  1. So that the Batman movie thread isn't completely derailed, I vote we move the comic book discussion over here. Anyhow, every time somebody mentions Watchmen, I always think about how most people who are into "indie" comics talks about how they don't like mainstream superhero books like Superman and Batman and the X-Men. The irony is that Watchmen has sold more copies than any issue of those comics EVER will. I'd say Watchmen and the Dark Knight Returns and Sin City and all that stuff is the real "mainstream" of comics. The best selling comic ever probably was lucky to come even close to 100,000 copies. Most books sell like 35-40,000 if I remember correctly. Meanwhile, Watchmen has probably sold a million by now. I know it's the style of the comics that people think differentiates it, but as far as I'm concerned that stuff is mainstream, and assholes like myself who read Batman every month are the indie-reading motherfuckers. The characters in the books are just better and therefore easier to bastardize in movies and on TV. Don't get me wrong, I liked Watchmen. I like a lot of the comics that people who don't read superhero comics like. I just like superhero stuff better. What do you guys think?
  2. I can't even begin to imagine how many comic books I have. The past 5 years or so have pretty much derailed any sort of organization I used to have. I keep them all in my parents' basement(because that's the #1 place to keep comics) but I live in the city, and I really only drop them off down there once every other month or so. I had, last time I organized them probably about 15 long boxes full. And I'm not talking about Spawn or any of that chromium cover shit. I have near complete runs of Avengers, Captain America, etc from the 60s on. Now the room in the basement is completely insane...mostly new comics fucking EVERYWHERE. Everything is bagged and boarded and whatnot, but there are many many stacks and bags and random, unorganized boxes. I need to probably spend about a week down there to make it manageable. The problem is alphabetizing them all (or even organizing them some other way). There are so many, that it's almost impossible unless you have a giant room to do it in and lots and lots of time. Every time I go there now I just look at it and close the door and walk away. Unfortunately, it's in the basement, and taking them upstairs and into my parents' giant bedroom to organize them would take forever. I think I need to figure out some sort of gigantic shelf system so that I can have them on rollers so I can roll boxes out and actually get to stuff. Either that or I need to just cut ties with some titles. The problem is that most of the ones I really like are the ones that I could bank for. Also, selling comics on eBay sucks dick, as there are so many being sold there these days. I probably should just make a list and bring it in to my local store. I spend probably $50 average per week on comics. It's fucking sickening. I rarely buy old stuff anymore, except when I can hit conventions and get a bunch of old ones to fill gaps real cheap. Very expensive hobby, but really, I just like reading them. My record collection pales in comparison to my comic collection. I really don't spend much on records at all.
  3. Pssshht, I never pay full price for a movie. I almost always hit that double feature. I paid for one, stuck around for a free showing of Walk Hard.
  4. So the guy bought it, and immediately put it on eBay when he got home from the show? Quality.
  5. No, it was no-namer dick, but John C. gets close.
  6. The Hush series was good. I'm not sure if I'd say it was the best. I think I liked No Man's Land better, but I haven't read it in years. I really like the way Batman has been written in JLA.
  7. Come on, of course I've read the Killing Joke. My comic collection is bigger than the 5 biggest record collections on this board combined. Haha.
  8. There weren't any dick jokes, just plenty of nude raw dick.
  9. Holy shit this movie was hilarious. So many guest appearances. Lots of Judd Apatow crew members. Plenty of gratuitous penis shots. This shit was basically great. I can't imagine anybody not liking this movie. A+ would recommend.
  10. I think he'll be damn good. He looks retarded, but what do you expect? He can't be dressed up like Cesar Romero. They gotta make it somewhat realistic. I'm sure the movie will be quite excellent and Heath Ledger seems to be playing the role well. Should be hot. Oh, and while I liked Frank Miller's work on Year One and I do really like the All-Star Batman and Robin book, I really didn't like The Dark Knight Returns or the sequel. The first one was ok, except for all of the annoying dialogue, especially in the "news stories." Too 80's. I guess that's sort of the problem with the Burton movies. I liked them, but man, the new shit is way better.
  11. Are you implying that you slept with Maura Davis?
  12. I took 4 years in high school (well, 3 in HS, 2 in junior high that counted as 1 in HS) and then when I was an undergrad I actually took a year of Japanese. Needless to say, I remember a lot more Spanish than Japanese. That shit is beyond complicated. At least Spanish uses letters and not characters.
  13. Maybe you were reading MY mind. Am I blowing your mind?
  14. Demure is easily the best one, and probably one of my all-time favorite records. After that I'd go... To Bury Within a Sound S/T Under the Pretense of Present Tense They have a 4 song EP and some 7"s as well. Keeley is on every record. The first record he's only on about half the songs, but he sings the rest on To Bury Within the Sound and Under the Pretense of Present Tense. If you like Engine Down, you'll probably like the new project from Keeley/Cornbread called Glos. There's an LP on Lovitt that came out this past summer. Good shit. You should also definitely check out Denali (Keeley/other guitar player - Jonathan? were in that band as well), and I guess if you like Denali, you should check out Ambulette.
  15. Glos - Glos Haram - Drescher Call Me Lightning - Soft Skeletons Boys Night Out - Boys Night Out Ghostface Killah - The Big Doe Rehab Wu-Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams 31 Knots - The Days and Nights of Everything Everywhere Ugh, slow year.
  16. Tony Stark had weapons contracts with the US government. There's no way in hell he didn't have more money than that.
  17. Yeah, the USPS sucks dick around this time of year. Mr. Gill E. Ad sent me a box of sampler CDs from Osh Kosh on November 17th. Still not here.
  18. I'm pretty sure every single small distributor only does consignment, especially for small labels.
  19. I thought the ending was weak. First half was exciting and awesome, then it went downhill as he went nuts.
  20. I'm not so sure these ones are going to be going for $1500 again...
  21. The IMAX prequel was pretty hot. Plus it had Mahone from Prison Break in it. That shit looked amazing in IMAX. I might have to go see it that way when it finally comes out.
  22. Scott - I seemed to remember everyone playing a bit shorter than usual...and there was definitely a huge gap between the first pre-rain chunk of bands and the post-rain bands. I was at the Chicago 95 Warped Tour. Everyone but Sublime played. They were kicked off the tour because the singer was a fucking drug addict. Also, L7 played. Quality shit. I was 14.
  23. I read the thing on Turnbow, and he actually tested positive in the 2004 Olympics, I thought? I could be wrong. MLB.com has a handy thing where it lists the players and then links you directly to the information on them in the report. Pretty fucking wild. I do like how they're all a bunch of fucking cowards and wouldn't come in to talk to Mitchell. So stupid. The worst part about the whole thing is that the about 10% of those guys who were actually star players would have been stars without the shit and the other 90% sucked even WITH the drugs.
