its the same way with every team, or most, or some... if the a's didn't have sheets or chavez their salary would've been 30 million instead of 50 million. i'm sure a lot of teams had people hurt or not playing in the playoffs. Of for sure. Zito is just a $120million hole. It amazes me (in a good way) that they've managed to farm and maintain such a stellar pitching line up when the person they brought in to be their "ace" has been (and will continue to be) such a disappointment.

I heard they also kicked puppies. The only thing that you're even talking about that truly sucks is that if they didn't have Zito or Rowand (two essential non-entities) their salary would have been $32million less. Of course, I'm sure you'd find something else wrong at that point. Oh well. Not like I make any money off of them winning, or by people having a positive opinion of them.

The payroll bit doesn't really make sense. After the top 1 to 6 the averages really close up in the middle. The top team (Yankees) is paying out over $110 million more than the Giants (#10), while the number 20 team is only $24 million or so below the giants. I'm not saying they don't still have a higher salary than most teams but once you get out of the top few the differences begin to lessen. I'm happy the Giants finally one. As a long time Bay Area resident (well, my whole life but I've only been into baseball for the last 9 or so years, just before the season we lost to the Angels) I'm happy to see it happen. I'm not going to put up some narrative about how they're a bunch of scrappy kids. They're pro athletes for gods sake. But I do feel they're a team with personality and characters. I'd rather watch Brian Wilson do an interview than anybody on the Yankees. They fit San Francisco perfectly and that's what makes it so cool that they won. And, I openly admit I never thought they'd do better than wild card and (maybe) lose in 5 games.

I brought this up to Avi at Springman a while back and he said the same thing. Basically it's just not something there's a demand for. They have a handful of loyal fans but they don't tour and weren't as big as say a NOFX or something, so there's not a ton of avid collectors. I'd be excited for this but I don't see it selling more than 100 copies.

People say your one vote doesn't matter and yet on years when voter turn out is low the winners are always the more conservative groups, because their base always votes.

This nearly made me kill people. I was waiting outside the Atlantic to see Hour of the Wolf and there was a huge line for OWTH (who everyone figured out were playing) and I missed HOTW. I made it in to see OWTH (though I really just wanted to stay for Punch, who were awesome) only to see the place was like 3/4 full (if that). The Atlantic was frustrating me all weekend.

True story, no one has ever had any arguments over sports in Oakland. Besides we all know the best baseball team is the Expos.
