I do have to say I actually really enjoyed the new Salem's Pot record though. It's very much a psych record, but it's still solid. (Though again, the artwork...yuck.)
I agree with everything said here though. At least it's given me some time to pick up some other stuff that I've been holding off on for a while.
Since you endorsed it I'll have to check out that new Salem's Pot record now. The album artwork made my dick softer than baby food.

Actually if you email them within 10 minutes of pre-orders going live they usually sell whatever clear variants they have left on a first come first serve basis and they don't last very long. They just send you an invoice through Paypal.

I almost feel guilty but I just have not been that excited about the STB releases recently. The vocals on Witchskull are hard to take. Prices do seem higher too.
Why would you feel guilty? Even the artwork on most their recent releases is laughable. It's the same thing with Riding Easy. It's like they receive a modicum of success and then get lazy. I'd much rather see 2 quality releases a year from a label than 12 mediocre ones. It's not like there isn't enough of these types of bands already that every single one needs to be signed & put out a record. Music isn't the Special Olympics. Every band doesn't need to be treated like a winner.

I saw Korn open for Pennywise back when I was 17 in '93. They were the heaviest thing I had heard live at that point. I bought their demo tape as they were getting booed off stage. I think The Offspring played 2nd & Cadillac Tramps played 3rd that night.
A few months later I saw them in a shitty warehouse in some industrial complex open for Sick Of It All. Despite them getting heckled while getting ready to play, every hardcore kid there started murdering each other once they started playing.
While they may be a joke or a meme or whatever now, back then, they were pretty heavy & IMO were one of the first bands to bring breakdowns into mainstream music.

I gotta say I'm a pretty big fan of the artwork for the Inside Out 7"s:
(Not sure how I missed the Riley one)

Is there a way to make the reading of this thread mandatory prior to new users starting their first thread?

I've paid $100+ for Mark Kozelek vinyl in the past, but I can't bring myself to buy the Jesu / Sun Kil Moon album. I find it unlistenable.
I can't listen to this album or Loutallica without cringing the entire time.

I see... thanks for clarifying.
I imagine their music as fitting for a Cormac McCarthy western rather than some fantasy game... not that it matters.
Although they posted something indicating the new album was in some way related to the book 'We' which is 1920's sci-fi so maybe it is for LARPers! haha
The violins remind me of early My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, etc. You know, goths that go to renaissance fairs. This is the music they make babies too.

Well that hurt. Thanks.

Time to create a "How to value records" sticky?
1) Wade through Discogs entries based on info on jacket and dead wax.
2) At least double what your local store would give you
3) Check sold listings on eBay, assuming you know enough about your version
4) See if it tastes like chocolate
5) Go elsewhere.
There should also be a cat gif between each answer.

I thought I'd try to help. This Tomahawk Pee Wee I'm working on is coming along nicely so I'm in a good mood.

There are 466 different entries for Sgt. Pepper's. Find your picture disc here & figure it out: https://www.discogs.com/master/view/23934
Do the same for the other.

I'm pretty sure it's just my imagination. This is def simliar but I stopped listening to Mogwai when Rock Action came out so it would be that album or before it. I probably just smoked too much weed while listening to both these bands when I was younger so it all kinda blends together.

I actually don't hate this band and it seems like they don't have vinyl, so I don't feel tempted to spend a bunch of money on it!:
Other than their cliched name, they're pretty good. Vocalist reminds me of Dave Wyndorf a bit which is a good thing IMO. I love that man.
And now it's time for the new Swans record...

It's weird. Most my hardcore records before the early 90s have no problems but everything after that seems to be full of breakdowns. Especially my Earth Crisis & Hatebreed records. Color of the record doesn't seem to matter much/if at all.

Agreed. There was a long time where I was constantly finding new bands I enjoyed, but yeah, everything either sounds the same, or awful lately.
4 hours ago, lexicondevil said:I also agree. I have had to think a little harder about whether I need a new stoner/doom release. A lot of what is coming out is hack/boring stuff.
Yeah. 4 out of 5 new bands in this genre I check out immediately make me think "this is really unnecessary" and/or just make me want to listen to previous bands who did exactly what they're doing but better.

OK, I gotta admit I totally want to hear whatever this guy is producing. I demand a sample of your sampling!

This is one of those things that's going to bug me until I know, too, because I hear exactly what you're talking about.
Totally right?
Your post & the other one by Batman remind me of it but not exactly like I was thinking. It could just be that the MGs song is just super similar to something they would play though & that's where I'm getting it from. Either way, thanks for letting me know I'm not imagining things!

Gotta be honest. As much as I love Steve and STB Records...I've been really bummed with the releases lately. I haven't bought anything since....What, Ancient Warlocks II? I may be the only one. I dig Witchskull a little bit, but I don't know if I'm into it enough to actually grab one.
I think the scene is a bit oversaturated in general. A lot of it is starting to sound the same.

I didn't think it allowed videos to be embedded like that but it's the slide guitar or whatever that is that changes to a mellotron after the first few bars:
It repeats at 2:00 but played in a different style.

I'm super into 60s & 70s instrumental albums. So I'm cruising my way through the Booker T & the MGs discography again & I hear the song I'm going to post below. Part of it sounds exactly like either a Mogwai or a Godspeed song but I can't put my finger on what album or song. The melody repeats in this song but the best example is at the 2:00 mark. Maybe it's just a common melody used by multiple bands but it's driving me crazy because I've heard this song several times now & think the same thing every time I hear it. I figured asking wouldn't hurt so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I'm a producer looking for something to sample. If there's any artists or groups out there similar to Sufjan Stevens or Khyber Mail, let me know. Thanks.
You're the world's laziest producer.

I've been in the market for a tone arm shaped like a penis for years now. I really hope that's what this is about.
