I'm a Clinton supporter, but I don't really want Warren to be her VP.  it's one thing for some random senator to be trolling Trump on twitter, but it's another thing when it's the VP candidate.

I think this website shows the 2016 tax brackets.  depending on your income, you would "deserve" to keep between 60-100% of your income.  after a bit of math, I think my effective tax rate is ~20%, but that's not counting deductions and things like that. I'm not sure what "it" refers to, but I'm guessing it means "my tax money".  in that case, I think everyone deserves "it" and they each deserve an ~equal share of it (e.g., everyone has access to public schools, libraries, highways, etc.).  some people (based on their income, family size, etc.) need a little extra help (e.g., housing, food, insurance, etc.), so we give those people access to additional resources. if you refuse to pay your taxes and you get caught, there's probably a fine or potentially some jail time.

how much do you pay in taxes each year?  how many publicly-funded things do you take advantage of?  how much do you think those things cost?  what happens if you pay less in than you get out?  is that theft?

I like taxes, even if I pay more than I get out.  I've benefited from ~22 years of public education and worked for publicly-funded places (academia and gov) for the past few years, so now it's time to "pay it forward."  after all, it seems like kind of a dick move to go to public schools for free and then bitch about how your property taxes are too high once you've graduated.

I heard Trump's going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.

Who is going to pay for the disabled folks' medical bills?  And who gets to decide what constitutes a "disability"?  And do we also help children of disabled folks, or should we force them to provide for themselves?  I suppose we could just let the free market decide, right?  I don't see how that could possibly go wrong.

And my response to your question: Because it's the right thing to do.  That said, it's certainly up for debate how to go about helping people who can't/won't provide for themselves.  Maybe if we (as a nation) would elect more rational people into public office, we'd be able to come up with more rational solutions.

That's what's so great about Trump -- he's just saying what ~20% of the country wants to hear, and he doesn't really care how it sounds as long as they vote for him.  If he ends up being elected (or even if he ends up being the nominee), who knows what he'll start saying?  I'm pretty sure he's said something on both sides of ~every issue, so it's a toss-up.

In any case, this campaign season has been great to watch.  With Rubio and Cruz both winning states tonight, I'm sure both will stay in the race for a long time, all while Trump continues to win the majority of states (with only ~40% of the vote).  Then, come convention time, the GOP will be a hot mess trying to figure out how to nominate someone other than Trump.  While I'm sure this will be (and has been) embarrassing for the US internationally, if it results in the implosion of the GOP, I'll consider it worth it.

just got my boxset from amazon.  in case anyone is nervous about the packaging, don't be -- it's packed like a tank

amazon ships it in an oversized box full of paper stuff (i.e., the kind of packing that puts a sick feeling in your stomach), but the boxset itself is inside of a special black box with fitted foam padding.  haven't opened the set yet, but I'll do that soon.

btw, mine is #'d 05185.  there's no "/XXX", but if there's 5 digits, there must be at least 10,000

I just confirmed with Forced Exposure that they do in fact have a limited amount of white.  I put my order in yesterday at around noon, and it shipped today, and I got in time for the white.  Not sure if they are still available today, however.

it was the worst outcome for gordon, but I think it was one of the better outcomes for the race.  logano had a strong car all day, and he was in front down the stretch.  I feel like the "worst" possible outcome would have been someone who didn't deserve to win getting up front due to a crash-fest and then automatically qualifying for the chase

oh, and I feel like nascar is a great sport to watch if you don't have anyone in particular to cheer for.  get in a fantasy league and pick a bunch of different drivers each week.  unlike other sports, there's only one "game" to watch each week and all of the drivers are involved.

aside from getting attention, what was the purpose of people lying down in shopping malls across the nation?  is that going to help bring police departments and the black community closer together?  I'm sorry, but unless I'm missing something, it just seems like the protestors are led by the underpants gnomes...

phase 1: get a bunch of people to lie down in shopping malls
    phase 2:
    phase 3: end racial disparities

wouldn't it be more constructive for protestors to organize meetings between police departments and influential members of the local (black) community?  try to figure out what both sides can do to help the situation going forward...?
