  1. Nope, that was my first time. Only just discovered these guys like 8 months ago maybe, if that. I was on the right side of that big post, almost up against the stack of gear. There was a dude on the left, shorter, with shorter hair, who was totally rocking hard way hard, but I don't recall what kind of shirt he had on.
  2. I mean I was singing Untitled V with the "made out of nothing" refrain.... are you talking about me? I was right in front of Mike, the singer. I was the only dude with long hair, you had to have seen me haha
  3. I was there too! I actually cried a little during Nothing In the Guise of Something. Amazing. I was the dude with the long hair and Morbid Angel shirt on..... What were you wearing?
  4. Oh man I can't wait until Something Wicked This Way Comes. That album is one of my favorite things.
  5. anybody going to Boston tonight? Was going to make the drive solo from Albany, now I'm kind of on the fence, even though I bought a ticket. So tired of making all these long drives for concerts by myself. Blah.
  6. It was the high end. The treble was so painful, every time they went into a climax is was piercing and just too loud, or the engineer just didn't know how to mix 3 guitars properly. It was weird. I was up front for the opener, and they sounded fine... but the bass was wayyy too intense up there so I moved back for Caspian. Perhaps if I went back up against the stage it would have been better, but I was on the left side of the stage (facing it) for most of Caspian, and any time they went to any high register part, the treble would just pierce into your skull. And not in a pleasant way. Very grating. The drums were super low too which was kind of a bummer. Just an overall disappointment. I'll bring earplugs next time, for sure, as well.
  7. Prepare yourself. Also, make sure you check out the album "Saudade" by the band I/O. A lot like Caspian and Sleepmakeswaves.
  8. Spinning my copy right now! This sounds awesome. This material is incredible, too. I can't wait to see them play all of this stuff on Sunday. The 2nd half of the record is my favorite... from Untitled V onward. Those last 4 songs are just.... tremendous. Dude. Not cool. Get on that, RIGHT NOW. "Low Tide" is more than transcendental.
  9. Dude. You NEED to get on with familiarizing yourself with Isis' catalog. Just start at the beginning, and work forward, so you can experience the change. I'm glad I was exposed to them early on, in the Celestial era (right when Napster was getting big!) The sludgiest, heaviest stuff EVER. Start with the Mosquito Control EP. "Hive Destruction" and "Life Under The Swatter", man. The bridge groove in this song is SO infectious. and then they became something that could give birth to this beautiful thing:
  10. Already have every Caspian album on vinyl, except The Four Trees. See, I'm not into collecting. As long as I can have a single copy of an album, I'm good. I just want to listen. I also bought a first-press If These Trees Could Talk "Red Forest" in red (I think its first press.... prettttty sure) for $75 right before they announced the repress haha. D'oh! I'm not really into caring about which pressing I have, unless it's pertinent to the sonic fidelity. Only then do I care. But like, in the last week.... my purchases: Rosetta - Wake/Lift $40 Rosetta - A Determinism of Morality $45 Oceansize - Effloresce $95 Junius - Junius $15 Junius - Days of the Fallen Sun $15 Junius/Rosetta split $20 fuck me....
  11. Personally, I don't know how you can listen to stuff like the bass breakdown in Procellous and NOT lose your fucking shit, or the Quovis -> Further Up -> Further In segment and not go fucking nuts. I would have lost my absolute shit if I was there. I saw them in Rhode Island and the sound was terrible, so that really prevented me from being able to get into the music, which was kind of a bummer. I drove 3 hours hoping I would have a cathartic experience. I did not, at that show. It was great music, but the sound was so bad that is interfered with my ability to let go and get lost in them.
  12. Hmmmm..... hopefully mine gets here tomorrow. I live just outside of Albany, NY. Nothing today. Did get my navy swirl copy of Wake/Lift yesterday though!!!! Can't wait to spin that. Maybe tomorrow afternoon...
  13. I mean, dude.... Magna Carta.... Harmonia.... wowwwwwwww
  14. You are a lucky man to have that. I will certainly buy it soon. I kind of hate that I keep discovering more bands that I love whose albums I need to own on vinyl. This is getting expensive.
  15. Listening to "Sines" by Jakob now....... Dude. I can't even this music. Wow.
  16. So it really is just about rarity, then. It's interesting what some people are into... haha. I honestly thought it was something like where the label got these as "listening" copies to make sure the pressing was fine to do their full run on. I'm here because I love music on vinyl. Rarity means absolutely fuck-all to me. And to be honest, I'm actually kind of against it. It's offensive to me that sometimes wondrous, amazing music is limited and withheld from being widely available on a certain medium. For instance, records like Cult of Luna - Salvation, Oceansize - Effloresce, the first few Rosetta albums.... etc. If you're doing special variants.... sure. The rarity thing is fine. But general pressings of amazing music shouldn't be limited. But I understand that these albums are put out by hobby labels who aren't making tons of cash... so, perhaps it's simply the resulting consequence of the parameters of the situation.
  17. Awesome, I think I'll pick up both then. The one I'm going to get is just translucent red. No swirls or anything, unfortunately. I guess I was mistaken that the EP was also done on vinyl when it first came out.... hmmm.
  18. $100 for Effloresce by Oceansize is my new top.... Really wish this record was pressed more than once. It's so astonishing. I don't understand why labels do such limited runs of albums like this. Its been out of print for over a decade now.
  19. So, I have a question about this stuff. What actually MAKES a record have lots of noise? Specifically, this is about my copy of Rosetta's "Flies To Flame" which I know I've been bringing up. Really, my issue is the white noise that lies underneath the music. The record is also mastered at a very low volume, so I'm sure some of that incidental noise is from me having to turn my receiver's volume up louder. But this isn't the case with all of my records. Some of them are dead silent, and all you hear is that weird hollow noise of the needle spinning through an empty groove before the music hits. The Rosetta album, though, has like... I guess "white noise" would be the best descriptor. Just static-y noise behind everything. Is that from dust on the master plates when the stampers were pressed? Or not being cleaned at the pressing plant? Also, why would a record be mastered at a low volume?
  20. So, what exactly is the allure of test presses? Is it like a completist mentality thing? Like you're getting the thing that the band and label listened to in order to okay the release? Not judging, just trying to understand. I know so many of you here are into them.
  21. Oh yeah? Nice, yeah that's the one I think I'm going to pick up. What variant do you have?
  22. Hey guys, so I need your expert opinions here. I'm looking to pick up this EP, and there are 3 different methods: the original release, the remastered release, and the compilation of FOTS and Blood is Bright. Do you guys have any word on which pressing sounds the best? I can get the red compilation press at a good price, but wasn't sure if either of the stand-alone EP versions have a better fidelity to them. Thanks guys!
  23. I might take your Red Sparowes and Tides From Nebulah.... let me see how my finances pan out this week. Got a few other things in the fire.
  24. Sorry if this was already posted, but I pulled this from gates' Facebook. Pure Noise Records has a bunch of test presses up for bid on Ebay, with the proceeds going to the Oakland Children's Hospital. http://www.ebay.com/sch/purenoiserecords/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
