Bruit records are finally shipping from A Thousand Arms. So excited to take a bunch of mushrooms and spin it. One of my favorite records to come out in recent years.

their live set at Dunk was truly tremendous.  You think they're good on record.... mannnnnn you don't even know haha.  It was something else.

I think Hundred Year Old Man just released one of the best post-metal albums in years "Sleep In Light".

Dark, beautiful and crushing 80min journey. FFO: Cult Of Luna, Oceanic-era Isis. Colored vinyl at Consouling store or Bandcamp.

For me this came out of nowhere. I think I had never heard of this band before.

    uhhhhhhhhh that's a bold statement.  i'm curious...

  2. Man.  You guys need to go to Dunk!.  Like, holy crap.

Bruit....  Hubris... Year of No Light... Of the Vine... OUTLANDER!!!!!!!!

I can't stress how good Outlander was.  If you think they are great on record, they absolutely utterly DESTROY on stage.  Their setlist was Threadbare, Return, Sinking, Sundowning.  3 Valium tracks ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Like, fuck dude.  It's so doable too!  It's in Ghent now, so you just fly into Brussels, take ONE TRAIN, and then you're there.  You get off at Gent - St. Pieters station, and take the tram for 10 mins into the center of the city, and you are 5 mins walking from everything.  It's so ridiculously easy.  I am not rich, and I don't make a ton of money, and we were able to do it again this year.  You guys can do this.  You need to.

please come see the magic once before you die :D :D

That’s how you know you need to discover Discogs.

Oh i'm well into Discogs but I'm very bad at keeping track of everything I have.  I keep telling myself that someday I'll go through my stuff one by one and add it, but that day never comes haha.  Too busy with the band.  never any free weekends.

  4. i never knew about these records so I'm so psyched to be able to get them.  Such a vast, vast different sound than the Maserati that I know and love.  I can see all your points about the sound change, they're definitely more dance heavy now but i love that stuff too so I'm cool.  I imagine its like the people who got turned off by Isis who hopped on during Mosquito Control or Celestial and couldn't swallow the clean direction after Panopticon.

I caught that too. I believe it said "lightly remastered" so I'm guessing that means they attempted to refrain from deviating too far from the engineering notes/perceived qualities on the initial pressing's mastering parameters.

I have an original of this and recently scored an original Effloresce. I don't recall anything particularly wrong with the mastering on my copy of EIP but its been a while since I've listened to it. Its a great album and checks pretty much all of my boxes for the type of music that it is but as an album, maybe its the sequencing, but I find it a bit less of a satisfying listen than Effloresce which for all of its greatness, isn't all that much different of an album compared to EIP. It feels overall a bit less busy than EIP but "busy" isn't necessarily a bad thing as I'm a pretty big TMV fan and it doesn't get much busier than that while still maintaining coherence. I guess Dillinger Escape Plan can come off much busier than either TMV or Oceansize at certain times. I also dig them but admittedly haven't spun anything by them in some time. Still, I know I have great fondness for EIP but I don't find myself going back to it that much. I played it excessively around early to mid-2008. Maybe I got my fill on replays but I still insist its part of "my music." I like Frames a lot but there is some sluggishness happening around the middle of that album that make it tough to get back into. I was super into it when it first released though. Now that I think about it both Frames and EIP were integral soundtracks to some very difficult and dark times of my life so maybe that accounts for why they are so difficult to revisit. Its only dawning on me right now that that could be the reason.

    Anyway, Oceansize, man. Great band.

I'm with you on EIP being too busy sometimes.  I enjoy it, but I enjoy Effloresce and Frames much, much, much more.  There's more of a balance of calm to chaos on those, I guess.  EIP is a lot of chaos.

I have originals of all full lengths, and I have the remaster of Effloresce too.  They're both good.  I would say that the remaster is a bit of an improvement, it just sounds sturdier.  The original is still enjoyable, but it's like you just went from a 320mp3 to a wav.  The 320 was definitely enjoyable, but the wav is just a bit better.

On another note, does anybody know why Mike says this:  "The creatively lauded and commercially maligned sophomore album by Oceansize has, unbelievably, earned its self a reissue!"

If there's one aspect of this hobby that has become increasingly apparent to me as the years have gone on, it's that Discogs reviews are dog shit.

i don't share this experience, I've had a few reviews help me to outstanding copies of certain albums.  For instance, the Discogs reviews helped me track down the RTI pressing of Slowdive - S/T and man, that thing sounds gooooooood.  the naysayers will always be louder than the supporters though, so i try to make a point to make a comment when a pressing is good.

  7. been spinning them in my car all week.  Aurora is a fucking titan.  Holy cow this album.  Hush is good too, but it's different.  The title makes a lot of sense, it's a lot more subdued than Aurora is, which is cool, but I'm not sure I want not-rocking from Slow Crush to be their main delivery style.  Gonna keep giving it time because it's obviously not bad, I just really like the in-your-face energy of Aurora.

  8. Finally got my clear/gold cleaned and it's still noisy as shit and scratched to hell, AND it has a chunk missing from the edge lol.  This is hilariously bad.  I can cut my sandwiches with how sharp the edges are to this, and I could dig a hole with the area missing the chunk!

The remaster does suit some songs, but I picked up a couple copies of the lauded Trust No One pressing from Sweden, and yeah... that's the fucking sound right there.  That's Oceanic.

When are we getting new Au Revoir?  That’s the only Shy Low connection I care about lol.  They’ve been one of the highlights of both the US Dunk & Post Fests I’ve attended.  I feel like they’ve teased for years now but nothing ever comes of it.

Anyways, speaking of Post Fest, an announcement is being made March 24.  Excited af.

Don't hold your breath.  I share your sentiment, but I wouldn't expect anything.  Maybe someday.  None of the band members live in the same cities or states haha.  Especially with Shy, Low already cranking out the follow-up to Snake.

Trying to decide between Shy,low and the Dunk! I hear sirens pressings…

Dude you buy both!!!  Unless you're meaning the "Stella Mori" represses, but even then... get both!  I'm so happy they finally pressed the first full-length.  I love old I Hear Sirens.

  10. Seems important:  10th anniversary of the debut Shy, Low album.  Finally available on vinyl, 180g black from Post. Recordings.  Comes with a few remixes, one of them courtesy of Holy Fawn.  They only did 200 copies, so I'd move quickly, what with the volume that Pelagic moved of the new one.

I love this album and still go back to it to this day.

  11. It finally happened!  Pre-order Shy, Low's s/t album featuring 3 remixes (Digital only) and pressed to vinyl for the first time!  This will be limited to 200 records on 180g Black Vinyl.  Expected ship date will be May 2022.

Move quickly, this will sell out.  You should also pick up Driving Slow Motion, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster, and Hubris.  Only a few copies of all those remain, so act fast.  They're awesome pressings too, I have them all.  TNBD is one of the best sounding releases i have, it's fantastic.

They can’t even make a good quality tape deck anymore.

Man that's a whole other story i need to get into haha.  I have so many tapes that need to be played, and I don't know what to get.  Obviously old Nakamichi's but the dragons are fuck-ass expensive and everyone on the Hoffman forums says Ebay is full of scammers, so i don't even know what to do haha.

  13. i need to give a shoutout to Maybeshewill and The Robot Needs Home Collective label.

I ordered 5 copies of the remastered "I Was Here For a Moment..." vinyl for myself and friends.  First package shipped via Fedex disappeared.  A second package sent via Fedex.... disappeared.  Tracking shows they never even left the airport, so it seems someone is stealing.

Now, we're on our 3rd shipment that was broken into 2 parcels to be sent via USPS.  They've been super responsive and helpful through all this, via their shipping broker SHHHIP LTD or whatever they're called.

Fedex can suck a tailpipe and die in a fire.  Fuck them.

Also, with warping becoming more and more common because of hurried productions, 180g/200g records should be more common to cut down on warping. I know people get bent out of shape because its a gimmick, but I've been in this hobby for the past 25 years and (anecdotally) I've only had 3-4 very minor warps in the first 23 years but I've had twice as many major warps in the past two. They need to do whatever they can to mitigate this issue.

just about every other record i get these days is complete dogshit.  No QC, just pumping out poorly pressed garbage with tons of pressing erros.  Lately it's scratches in one channel, presumably from a rushed press that didn't mold to the plate completely.  It's stupid.

why is it so hard to make things good?
