The new EF record is a total blast from the past. So good. Reminds me of Yndi Halda from the glory days. Anyone else hear it?

so glad this band is back from the dead.  They have another new song they didn't record that they played at Dunk! a few years back.  Hopefully that surfaces in some capacity, but Niklas said it wasn't as good as the new stuff so they didn't record it.

I'm gonna try my best to wait until the vinyl arrives to listen haha

What are you asking about the YT remaster, Gumbo?  It’s impossible to predict how the new one will sound.  All we know is that the original 1997 recording engineer (Paul Savage) is handling it.  Are you asking if you should grab this new reissue or spring for an OG press?

Yeah i figured you guys would know more about what variants/remasters/anything are the best-sounding/best-pressed.  I don't know anything about the lineage of that album, and haven't had time to dig into it since discovering i like this album haha.

CODY is interesting....  its kind of like one long song for me.  And it hasn't totally grabbed me, but that is the way I was with Mono, EF, and Envy.  I didn't get them at first, but something made me keep coming back, and then eventually I was like "oh!"

If I know Gumbo like I think I know Gumbo, he’s still gonna’ have a soft spot for tremolo-core and favor it to the breadth of sounds that Mogwai covers.

In all fairness I sort of get why someone may want to keep a band like Mogwai in their back pocket.  They have such a lengthy discography and are held in high regard among most post-rock circles… it’s like having a reserve of good music on tap.

Yeah, I mean i think this is pretty much it.  I'm saving something to chase.  Same with GIAA - I kind of purposefully hold of on listening to them, because I know they have a deep discography, so i want to save an adventure for down the line.

I'm finding myself on the down-swing with post-rock recently, going back to the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd more and more.  Which is how I am - I'm cyclical.  My dr's tell me its part of having ADD - we go ALLLLLL THE FUCK INNNNN and touch EVERYTHING and see ALL OF IT and then move on.  And like... it's a feeling, inside of me.  I'll never be able to explain it so that you guys can understand, but it just creates this "!!!!!" thing inside of me, this fire...  this drive to uncover ALL the mysteries.  Figure it ALL out.  And then when I do, it's time for something else.

Thrill of the chase I guess?  I'm not really sure.  I just know this is how I am haha.

As far as the decline of my post-rock listening, i think it's because there's not much new coming out that's been grabbing me hard.  I'm excited for the new EF though, and the new Glaston album.  Anything Envy and Mono release will of course be an insta-buy, but a lot of the bands I love have kind of petered out, like Spurv or ITTCT so the momentum just kind of falls away.  I think that coupled with my finishing of all the big chases (I have every variant of Solace, I have all the old Mono early CDs like Hey You and the Session 02 release, I have my Trust No One Oceanic's, etc etc) just turned the flame down.  I don't expect anyone else to understand, but it's just like treasure hunting I suppose.  And it's fun for me.

I want to have some more treasure to find later with Mogwai, like what's happening here.  I think you guys think I love every post-rock thing that comes out haha and that's absolutely not true.  There's a lot of derivative stuff on Youtube that never gets pressed, and sure it's all okay and fine, but I don't even think like that.  What I read above is a lot of critical-minded assessments of music, and i don't even care about that.  If it doesn't grab me, I just move on - i don't sit around and make fun of it, which is what it feels like some of you guys may do here.  That just isn't fulfilling for me, I'm just looking ahead to the next chase that's going to make me feel the exclamation points inside.

ha anyway TL;DR sorry!  Sitting home here sick with whatever bug is going around, so you guys get my thoughts :P

  3. I was today years old when I listened to Young Team for the first time.  This is fantastic.

I have CODY on cd and it's fine but I can see that album *crushing* on a home vinyl setup.

Edit - i'm listening to the 1997 Disc 1 video on Youtube and it sounds wonderful through our home TV stereo setup.  Can anyone fill me in on any remaster or remix lineages?  Is this era of the release worth getting or should I go for this new remaster?

Also, I've purposefully held off on Mogwai so that I still have bands left to discover.  I burned through post-rock real fast but wanted to keep some mysteries left to be mined.  They are one of them

  4. Just got our package too, and i ordered the oxblood and the sticker says P8/Black over something that ALSO says Coke Bottle Clear.

EDIT - just opened it.  It's fucking black.

EDIT 2 - lol it's the galaxy but holy shit there's no red.  It's basically black and you have to look VERY hard to see the red.

Reminds me of the 3rd pressing of "Red Forest" by ITTCT where they did a black and clear thing that ended up all black.  Oh well, at least it's correct.

Find a vintage machine with good specs that has not been run to death.

Take it to a tech that knows how to restore and service tape decks.

Took me over two years to get my vintage deck rolling. But for me it was worth the wait, and the $500.

Please point me to some good places to look haha

  6. If you didn't go, that's a bad decision.  Last night was awesome.

Here is an open offer to anybody/first come, first served.  There are no videos from this tour with the rarities.  Everyone is grabbing Death Is a Relief.  I have a proposition for anybody will to take it - if you film the whole set, or SPOILER SPOILER STOP READING IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW -> -> Yawning and Take Me With You, I will cover your ticket price or drinks.  I am 100000% serious.

Yawning and Take Me With You will likely never be played again.  They were rare even when they had less material, and what with the drunk tourists talking over all the quiet stuff, I think it's to be expected that these tunes never come back unless they do a Death Spells anniversary tour in 20 years.

It doesn't have to be up front or anything.  Full set gets you ticket price + drinks because that's a haul.  Yawning and Take Me With You gets you your first drink.  Candy through Take Me With You (first 4 songs) gets you ticket price.  That's probably the best deal because your ticket is covered and you can enjoy the back half of the set.  We have enough videos of Arrow lol.

Glad to see it readily available for the time being.  I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t have LLO on their shelf.

I have it, but haven't been able to connect with it.  I ***LOVE*** Sagarmatha and I really like Fleeting Light.  I have had most of their albums at one point, because I got them cheap, but sold them because none of them had great production or hit me like Sagarmatha does.  I really tried!

Sagarmatha is so good though, I love that album.  I can't believe that people are asking what they are for that one, I thought it was universally loathed by hardcore fans.

I already alerted Danny about this. We shall see what develops. Ads are out of control and it's honestly making me not wanting to come here let alone do my admin stuffs b/c the ads get so cumbersome. Esp. on mobile.

why would he suddenly choose to do this out of the blue?

I want to grab that Excelsis but I’m so iffy about “mixed color” vinyl.  It sounds like it could be the same thing as that trash “eco vinyl”, which is just leftover color pellets at a discounted price to the plants.  I haven’t seen a single good review for any record pressed with that approach.  The label themselves weren’t able to confirm if it’s the same thing or not, which bodes well. 👍

So I spoke with my buddy, it's not the recycled vinyl thing.  It's just mixed pellets that have never been used, so it's the same quality.  This was a band decision to go with, not sure why but that's what I was told.  The "eco vinyl" is when they recycle records and melt them and reheat or whatever, which in my estimation would compromise the structural molecular integrity and result in a softer, not-as-good sounding product.  This is not that.

  10. You want to go with Dunk! Pressing.  They've been cranking out really nice products and are about to scale up in a big, BIG way.  Their turnarounds are not crazy, and they are some of the nicest people.  Shipping from Belgium.  I have so many of their records, and they all sound great.  They're still small enough to care about the product and not just crank out shit to make product.  They're good people, I know them personally through their festival.  You can tell Wout and Luc that Greg sent you.

The last buy I orchestrated took over a year to manufacture the variants we needed, and after being strung along with "your new shipment expectation date" e-mails – every 2 weeks, for about 5 months – we all decided to cancel.  I hope the production and shipment of this release goes substantially smoother.

    On it.  I'll ask.

Band reached out to me. Clarified it was label stuff and they heard from them as well. Mod team removed me from Discord not them. I guess let’s all agree to turn off ultra-serious mode and back to order hype.

I was going to say... I've met Ryan a bunch, and him and the rest of the band are super, super nice guys.  He's been kind enough to talk with me a few times and help sort out some variant questions.  I had a hard time believing it was them.  This is what happens when bands get big: other people make decisions for them.

To the band:  Sorry for always yelling for "Yawning".  I promise I'll try to stop.

Anyway, I snagged both /250's.  Hopefully the oxblood looks cool, unlike that clear/black mix for "Red Forest" by ITTCT that was literally black with like, a few litttttttttttle teeny tiny clear blips, as if someone spilled a drink a foot away and got a few drops on it haha.

  14. Your best bet is to take them to a local store.  Let them do the work of sorting through it, for a fee.  There is also Discogs, if you want to go through and price out what you have, so that when you can take them to the store, you can say "hey, i know this is worth X.  If you give me 60% of that value for this lot, we have  deal."  Because they need to make money too, and you got them for free.

Yeah I think I could take 1 of each from Post's shop!

The Shy, Low S/T sounds great - very happy with that preorder/purchase.

yeah, their roster is no joke.  I can't believe there are still copies of Hubris in stock too.  That album is so good.

For those who don't know, The Introvert is also the side project from Jeremy from TWDY.

Can't wait for my package. I got the new Still Motions too.  that band grew on me a lot.

  16. yo i don't know if you guys are paying attention but Post. Recordings has some sick, sick stuff available.

I just picked up both variants of I Hear Sirens - Beneath the Sky, but they've got The Introvert - Carry the Bomb, Carry the Power and that album is awesome.  It's so different but i love it.  Almost like ambient synthwave mixed with S/T's programmed drum ideas.

Also, IN EXCELSIS BY TEOTO ON VINYL FINALLY!!!!  I'm very proud to say that I was sort of the genesis of that, linking the band to my buddy who works for Post.  It sounds ***INCREDIBLE***.   The re-recorded On Floating is *so* good.  you must check it out.

August 12th at St Vitus in NYC. I’m going to have to skip a day of work to go but I’ve never seen YONL or PFB before. I feel spoiled seeing Gospel three times in a single year 😅

Their set at Dunk was fucking mindblowing.  The lights, and the sound... it was so much.  I was a bit too tired to really appreciate it all but man, those climax moments during that set were BONKERS.  I can't even fathom how they're going to fit on the St. Vitus stage?  it's like 20 feet wide.  The Dunk stage had to be 100 and they filled it.

    I'll probably come haha
