  1. I bought the DS Golden Sun game the other day for $11. The original GBA games were the first RPGs I've ever played (not counting Pokemon) and they're still some of my favorites today, possibly just because nostalgia. But for whatever reason I never snagged this game until now. Really digging it so far. I also caved and bought Pokemon White 2. I never played the original White/Black, but I could give two shits about a story in Pokemon games, so it shouldn't matter. I've played the hell out of Heartgold and Platinum, so I figured screw it... I'll buy yet another Pokemon game. I've been opting for the handheld games lately to get me away from my computer desk. More comfortable on the couch. Though I am tempted to get back into Inquisitor, or maybe Titan's Quest.
  2. In an electronic/nu-jazz mood this morning. After this album, I'm thinking Skalpel or maybe some early Bonobo, maybe sneak in a Bjork album.
  3. I finished reading In the Garden of Beasts the other day. Not the type of book I usually pick up, but not bad. And a bit insightful seeing as I knew little-to-nothing about Hitler-era Germany. I have a sample of High Fidelity right now. I started it, but I'm not sure I'm really feeling it for right now... I might just pick up Animal Farm again as I haven't read it since high school. And back then I didn't really enjoy reading, so I half-assed/didn't read it. Or, anyone have good "mob" book recommendations? I've read most of Mario Puzo's books, Wiseguy, Joe Bonanno's autobiography, and Takedown. I like the movie, Casino, so I might grab that book. Or on a completely different note, I've never watched Star Wars or Star Trek, but I think I'd actually be into that kinda stuff. Just, I don't like watching TV/movies. So, are any of the books worth reading, or maybe something similar?
  4. I guess I ought to jump on this. Bongripper titles on vinyl seem pretty hard to get after the fact. I've actually only listened to Hippie Killer and have it on CD, but I absolutely love it. Playing the new track, and I'm really digging it. Edit: Seriously? Already sold out? Or are people just putting all of them in their cart for shits and giggles... Edit: Yup, shits/giggles. Wine ordered.
  5. Huh. I'll have to check that out, then. I bought their debut when it came out and liked it, but it wore off on me and I lost interest in the band so I never got anything else from them.
  6. Boris is a bit too out there for me, sometimes. I got into them through their collaboration with Sunn, then got into Amplifier Worship and Heavy Rocks and Flood. I also bought Pink around when I was picking up their albums (all CD) but didn't initially like it. I just found the CD a few weeks ago and have been blasting it ever since; not sure why I didn't like it before. The screaming/shrieking/IDK vocals on the new track bother me. The rest isn't bad at all, definitely some cool sections.
  7. I don't know much about this band, and reading through the articles left me feeling slightly confused, but most feeling: IDGAF. It reminded me of how big celebrities essentially get entire articles printed for them each time they get a new haircut.
  8. My Truckfighters box set is #1. ...so is everyone else's.
  9. I could never financially justify buying two copies of the same album. I have three duplicates, but that's because they were free. I wouldn't sell them since they're damaged, so I figure one day maybe I'll give them to someone I meet who wants them.
  10. Dammit Southern Lord. Dammit. Dammit. Fine, you win. Take my money. All of it. Hex on black is in my cart. Thought about getting the white, but I have another album on white vinyl and I like plain black better I guess. I already have Bees... on CD, so I'm content with that. Now, do I add Pilgrimage and the APMD album I've been wanting for a while as well?
  11. I like Pokemon, but damn; they whore the shit out of themselves. Right from the get-go, they release two copies of the same game. (I bought Red after beating Blue because I thought it was a different game. Then I bought Yellow because I thought it was a different game.) Then for actual "new" games, they generally don't even try to be innovative. And they top it off by re-releasing these games ever few years. That said... I really want to play Ruby/Sapphire. I skipped out on that "generation" because I was at a point in my life where I thought I was too cool for Pokemon. But my brother had one of them on GBA, and I recall spending a bit of time with the game and enjoying it. I played Platinum and it was OK. So I actually haven't touched and of the later releases (excluding the silver/gold remake which I thought was AWESOME even though I still own Gold on the GBC). I really don't want a 3DS though.
  12. Maybe. I dig this, and I also really dig doom and post-rock. And I already liked Agalloch.
  13. Etrian Odyssey is so dope. I have the second one on DS, and I've been playing it for a few months now I believe. And I'm only on the 23 or 24 floor (I believe 30 total). I might go back and replay The Dark Spire when I'm done. Or I'll just get another Etrian Odyssey game.
  14. Portishead - Third 2xLP 45rpm ($15) Opeth - Watershed 2xLP RSD ($25) Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - Millions Live in Denver RSD ($17) Really, I just went there for the Portishead, but they had a bunch of leftover RSD stuff.
  15. Right now, I'd say it's about 50% "metal" and 25% "electronic." So being vague, that's what the majority of my music is. Actually, I guess I can be a bit more specific. I'll say: doom, hardcore, stoner rock, drone, trip-hop, and downtempo as the majority.
  16. Most I spent was $80, and that was for a two album box set ordered directly from a band in Sweden. The album itself was not overly expensive, but the shipping + currency change was. I probably wouldn't do this again; not for that price, anyway. As far as over-priced "rare" records, I don't see myself ever spending more than $100. Hell, I can't think of any album I'd spend more than $60 on right now. I can listen to pretty much everything I want online, and I don't even mean illegally. And if not, CDs are almost always cheap and readily available. Generally, if I can't find it for under $40, I'll wait. Too many other albums I want which are easily found for $15-20.
  17. I'm kinda debating this myself. Not that seriously, however, as I don't really care about having multiple copies... But I have two copies of a Bonobo album and two Amon Tobin albums (Ninja Tune really sucks at shipping). The Amon Tobin sleeves are actually really damaged (huge holes along all edges). So I asked for new sleeves, and Ninja Tune just sent new sealed records. Which was cool... but honestly, I just wanted the sleeves. IF I ever decide to get rid of them, I'd either sell the damaged ones for dirt cheap (possibly even for free, since I got the extra copies free myself anyway), or I'd trade in the good ones to my local record shop.
  18. I just did my RSD shopping today. I haven't been to my local shop since early April. I walked in today just planning to pick up an album, and the owner showed me three bins full of leftover RSD releases. A lot of good stuff, too--by that, I mean there was a lot of stuff that I've seen mentioned. Slipnot, that Linknin Park album, Soundgarden, Mastodon, LCD Soundsystem, Flaming Lips... to name a few off the top of my head. And the Opeth, which I snagged. I might go back for Karma to Burn.
  19. Damn! Really no love for Om here? Hey, I wasn't here when this thread was made, so don't blame me... Album grooves.
  20. True. But still... $70?! No really, you're right. It's not like I usually opt for deluxe editions anyway, unless they're just marginally more expensive than the regular edition. On a mostly irrelevant note, this thread reminded me of Black Cobra and I'm currently rocking out to their latest LP. If you like Leviathan, check out these two dudes... added bonus: their albums all cost <$20.
