  1. Nonsense! Sinking Bell is a great track, and the album destroys as a hole. But I love Sunn. And I love Boris' more drone/doom stuff, so this album is a perfect combination of the two acts, for me. But I like Ulver too. The album reminds me a bit of Bohren, actually. It's not nearly as heavy as some other Sunn albums, but that's a nice change of pace, actually. Altar is just more nostalgic to me, as that's the albums that really got me into both Sunn and Boris. I had listened to both bands before, but I wasn't hooked until hearing Altar. Then came Black One, White 1/2, Heavy Rocks, Flood, Amplifier Worship... oh man.
  2. Well, I got black. Lame, I know! But that's what my record shop had in stock, so I can't complain. Albums rules. Not sure if it tops the Boris collab, but it's still really good.
  3. So then, why is the thread dumb? Does this same thread pop up every other day or something? I said on my first post here that I was new, but asides from people saying "dumb thread," I don't understand what the issue is. Sorry for being new?
  4. I don't understand the hate, especially coming from a community that values buying multiple copies of the same album (variant collectors). Not saying anything against that, but I just think it's a bit hypocritical to be bashing this guy/thread because he likes collecting/preserving the original packaging. After all, isn't the physical aspect of vinyl one of the reasons we all enjoy vinyl? But again, back on topic, I saw a video a while ago of a guy going through some albums he bought, all were old LPs that still had the shrink wrap on them (opened on the sides). They were all still in perfect condition. Granted, none were gatefolds.
  5. Maybe I'm too new, but... this is trolling/dumb? He's asking whether you remove the plastic wrap or just open it to get records out and then leave it on. Right? If it's just shrink wrap, I get rid of it. I don't really care about stickers that just label the vinyl color or whatnot. But some albums come with a larger sleeve, which is what I store my records in anyway. Dopethrone comes like this, and the actual lettering is on the outer sleeve rather than the gatefold. So in that case, I like keeping the original packaging. But it already tore. So... w/e, I'll eventually get rid of it and replace it with one of my generic sleeves. Doesn't make much difference to me!
  6. The EyeHateGod thread was getting some attention, so I thought maybe there were some doom lovers here as well. I just saw it today; ordered a copy right away. Also, I'm in PA too, about an hour's drive from Philly.
  7. Amon Tobin's album, Chaos Theory (the soundtrack to Splinter Cell), was pressed on vinyl. (Not mine--I don't own this, but it's not a bad album)
  8. Available through Southern Lord or the bandcamp page. http://yobsl.bandcamp.com/releases http://southernlord.com/releases/view/the-great-cessation I'm a new Yob fan, so I'm stoked for this. I recently bought the reissue of Catharsis as well. Edit: This isn't a new album FYI (they're going to be releasing a new album soon, I believe), just a re-release.
  9. So, my replacements finally arrived today. Well, actually they just sent me new copies of each rather than only sending my sleeves. Which I was a bit confused about, but I guess that's cool. Yet, they still shipped them with the same poor packaging, and the sleeves still ended up creased and a slight tear on one of them. Not a big deal at all and I'm not complaining, just saying... I mean, I'm glad they sent me replacements. But they didn't resolve the issue, so I suppose I'm not going to order directly through them any more.
  10. Aren't they all the same? (1000 copies each except for black) If anything, I thought the white would be most elusive since it wasn't sold online. Though even that was 1000 copies (don't quote me on this; I'm just going by posts in this thread and the discogs website). I was actually going to stop at my record store today to pick this up. It was listed as in-stock yesterday. Today, it's not in stock. Bummer. I'll still go out because I want to pick up some other stuff, so I'll just have them order me a copy.
  11. Sweet. Have they released any tracks yet? I probably won't preorder, just cause I know my record shop will stock this.
  12. I listen to the a jazz station every night on my way to work. Granted, I enjoy the music for the drive, but most of it I wouldn't enjoy enough to warrant purchasing. My gripe with some jazz is the same gripe I have with some rock--I hate solos that (often times) seem out-of-place. I played in my school's jazz band, and I loved the songs that, to me, were actually songs rather than a bunch of solos supplemented by a few structured sections. Maybe I'm biased since I was part of the rhythm section, but most solos just end up being musical wankery to my ears. Anyway, I was recommended this site a while ago, and it seems to be pretty cool for checking out new tunes. Granted, I really haven't used it nearly as much as I'd like. http://www.jazzradio.com/ And these are the jazz albums I have: - Miles Davis: This is considered a classic album, and I enjoy it. Though, admittedly, I probably don't give it the same praise others do. And I'm a was a tad annoyed to open my copy and find that it didn't have the "classic" album cover, but ah well. - The Bad Plus: These guys are a great modern jazz trio (piano/bass/drums) that I really dig. I've played this album quite a lot, and I've been meaning to check out their more recent album(s?). Much of their previous work was cover songs, I believe. Now they mostly do originals. - The Neil Cowley Trio: This is another piano jazz trio, and they're fairly straight-forward yet quirky. A fun listen for sure. Some songs don't soar as high as others, at least for me, but still overall a good new jazz band that I enjoy. - Jaga Jazzist: These are they guys I'll recommend most for this forum, as I believe most people here are younger/my age (I'm 24). Jaga Jazzist is consider "nu-jazz," I guess, but they're great and actually one of my favorite bands. I only have their live albums, but it's actually one hell of a live album. Some of the songs are on youtube.
  13. Dammit; I waited too long. I just decided, "Screw it, I'll buy Mastodon + a 360 controller for my PC," but Leviathan is now sold out online. That sucks. Oh well. How often do they have sales like this?
  14. I know this post is a tad old, but I had to comment: I'd be pretty happy in this room, I imagine. Sleep, Bongripper, Mastodon, Sabbath... and lava lamps. Yes, this is good. I've already posted this picture elsewhere, but here's the current "storage" area. I'll remove the 3rd door once I need more space, but after that... not sure yet. I'll worry about it when it happens. Currently, all my CDs are shoved behind that door (above is the overflow), so I'll have to find a new home for them as well.
  15. I checked it out after seeing the sale in the Best Buy thread. I would have snatched up The Sword album as I've been wanting that one anyway, but it's sold out online. Nothin' else I really want. Leviathan for $10 ain't bad, and the new Sigur Ros album is up there for $17 (though I haven't listened to it yet). So maybe... but probably not, as there are some others albums that I have my eye currently. Anyone that doesn't have Jane Doe, I believe the one listed on Best Buy now ($13) is the recent limited run on translucent blue, and it comes with a really thick art book (I have this version). Axe To Fall is also there for $6... I have that as well, or I'd buy it. The new Electric Wizard is on sale too for $17, and it's a double LP purple/black split + purple/gray split. Great album too. Of course... I already have this as well.
  16. I'll have to ebay Sikth, but that's all I'm interested in..
  17. Based on a google search, it's going to be announced at 10am (I'm guessing Pacific Time). So, in about 2 hours 50 minutes.
  18. Anyone have good/bad experience with Ninja Tune? I ordered the re-releases of two Amon Tobin albums, both arrived damaged (there was no protective packaging whatsoever, just the records tossed in a non-snug box). However, one LP was clearly not damaged just from shipping. It wasn't sealed and there was a filament of dust/dirt covering the sleeve. There was a 4" hole in the top, and a 2" hole in the side. That filament of dirt was also on the record itself (from the holes) which tells me it was placed in the box to be shipped in this condition. I contacted them/sent pictures, and they said they'd send me replacements. That was over three weeks ago, which is a bit disheartening considering it only took 10 days to receive the shipment when I first bought it.
  19. I shit my pants when I saw the picture of SikTh on vinyl. Then I cried a bit since it's UK only. Ah well, I will get it, eventually. So far, that would've been the only album worth getting me to a store on the 19th. So now, I'm back to not going, which is probably for the better. I hate crowded areas. I like going to the record store right when they open and it's just me looking around, the owner, and usually one other employee (a chill guy I went to high school with).
  20. A few albums I picked up within the last few weeks. I also finally bit the bullet and bought a copy of Sleep's Dopesmoker for about $45 after shipping. More than I like to spend on albums, but ah well; should be worth it. Amon Tobin - Permutation (also picked up Bricolage--I'm waiting for new sleeves for both albums, as Bricolage in particular arrives VERY damaged) Godflesh - S/T Yob - Catharsis Suma - Let the Churches Burn Daughters - S/T
  21. Is the colored release the same weight? Sorry to bump this thread, but I'm just debating which release to buy. I like colored vinyl, but I like heavy vinyl more. Couldn't find weight info online, so figured I'd ask here...
  22. I don't know if I could wear that shirt with anything but the Godflesh logo (I have the poster hanging on my wall), but I'll still check these guys out as I've never heard them before.
  23. I work in a factory, and it's more profitable to run large orders than small orders. It's the difference between saying, "Walk 1 mile in a straight line," versus, "Walk 200ft that way, then rotate and go 50ft that way, then go 150ft that way, then go backwards 430ft..." Some of our machines take a few hours to over a full shift's time to change over. And I imagine vinyl "factories" don't all run 24/7 like we do. Granted, I don't know much about the vinyl production industry, so my experiences may be irrelevant.
  24. Not even close to a full "collection," so maybe I shouldn't even be posting here? I wouldn't really consider myself a collector; I just happen to like a lot of Converge and Jesu releases. I'd love to have all those Jesu releases on vinyl now, but I don't think I can justify to myself buying them all again.
