  1. I wish I lived in Florida. Actually, no I don't. I just wish I could teleport there for this show.
  2. Not quite my point. If you refuse to buy a record for $45 from a record label, you [logically] would refuse to buy a record for $45 from a flipper as well. So what good is that record in a flippers hand if they can't sell it? $0. My point was that the only reason flippers and now even record labels can overcharge the shit out of albums is because people buy into hype (limited runs). But I won't bother saying anything more, because McPherson123 just owned me and I look stupid. I did not realize this record was being made outside the US. Yet it's still more than I'm willing to pay.
  3. Bah humbug! I probably would have purchased these LPs had they not been a "secret" (I can't get behind mystery releases), and had they be endorsed by Sharp. I mean, I shouldn't be speaking on his behalf, plus he did make his music open source after all... but I just personally am a bit off-put by it without him saying, "Buy this, I support them and am happy they did this."
  4. It'll never happen if everyone maintains the mentality of, "That will never happen." But yea, I was just sayin' is all.
  5. Actually, this is exactly why I'm complaining about the price. If nobody who actually wanted to listen to the album bought it, it would just get eaten up by people hoping to resell it for a profit. And if again nobody bought the album [from the flippers] it would drop in price. So in reality, supporting labels that are selling overpriced "limited" albums is actually indirectly supporting flippers. There wouldn't be flippers if record labels produced reasonably priced runs and repressed as needed to keep up with demand. I've seen people here complain about the "vinyl bubble," but this is the kinda stuff that keeps blowing the bubble up more and more.
  6. That's the way the record labels are looking at it. "How much are these vinyl junkies willing to pay for this album when it's incredibly hard to find? OK, we'll press a few thousand copies to make it easy to get, but charge the same amount, even though it costs us $7/copy to produce (number pulled out of my ass)." I mean, I see you're point, but I don't really agree. An original pressing that is very hard to find and hasn't been reissued? Yes, I might hesitantly drop $45 on it if it's an album I really want. But if there was a repress widely available for $20, I wouldn't even look at the original for that price. They're just taking advantage of the fact that this is a popular album in high demand, and pricing it accordingly. But anyway, I'm just butthurt, because this reminds me of the $70 Massive Attack Blue Lines repress, which I also refuse to buy. Even though I really really really really really want it.
  7. So why is this $45? Seriously, that's just blatantly overpriced IMO... Kinda like saying, "Hey, we know lots of people want this. Suckers!" It's not even a new album, just a repress. I don't want to pass. But I'll pass. I'd rather buy three $15 records. Hell, I wouldn't have even made that big a deal if it was $30, but $45 just feels like a slap in the face.
  8. I finally got sucked into Etrian Odyssey II on the DS. I bought it a while ago (after loving The Dark Spire) but would get so far and just put the game down only to try again a while later. I almost did that this time, but I persevered. Now I'm hooked. Made it to the 2nd stratum and almost have the 8th floor fully mapped out. The fact that one of guys on my team is actually a panda bear is pretty awesome too. I always name my RPG characters after bands too, mostly since I'm lame and can't think of cool names on my own. So my current team is: Godflesh, Gorod (I wanted to change him to Boris, but I don't want to waist the coin to do so), Jesu, Bjork, and... Russian (Russian Circles). I also had Yob and Sunn, but I swapped out those characters. I usually like using Bongripper, but that name was too long.
  9. Are there some notable/worthwhile jazz releases this year? I'm not familiar with very many jazz artists, so I probably skimmed passed names without even noticing.
  10. I like NPR. I didn't even know about "Science Friday." I'll download this and probably some other episodes to check out later. I love this kinda stuff for when I'm driving to/from work.
  11. I don't think I've even listened to that one; I'll check it out. I've heard their first two albums, but then I think I skipped to Viva Emptiness. I haven't heard their two newest albums yet either.
  12. It's recently been repressed. Or maybe it was never out of print? I swear that months ago I looked all over but couldn't find it. So I finally bit the bullet and bought a $40 copy. Two days later I saw the exact same copy/color on Southern Lord for $25. Three days later I saw the exact same copy/color at my record shop for $25. Mother f..... But it was still worth it. Nice grab though. EW should have a new album out soon, but if you see any of their old albums, snag 'em; they're all great.
  13. I know this post is a tad old... but yes. I actually like their newer style over their first few albums. My Yob - The Great Cessation reissue arrived yesterday, but I'm just getting to play it now. It's actually the first time I'm hearing about 70% of the album, and I'm really digging it so far.
  14. Dammit! I thought this was a new thread. Again. What ever happened with the preorder? All canceled?
  15. If you're interested in putting some time into your gear and adding a personal touch rather than just opening a box and plugging everything in, buying vintage stuff can be rewarding. Just like well-crafted, old instruments hold up well and are often sought-after, the same actually applies to some old audio gear. Do a bit of research on old gems, and with some luck/patience you may find some ridiculous deals on old "trash." Recap/refoam if needed, polish up the wood, make a new mesh/screen... really, if you're interested in building speakers, simply refurbishing some old, quality ones is probably the best way to start. I have a pair of '70s Dynacos that sound fantastic, and I haven't even touched them yet. And you'll likely end up paying far less than $500-700, which means more money for vinyl.
  16. Wouldn't be too hard to make a grill/screen for them, I'd imagine. I've been meaning to do that for my 70's speakers. Unless that's not the look you're going for. But if you just measure and put together a simple wood frame, you can use pretty much any material you want. If it's not a snug fit, just add a touch of velcro to keep it in place.
  17. People who aren't sure what they're record store is going to get... just ask them. My record shop emailed us a list of albums they weren't planning on ordering + albums they were only planning to order a single copy of. That way we could let them know of anything from that list that we want and they could order more if needed. By this time, they might not still be able to order stuff, but they should at least be able to tell you what they're getting.
  18. At first I thought, "Why did he write Subsume 1/2/4 rather than the actual song names?" Then I remembered that the track names on Subsume are sentences. But that looks like a sweet set. Although track 3 off Subsume is actually my favorite.
  19. So I decided to replace the cheap, foggy plastic bags/sleeves for these two records and replace them with the heavier, clearer bags I like using. And I decided to spend two minutes to remove the original stickers and then replace them using a bit of double-sided tape. But in case this leads to derogatory comments, I'll just get it out of the way first: I don't care about the music (obviously). I didn't just do this because I think it looks neat while also protecting records I want to keep and listen to for a long time, nor did I do it because it makes the albums more personal to me. No, I did this to increase their values for resale.
  20. How do people do transactions here? Just paypal gifts, or something? I'd really love getting sikTh's Death of a Dead Day, but it's not coming to the United States (at least not for RSD). If someone is willing to pick it up and ship it, I'd be very grateful. One of my favorite bands, and I never dreamed the album would ever be released on vinyl. I don't mind throwing in a bit extra beyond costs as gratitude.
  21. I think I unconsciously cringe or somehow disfigure my face when someone calls me "bro," because it's happened to me by three different people. Those three people never called me "bro" ever again.
  22. PC nerds here? I always come back to Minecraft. But I've also been playing the Blackguards game, which I really dig. Maybe one day the PC will get a Disgaea game (lol no we won't), but until then I can dig this.
  23. Yea, guys from Intronaut are going to play as Cloudkicker's band. I'm debating going; it's an hour drive and I have no friends (well, none that like good music). But I love Cloudkicker and Intronaut, and a chance to see Cloudkicker live is awesome. I'm not too into Tesseract, but looks like they're the headliner, so it'd be easy to just scoot if I'm not feelin' them. Anyone here going to be at the Philly show?
  24. I can't be arsed to read the entire thread, but seems like a lot of people prefer ATF? You Fail Me has been my favorite album. Dat title track... and the rest of the album. It's what first got me hooked on Converge. I actually didn't get into Jane Doe until a few years after first listening to Converge; the album took a while to grow on me for some reason. I'd vote: You Fail Me > All We Love We Leave Behind > Jane Doe > No Heroes > When Forever Comes Crashing > Axe to Fall > Petitioning the Empty Sky But they're all fucking good.
  25. People that don't like the vocals: Do you not like Ulver? I love the vocals on this collab, but I also really like Shadows of the Sun (I've never listened to any other Ulver albums, so I don't know if his vocal style is different on them).
