I think OP means that the outer rim balloons out instead of stays flat. So if you placed the jacket over the record, it would sit up maybe 1mm over the grooves rather than sitting on the grooves directly.
This is extremely common across all kinds of records. My guess is that this is a side effect from a specific brand or model of pressing machine. I actually find the lip preferable; makes grabbing the thing a lot easier.

the color is making it so it dosnt show up at all in pics, i noticed its very smooth and consistent the whole way round, and its the same between the two albums (pressed by the same company released at the same time)

So I'm new to this. Not music or sound but vinyl. Im 19 a college student and have shit for money, that being said heres my set up that I'm damn proud of.

-sony ps lx 300 usb turntable (around 100 bucks, a gift from my gf for christmas)
-pre amp included in the turntable
-old zenith receiver circa 1995 ( i found just laying around a family members house he was happy to see go)
-two rca tweeters i got for free from a friend (the impedance isn't high enough but they work well)
-two rca surrounds and a rca center i got from a thrift store (5 bucks for the lot)
-one zenith powered sub i got with the reciever
-all connected by the thinest speaker wire radio shack offers and old rca cables and a y split for the sub

total is about 115 dollars including 100 for the turntable

this is a shit set up that most people would laugh at but at the end of the day I'm quite pleased with myself each piece took time to find (lots of thrift store diving for those speakers) and it delivers music to my ears just fine

so this is a thread to brag about a set up that won't turn any heads but that you enjoy and are proud of, now or in the past, id love to see this take off so share with your friends, enjoy the music:)

No, no, no ... the Troll Farm is where they field complaints and grievances from those who are unsatisfied with their thrift store purchases.  Trolls get a bad rap, but they're really quite adept at customer service.

Hey. Is the vinyl noticeably warped at all. As in, when it's playing, does the tone arm move up and down quite a lot?
    It's just this record?

The first question is has this just started to happen or have you just set it up and it's the first record you've tried?
Its more likely to be the turntable but it could be either and it's a lot easier to try another record than another turntable, play a couple of others and see if you get similar effects.

Not wishing to be insulting but that isn't a great example of a turntable so If it turns out to be a turntable issue I would look around at an upgrade, something vintage with a little bit of research shouldn't cost you a lot.

Unless you can confirm that there is an actual physical issue with that album, which I can't speak of personally, I wouldn't guess that's the cause of the problem. Obvious questions though... Have you tried different records you're familiar with? Do they sound normal? Have you tried this album on another turntable? Is the record damaged in any significant way (eg melted)?

My first thought is it's your motor or possibly a power issue. I would try plugging the table into an alternate power outlet somewhere in the house. You might have faulty wiring causing inconsistent power supply to the table which would immediately affect the operation of the motor. My next guess would be the motor itself is broken and in need of repair and/or replacement.

I will repeat myself again, I'm just asking if anyone has had good experiences or not, because if say 5 people say yes, the equipment functions and was good, I can be assured that hey, not all thrift store equipment is garbage. That it is a feasible place to find things.

But I will stop by Salvation Army today and take a look at the brands and stuff thanks.

Don't listen to these guys.  99% of all thrift store equipment is serviced by a team of highly trained elves with degrees in electrical engineering and audio design. However, because they're mythical beings, they don't require monetary compensation, which allows Goodwill and Salvation Army to keep prices on gear quite low.

Of course, this is all a fairly well-guarded secret and there's a good chance I'll be kicked out of the Super-Exclusive Thrift Store Audio Buyers Club for opening my mouth, but it's a risk that I'm willing to take.  Power to the people!

I swear there's no point in ever asking anything. It's a troll farm. All I am asking is if anyone has had good experiences with getting something from a thrift store in terms of equipment. Or if they have not. And in regards to buying new equipment, it's already a hypothetical question so there is no budget, I'm just asking what one would suggest.

If you don't have anything to contribute but Ray J gifs than thanks you're really helpful and I'm glad you took your time to assist in my needs.

And I did my homework, but I don't have the ability to go and test out every single preamp or speaker set-up which is why I'm asking VC.

That's so strange, it wasn't when I posted this earlier. Maybe someone saw this thread and poached the last copy haha.
Anyways, my unsolicited advice would be to keep your eyes peeled for a while; I glanced at eBay and the "buy it now" prices are exploitive at best
