  1. Damn. 2 weeks ago they had Acid Rap in stock, but I held off to buy it with this. Now its OOS again.
  2. Got the 7" today. Hounds of Barrio is great, but it reminds me of a couple album tracks. Reenk Roink or Bleep Blop or whatever is pretty terrible. I can understand why both tracks were cut from the LP.
  3. I don't really think this or CHz are really dramatic departures. I think the tunes on CHz are thee, but it was marred by poor production choices. I enjoy the hell out of this album. It's a pretty focused effort for them and maybe a bit more pop focused (well, as pop as AC can get). Ultimately, because of how they write songs, it's all pretty original and different from what's out there.
  4. I think it was intended to be a one off, but it turned into Universal Themes.
  5. Just got my National - Cherry Tree (/1000) the other day. The Cherry Red/Black Swirl looks good, but serious IGD on the Title Track. Hopefully they do the other Brassland National albums (or hell, all the albums)
  6. This is one of those albums that makes you feel very old when you find out its 20 years old.
  7. i know it's easy to be flippant about pitchfork or its influence, doesn't change the fact the author wrote a good piece.
  8. It's fine if people don't like Kanye or 808s, but that Pitchfork article makes a great case (as I'm sure other articles have also made in the past 10 years) that 808s has been an influential album since its release.
  9. People are allowed to have tastes and preferences.
  10. Fine. But his whole schtick is copping the 808 vibe.
  11. Great p4k piece on 808s. http://pitchfork.com/features/overtones/9725-the-coldest-story-ever-told-the-influence-of-kanye-wests-808s-heartbreak/
  12. I'm just saying Drake is one of the most popular artists in the world now. Had 808s not come out, his sensitive rapping singing schtick wouldn't have taken.
  13. Drake wouldn't have had any opportunity if it wasn't for 808s.
  14. I like the Radiohead comparisons in terms of shift. I really felt like this album is his kind of Kid A/Amnesiac shift. Its a departure for the most part, but lots of threads to the older sound. Also the reception of the album reminds me alot of how Kid A was perceived upon release.
  15. I think after 25 years, it's been made abundantly clear. The band do what they want, when they want, the way that they want. At this point they know people want reissues. But they also know that they will sell whenever they decide to get around to them. The cynical part of me also thinks that the band thinks if people bought them when they were originally available, there wouldn't be as much complaining and they don't want to kowtow to the hip demand. They pushed vinyl for years. If you hopped on the train then, great! If not, well you snooze you lose. Like I said, cynical. I really think its a matter of the band wanting to put their energies in other things and they will do vinyl reissues when it comes time to celebrate anniversaries of albums.
  16. It will. I have around 1800. I think it looks sharp. But I only have one for 24 letters and 2 for soundtracks and Comps.
  17. If you have 1000+ records, its helpful. Its just nice to be able to jump to the section immediately. But yeah, it only saves you 5 seconds of thinking. Also, $25 for 25 is pretty much all you need. 50 is a lot. Do you really need a stand alone for Q, X or Z? Save 2 of those for Compilations or V/A or Soundtracks or something.
  18. Yeah, PJ shipping is weird. They must get more on their end from UPS mail innovations than the consumers get.
  19. Also I guess the company that makes them charges the same price for non- PJ branded boxes. So it is what it is in regards to these particular crates.
