I don't get why this bands records sell out so quickly.  I guess really hyping up the exact time a record will drop, along with constant social media plugs really makes kids think they *need* something they'll probably never play.
That's not a shot at the people here buying the record, I think pretty much everyone on this forum plays their records.

Went over to friends' house recently and they apparently inherited their Aunt's record collection a while back. They don't care too much about the records, sometimes they listen, but it's more sentimental than complete appreciation for the records. Half way through I had to stop looking, as it was too painful to see all of the titles in amazing condition. Just saw stuff that you rarely see like almost every record on Black Jazz Records, early Bergenfield pressing Prestige records, lots of Latin jazz, though no Blue Note that I have seen so far. I'm afraid to see what else is in there. They did end up giving me a deep groove mono copy of "Kirk's Work" by Roland Kirk with Jack McDuff. Hopefully they will be kind enough to kick down some more.

Picked up the Blue Note/Music Matters 33 1/3 reissue of Grant Green's Idle Moments a couple weeks ago. Solid stuff. Pretty mellow. Dig it.

Fuck. You guys don't know how happy I was to see a bump for this and a bunch of replies. So cool! I hate sounding like an old man, but so many people will not venture out of their comfort zones musically just because it's perceived to be uncool or not relevant. Jazz spent the better part of 60 years being the relevant music for white, black and Latin people. It's a shame people don't give new things a try just because of ignorance.

    Sorry for the soapbox.

If you're talking about my DF list that is only my trade stuff, not my collection. Since I have weeded it out a few times, I am pretty much keeping all my jazz. For crazy blazing bop, Charlie Parker is always tops. My fav bop musicians are Coltrane, Monk, Jackie Mclean, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, and Donald Byrd. I also have almost every release on the Black Jazz label which focused on spiritual and soul jazz, very solid label. I've been lucky enough to see performances by, Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, Big John Patton, Doug Carn, Calvin Keys, and Lonnie Smith.

I love the complexity of jazz and listening for nuances. I can't speak intelligently from a musician's standpoint, only about what I like in listener's terms. What is also cool about jazz is that the musicians always played with different people throughout their careers and to hear what different musicians brought out of them is exciting. As a record buyer it is fun too look for your favorite players on different records.
For instance, when I was buying a lot of soul jazz I would always look for sessions where Bernard Purdie was playing drums. If he was on a side you knew it was most likely going to be funky as hell.

Myself and a friend started a label/art collective called Near Mint. Today is the official "launch" with a pre-order of The Obsessives' Manners EP which you can get on cassette. We are planning to do vinyl by the summer and possibly a lathe cut before then.

Regarding the art collective part, we will be doing limited edition prints of shirts, posters, zines, and cool things like that after our next few releases.

This is what I mean about the straight edge thing, be straight edge all you want, there's no need to fucking label yourself and wear it on your sleeve (literally tattooed on you) there's plenty of people who don't do drugs or drink but you don't have to label them as straight edge. It's a personal life choice, and that's what it should stay as, not some kind of weird aesthetic where you get giant X's tattooed on you. Most of the sXe kids I know are real douchey about it, they're like the vegans who have to be annoying and make sure you know that they're vegan. It's all very pretentious to me.

I don't care what happens JM is playing at Beach Goth this year and I will stage dive the fuck on Burger Records kids. But honestly he probably called him a straight edge piece of shit because the whole straight edge think is stupid as fuck and annoying.

Whenever I see a big person about to stage dive I just move and let then hit the floor. No issues with sub-160 pounders doing it though.

If you have the funds you should buy a ticket and see them anyways!  Support touring bands, not just because of a record they may or may not have with them.

Seriously. The poor guy was just in the moment. He wasn't head walking, he wasn't crowd killing. He was legitimately just trying to have fun to a band he probably really likes. To then have that band STOP PLAYING and drag you by the shirt back to the stage to publicly ridicule you for doing something that in your mind was showing support for them? Unreal. That dude was even cool about it after the fact and shook his hand and walked calmly off stage, and probably felt like shit the rest of the night for enjoying himself.

I definitely get that they want to protect their fans but god damn, that was painful to watch.

I get his point to an extent.  More importantly, he definitely could have made his point in a less childish way.  The guy who was stage-diving was obviously someone who was pretty into Joyce Manor, and to bring a fan up on stage and humiliate him like that is obnoxious.

The older I got the more I realized that shows are more enjoyable (from an actually listening to/watching the band play aspect) the farther you are from any section where you have to constantly worry about your surroundings. Yea, when I was younger I thought it was fun to be up close and jump around or whatever, but now I realize I paid to see a performance.
Long story short, if you are young and enjoy hurting people/getting hurt then knock yourself out. I'll be towards the back drinking a beer and enjoying the show.

Stage diving is one of the most selfish, asshole things you can do at a show.  Only thing that tops it (IMO) is grabbing the mic from someone who's singing and yelling into it.  I paid to watch the band play, not watch you live out your fantasy of being on stage for a second.

Serious props to any band who calls people out for stage diving.

Barry talked 3 times in the middle of songs and each time was a rant about how stupid people are for crowd surfing and stage diving. The music was good, but I don't really like preaching no matter what the subject. It's embarrassing to watch for me.
eDit: this was in reference to the question being asked on how the show was

In my opinion, when you go to shows like this you should expect people to be moving around (whether that is stage diving or pushing one another around) so if you're up front you should be prepared. And I feel that most bands are stoked when the fans are into it, instead of them just standing there bobbing their heads.
