Introduce Yourself!
thedavidescapeplan replied to lonesomexloveus's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
right now, i am wondering why i haven't joined this group yet. first thing to do when i get home from work today? i think so. Duh you do! I'm eventually going to make shirts that just say "DA>JC" so you have that to look forward to. Also, my band the Burbs are making shirts that are affectionately called the "skull and cross Dave"...I am just that awesome. -
Introduce Yourself!

Real name: David (that is probably obvious) Favorite Bands: There are a ton, but I have tattoos of the following: Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, Avail, and The Lawrence Arms. I like a ton of other stuff that ranges from 90's screamo to hip-hop, so take that for what you will. What's your Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr etc.?: www.facebook.com/milkisdelicious There's also a facebook group devoted to me being bigger than Jesus... Hobbies (outside of record collecting): playing music, biking, jogging, reading, writing for a website that is supposed to launch in the near future. Play in a band? Run a record label? Link us!: I play in way too many. The Burbs: www.myspace.com/burbsrock www.facebook.com/burbsrock The New Brunette: www.myspace.com/thenewbrunette Cross Ice Pass To The Seventh Level Of Hell (Hockey themed thrash metal) I don't remember our facebook url... A fourth band that a buddy and I are trying to get off the ground and a fifth band that is kind of new wave-ish. I play guitar, drums, harmonica and do some singing an lyric writing. Random things you want us to know about you: I don't consider myself straight edge any longer as I am not a fan of the label, but I don't drink, smoke or do drugs so take that for what you will. I love coffee more than any sane person should. Last year I set a world record at Pitchfork's music festival in Chicago and it was broken a day later. I go to school at Columbia College Chicago and am perhaps the only person there that does not appreciate Animal Collective. Want to know anything else? Just ask. -

I'm interested in the Ink and Dagger and Bridge and Tunnel test but probably couldn't afford them. -
I don't know if I'll ever stop avidly searching out new music, but it definitely depends more on the time issue that many have already addressed. I work, I go to school and I play in four bands. My time is already very limited but music is and always has been my passion. I don't see that ever stopping, in part because I'm a musician and I am constantly searching for new things that move me and challenge me in that arena. Luckily I was "listening" to a music at a young age. I was given a jump start by mom and my uncles. They turned me on to stuff like The Clash, The Ramones, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, etc when I wasn't even a teenager. I've been able to amass a pretty large catalog of old stuff I like and now I can just kind of search out new things in the same vein as things I already love. This is tough considering I would say I have a diverse palate. I like everything from hip-hop to thrash metal so I try and keep my ear to the ground, read reviews and listen to recommendations of friends. I don't know if that really answers your question, but it is my perspective nonetheless.

Chicago peeps...

I can understand where you're coming from, dude. I was only there once when it was doing shows back in the day and it definitely left a mark on me. I've not been back in there since, but I am truly honored to be able to say I am getting to play there. Regardless of the changes, it is still the Fireside. It's definitely not the same as it used to be, but it's something I never even thought would be a possibility. To be asked to be one of the bands to play this new incarnation means the world to me knowing - and honoring - what came before me. -

AT THE DRIVE IN "vaja" 10" blue vinyl
thedavidescapeplan replied to vardcore's topic in Sale/Trade/Wants
If you have either In/Casino/Out or Relationship of Command and would want to part with them I'd be interested. -
The thing is that No Pocky and On the Mouth are the first two Superchunk records I heard. It's what made me fall in love with them, so I really want those lps. It just sucks because I want to support the band/Merge but I don't want to feel ripped off either. I'm hoping that some may start turning up used in the near future or if I could snag them all from a place like Insound and use a discount coupon. They really need to play Chicago again. They killed it at the Randolph street fest and I'd love to see them in a club.

grown ups chicago show tonight
thedavidescapeplan replied to j4m35's topic in Everything Else Message Board
i pretty much have to drive there from my place, it sucks. luckily my girl lives in pilsen so i won't have to drive a long way home! It's not a horrible drive for me, but I hate leaving my car in that area for a huge chunk of time. And considering most of the shows there never seem to run on any discernible schedule I wouldn't want to be trekking home at three in the morning. -
