  1. will change the topic title as soon as a pre-order launches, and as soon as I'm able to do so. I'd also like to add that I've searched for a similar thread and found nothing.] I'd wager to bet a few of you are anticipating this release. Just as much - if not more - than yours truly, I imagine. Has anyone heard any news of a pre-order? Do you suspect it to be available through Sargent House's site? I've never pre-ordered a Russian Circles record - no idea where it's done. The official release is October 25th... and since we've officially entered October, I expect it to drop soon. Very eager to see what kind of beautiful variants may accommodate the cover: Pre-order here. Since it's all on one variant - black - I went with Amazon to save roughly $5.00. Times are tough and I'm cheap.
  2. There might be, but it'd probably be easier to just open it. And maybe even play it.
  3. I was kind of interested in seeing how those hazes would turn out, but that Orange + Blue is just so... Botch. Even if I wasn't cheap, I don't think I could've grabbed two copies and felt alright about it.
  4. Yeah, I hear you. There are a few bands that get a ton of discussion around here that I'm just not into [either anymore, or ever have been]. But it's all good. I've discovered quite a few artists and genres through vinyl - and consequently, VC - and have also met my fair share of cool cats. I really can't complain.
  5. HEY ASSHOLE YOU THINK YOUR TASTES ARE SUPERIER TO EVERYONE ELSE HUH FUCK OFF.
  6. Sorry if it's been answered before, but does anyone know which press number this is? Third or fourth?
  7. Any relatives, maybe? I'm sure a fellow VCer would be able to help you out. I'd be willing if I wasn't in your same boat, myself.
  8. Totally agree with almost all of this. (The lack of Vheissu love is where I draw the line. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets a Circa Survive vibe from the poppier stuff. I can't help but to think of I Felt Free when I hear the chorus to Treading Paper. Neither sound alike, really, but they both have that optimistic, soaring feeling. And yes, in case I misled anyone - there's not a single "bad" song on this album, in my opinion. Even the few songs that have a chorus or verse that I'm not so crazy about, there's definitely something else to [more than] make up for the segment that will likely grow on me, over time. I'm absolutely perplexed by anyone who says that every track sounds similar on Major/Minor. But to each their own. I'm just glad we can all agree that it's a solid release. Thrice seems to raise the bar with each release, and I never quite know what to expect. So glad - though not really surprised - that this album delivers.
  9. waitwut? Call It In The Air gets fairly "heavy" - as far as heavy goes, for this Thrice release - and it's smack-dab in the middle of the record. Yellow Belly is pretty aggressive, and it kicks off the album. Blur hits hard, is towards the back end. Not counting the heavy stuff, tracks like Anthology and Promises pack a lot of energy in a straight "jam" kind of way... and those are spaced out pretty well, too. Not trying to change your personal take on the album or anything. I'd say Treading Paper and Words In The Water are the only two "tame" songs, in terms of being mellow. And those are both technically in the back-half, so I can see where you're coming from. And as an aside, I love WITW to death. And I'm apparently not alone: thick, apparent, religious undertones can't weight down the beauty of that track.
  10. I sure hope so. It's about time this record received some variants.
  11. The chorus on Blinded, Cataracts, and Treading Paper almost have a little too much pop-shine / cheese / U2 to them. Which is something I would never expect from Thrice, so kudos to them for exploring new sounds and pushing their boundaries, yet again. I'm sure they'll grow on me over time. Another thing I noticed about this album... is that regardless of whether or not I actually love the song, each and every track gets stuck in my head. At first I wasn't terribly impressed with the chorus of Blur or Listen Through Me... but after they rung in my head at work for a day, I couldn't help but appreciate them the next time I'd actually play them. (Though to be fair, it's actually the pre-chorus of the latter that gets me. Hot damn.) I haven't "loved" a Thrice album on a first-listen basis since... Artist In The Ambulance -- but to be fair, that's only because I was quite into the genre at the time. Vheissu, Beggars, and especially The Alchemy Index all forced me to explore new waters, musically, and listen with an open mind. Major/Minor continues that challenge. I genuinely believe I wouldn't be half as into this band if they released albums that were immediately catchy, straight forward, and rewarding.
  12. Really? That's interesting. Everyone I've talked to has claimed that Beggars took longer to appeal to them than Major/Minor. Which I feel is true -- the beauty with M/M is that it hooks early on, and just continues to grow and grow. I've only listened to the album from start to finish, all the times I've spun it. Definitely suits the record well. What exactly do you mean when you say that the album is top heavy? I feel like the first half of the album is geared a little more towards accessible vibes and catchy choruses [with the exception of Call It In The Air's dark and mathy bridge.] The second half, to me, is a little more somber, mature, and Thrice-sounding. [Minus Anthology, which isn't so much somber as it is amazing.] I don't know. I feel like the people who "get" Major/Minor are the ones who listen to the album in fall, and grasp the flow. I can see why a lot of people think that the record is mediocre at best... but I feel like a few genuine, focused, complete plays will change the verdict of even the most critical listeners.
  13. Yeah, you're exactly right. A lot of it stems from the fact that I'm probably not as hardcore about AAL as others. It really comes down to where income meets preference, like you said. More power to you and anyone else who's stoked on adding this to their collection.
  14. Same. Prices were rather steep for single LPs, but I'd been putting them off for long enough. Colorways look sweet, too -- I have a feeling I won't regret springing for them.
  15. That's all I wanted to know, thank you. Carry on folks.
  16. My sentiments exactly. This isn't a case of whining about inflated prices. I'm just genuinely interested in what's going on, here. Both Junius x2 LPs are $20 a pop. Let's assume that Weightless is a double LP. [Which is giving it the benefit of the doubt, since there's absolutely nothing to indicate this.] $25 PPD for a black, 180 gram copy? Not terrible, I suppose. I could live with that. Limited to 500, and the best sounding variant of the three? Seems fair. Clear vinyl: $28 PPD. Limited to 400, and not 180 gram. I'm paying an extra $3.00 for less quality, sound wise - which should be the most important factor, no? - but I'll be able to own a colored press, and it'll be rarer than the black by 100 copies. [because I seriously care.] "Weightless" Blue vinyl: $30 PPD. Limited to 75, and also not 180 gram. An additional 25% on top of an already-sketchy cost, for wax that's colored and limited. Can we admit that this is a cash grab that's targeting the Gotta' Catch 'Em All mentality of vinyl collectors? I don't sell my records, so variant-rarity is hardly something I focus on, personally. I buy what I think looks and-or sounds the best. I'm not trying to harp on anyone who bought the "Weightless" blue. Prosthetic knew what they were doing, and obviously didn't ask too unreasonable of a price, since the thing sold out in < 2 hours. But how many of you proud blue-owners would be a little disappointed if - a month from now - they announced they were repressing 525 more copies of "Weightless" blue... thus making it the most common variant? Would you feel ripped off, at all? Again, I don't mean to sound like I'm on a high horse. I'm just curious. And yes; I'm already aware that this is indeed a cool story [bro]. But does having a die cut jacket and limiting one variant really warrant such a spike in cost? Or changing the color of the wax, for that matter? I almost feel like you're paying for the rarity of the variant... which is laughable, really. Anyways. Stoked to hear this album, and eager to find out if this thing is a x2 LP. B B B B:)
  17. Thank you. Will you be getting any clear copies? And do you have any idea when they'll go up?
  18. I must be extremely dense; I've looked at the pages and read the descriptions several times over, and I still can't determine why the hell they're asking $30 PPD for a single LP. Can we get serious for a moment? I half-assumed I was in an eBay shop.
  19. Very interesting, and pretty sweet. I think I dig it more than the blue. Sucks to hear about the low cut, though. Thanks for the photos.
