  1. I agree with your basic premise, but you are presuming based on a photo that someone has spent thousands on records. Those records could have been old hand me downs, dollar bin finds, gifts, etc. But it is a rather sad problem that so many people are listening to their records on audio technica or Ion tables that don't have a counterweight or allow you to upgrade the stylus. If you have one of these tables, you certainly do not know what you are missing and if you're really interested in getting the full experience from your records, you'll need about $$600~$1,000, which is just 33 $30 records. $300~$400 for beginner audiophile grade table such as Pro-Ject Carbon $75 for SpinClean (or just by the solution and go DIY) the rest for amp and speakers. I started with a AT-PL300. Everything changed when I got a Pro-ject Debut III. But it is all relative. I was actually about to pull the trigger on a MusicHall 7.1 or Pro-Ject Xperience when I decided to get a few colored Earth ADs instead. I don't regret the decision.
  2. I have got beat up. I never played it. Make an offer, please.
  3. on eBay for $0.01. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251620408521?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Risc store sent these out to people who preordered the Hands That Thieve. It is a recordable blank CD with a full color lyric and photobook for all the tracks on The Hands That Thieve. I'm no longer a fan, so I'm letting it go. I thought eBay was the best choice to give everyone a fair shot at this.
  4. just slashed prices away. almost everything less than half what i paid for before shipping.
  5. You need to upload them somewhere to host them. Then use image tags [DELETEMEimg]your image here[DELETEME/img]
  6. I post pics by uploading them to facebook (set to private), and then copy the url and paste it here.
  7. Yes, this would be awesome. I enjoy all the discussions about record collecting. I don't care for the POs. POs need their own subforum as they take up most of the room here.
  8. http://www.discogs.com/Stereolab-John-Cage-Bubblegum/release/4303042 According to the history someone sold 6 copies for $30~35 of "unplayed stock" last year. 6 people were super lucky or it was a fake. That record took me so long to find.
  9. Which four? If you mean Pains of Being Pure, Stereolab, and the Swedish one, those were worth a lot more back in the day. And the black Stereolab goes for $15, but the colored one is super rare. Also, that's probably me on discogs with the lowest prices.
  10. First come, first serve. Please PM so I get an email notification. I can't check this thread so often. Buyer covers PayPal fees or sends as gift. Minimum order of $5 please. 11. I never tested it after removing from the frame. It looked great. It could have been the overlap in the frame that made the record susceptible to damage, but it could also just be that USPS was rough with it. Anyway, I have a buddy who had the same record without a sleeve, so the guy is getting everything in the end. I refunded him as well. I have a high end Misfits record that was purchased by someone who kept it framed. It plays great.
  12. I had a double-LP in a frame. The first LP overlapped half of the 2nd. I took it out to sell and it seemed absolutely fine. I sold it and shipped it. It was packed with extreme care in bubblesleeve made for LPs and multiple cardboard inserts, the records bookending the jacket. Somehow first LP, that overlapped the 2nd in the frame, arrived completely cracked.
  13. 1) I only do this with my favorite. First was Screeching Weasel, but eventually I got everything. Over the past few weeks, I sold the rarest SW variant and traded another. Balzac has been my favorite band, but their records are so rare (press runs of 6, 13, 24, 99, 138) that I gave up trying early on and focused on the Misfits. I had about 80 Misfits records, but I realized that completing the collection at that point would cost $16,000, which is stupid. So I stripped off my Misfits collection to the bare essentials above and raised a few grand for Balzac, which is the collection I'm working on now. Including jacket variants. Balzac has 98 pieces of vinyl, 348 CDs, 48 tapes, 39 VHS, and 92 DVDs. I put all their stuff on discogs here: http://www.discogs.com/artist/296257-Balzac 2) I like to switch it up. Different colors can add different moods. For me, sound quality is most important. Rhino pressings, especially the colored ones, of Walk Among Us sound terrible, so I usually give up trying to play them after a few seconds. They're so bad, that I sold 5 of them and didn't buy the latest (purple) press.

  15. I think in addition to a poorly organized floorplan, Recofan's in stock items are comprised from more mainstream collections. I remember buying the following records at Recofan: The Softies It's Love 12" (Slumberland) Misfits Walk Among Us (1988) Meatloaf Deadringer Dan Fogelberg Greatest Hits Billy Joel Songs In The Attic NOFX Self Entitled Joe Queer Presents More Bounce To The Ounce and some Judy Ongg singles.
  16. It all depends what you were looking for. Recofan in Shibuya is huge and it really takes hours to browse through everything. The used section caters mainly to mainstream releases, but its also a treasure trove for 80s Misfits stuff for low prices. The Shibuya punk section stinks and it's just a few new age bands, but they have an alternative section in the middle of the store that has a lot of 90s~2000s punk releases. Recofan isn't my favorite store. Another kick ass store is The Vinyl in Shinjuku. Problem is that it can be very expensive for some releases, but they have a lot of hard to find stuff. This blog has photo of The Vinyl and many other stores I listed: http://www.vinylrecordcollector.net/2012/11/tokyo-japan-style-definitions-table.html
  17. Here are some of my favs: Tokyo: Record Shop Base (Koenji) - punk http://www.recordshopbase.com/ Barn Homes Records (Shinjuku) - garage punk, punk, rock n roll, doo wop http://www.barnhomesrecords.com/ Disk Union Punk Market (Shinjuku, Shibuya) - Shinjuku one is better. Disk Union Indies - Shinjuku, 6th(?) floor Disk Union Shimokitazawa - everything, great punk Disk Union Machida - http://diskunion.net/shop/ct/machida Disk Union Kichiyouji - http://diskunion.net/shop/ct/kichijyouji Nat Records (Shinjuku) - obscure punk, hc, surf, 60s, 80s, rock http://natrecords.shop-pro.jp/ Yellow Pop (Shimokitazawa) - everything http://www.yellowpop.jp/ Recofan (Shibuya) - everything http://www.recofan.co.jp/map/beam.html Yokohama: Micky Room (Yokohama) - punk - this place is a MUST! http://ameblo.jp/bubble-and-squeak-record/entry-11499282375.html Recofan (Yokokama) http://www.recofan.co.jp/map/yokohama.html Disk Union (Yokohama) http://diskunion.net/shop/ct/yokohama_west Disk Union (Kannai) http://diskunion.net/shop/ct/yokohama Also in Yokohama is this hidden away shop that has every oldies record in the world. It's HUGE. I think this might be it; Back To The Rock Records http://rivieras.web.fc2.com/ ~~ Banana Records is pretty good if you like mainstream stuff There's this huge (red brick?) building in Shibuya that houses a lot of small record stores and brothels. Here is the address: 1103 Noa Shibuya Bldg, 36-2 Udagawa-cho Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0042
  18. New records in Japan are very expensive (they factor in the importation costs and have to compete with Japanese releases which have high prices forced on them for a certain number of years due to a certain pricing rule). But Disk Union is the place to go for very cheap, used vinyl in excellent condition. Disk Union tries to keep a flowing stock policy where new items come in and old items move out, so they price their stuff very cheap. I collect a band called Balzac (also translated their new single ) which Disk Union puts out their stuff on their label, DIWPhalanx Records. Punk LPs are usually priced at around ¥1000, but DIWPhalanx stuff is usually ¥200 for an LP. The most expensive records I ever saw at Disk Union's Punk Market were HOFX (¥5000), Screeching Weasel s/t (¥7000), Ramones w/obi (¥30,000) and Misfits Famous Monsters (¥4000). You can find great stuff in their ¥100 ($1) bins. Japanese Misfits Bullet boots, NOFX 7", etc. I'm only familiar with the punk market stores. One thing that is a super must is the 2nd Floor of the main Disk Union in Shinjuku. It is an accessory shop and you can get the best anti-static inner sleeves, outer sleeves with flaps, cleaning stuff, you name it, it's there and not expensive. I love Disk Union so much that before I left in Dec of 2012 I went around Tokyo taking pictures of them.
  19. Hi, I was living there when all that went down. If there was an actual radiation threat, I'm pretty sure that the US would have evacuated the military bases they have stationed around the area. My best friend lives in Fukushima and has had 2 healthy daughters since the accident.
  20. You can get them here: http://www.discogs.com/ Just add the items to your want list and check in frequently.
  21. Any copy of Walk Among Us for $15 is going to be an absolute turd Rhino repress. You can get real sweet 1988 copies for $25.
  22. Local shop will give you up to 50% of the item's worth. eBay + paypal will suck out 18~20% of the final value in fees. Discogs will snatch 8%, but you still have paypal fees. Discogs traffic is very slow and prices are very competitive. As mentioned above, the best way to maximize your return is to write a list of everything and look up their values. Popsike.com will tell you how much a record has sold on eBay in the past if it sold for over $20. 1st, place the list here for prices that are fair. 2nd, put the most valuable stuff on eBay for Buy It Now prices at 20$ higher than you list here and at Discogs for 10% higher. You'll need packaging material, which can be ordered at http://www.4bubble.com/ for the lowest prices I know of. Be sure to read this thread to learn how to ship a record: http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/56823-how-to-pack-a-record/ If you just want to get rid of everything at once, you can list them on eBay for lots in an auction. The market will determine the value. Be sure to check the grading with Goldmine standards: http://www.goldminemag.com/collector-resources/record-grading-101 Records should be shipped outside their jackets to avoid splitting the jacket's seam.
  23. Each year, a record shop map is released in Japan. It is like a mini-phone book. Mine is 464 pages. But its in Japanese only. http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B3%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89-CD%E3%83%9E%E3%83%83%E3%83%97-12-13-%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86%E5%B7%A5%E6%88%BF%E7%90%83/dp/4309909515
