turntable) basically sitting on top of a thing that takes that sound signal and turns it into vibrations (speakers). Moving the speakers onto stands, it will ensure that they aren't interfering with the turntable. bonus issue: not sure how happy the sprout is going to be wedged between books long term. It might overheat.
  3. sounds like the phono preamp is faulty. Return/exchange it. If, for some reason, you are not convinced, you can try flipping the red/white inputs around and see if the problem follows. as for why you're getting 1 channel spread across both right and left when only 1 cable is plugged in, your AV amp may be doing this assuming it is receiving a mono source? If that's the case, it's kind of a goofy feature as mono sources are uncommon and you can easily support them with a Y cable.
  4. it sounds like you are not understanding some fundamental stuff. I recommend a trip up to the beginner thread stickied at the top.
  5. I replaced the pads on mine and I still had sweaty ears. much happier with open-back style headphones, but that won't fly in an office type environment.
  6. You'll likely get better value spending the $800 on an integrated amp.
  7. You need an amplifier first. Then you may or may not need a stereo preamp.
  8. I kind of wonder if the rusty pickups/finish cracks etc are due to moisture damage. I'd just be rid of it.
  9. Returns accepted. You should get stuck for shipping or whatever but that's the risk you take. The fact that the seller can barely form a sentence would have been enough to scare me away. PS this should probably be in the "everything else" forum, if not in the axe/gear topic.
  10. assuming you've googled this and read the longish post from the designer (Baldr) over on Head-Fi addressing similar issues?
  11. Construct a Faraday cage and place the phono preamp inside.
  12. assuming the intent is to have one pair of speakers connected to a stereo amp for music and then an AV amp for AVing, you would indeed have significant issues using the bi-amp terminals to that end. bi-amp terminals are intended to allow you to use one amp to power the high end and another amp to power the low end, but only one source. what you would need instead is an amp that supports a home theater bypass type feature. I have my system set up this way. So my stereo amp is always powering my front speakers and then the AV receiver picks up the front/rear duties when in use. Here's a not-at-all nerdy diagram that shows how I have everything connected.
  13. FYI. Paypal protection does not cover gift card purchases.
  14. it's about the height it should be. The tweeters are mostly lined up. I would be tempted to knock one of those middle supports out and create a double wide nook for components and have a little less clutter up top.
  15. 1) The Onion being soft on left wing candidates and coming down hard on right wing candidates is NOT new. 2) The Onion is far more pro-Bernie than pro-Hillary. (*As long as you ignore that scathing piece about his wild hand gestures) 3) Bernie supporters calling Hillary "uninspiring" is 100% a thing and worth calling out. 4) All those other pieces about Hillary being a coercive, tepid, robot following an unholy tide of fate to victory do not fit your story. 5) Donald Trump is a living, breathing sack of shit and deserves whatever mockery that comes his way.
  16. No clue what you're trying to say. The Onion has been a left wing publication since its inception--as is most comedy. If that's what you call propaganda, ok. If you're suggesting that any article they write featuring a candidate is promotion, then you could just as easily say they're promoting Carson, Trump, or Cruz.
