rudeboydh got a reaction from turbobrando in MAN ADVICE
A true story about a cuddling business thingie that's being discussed. I think I said something about wanting something like that when I was drunk last night. My friend said that he did that on Craigslist for free. Just, you know, he would go to the girls houses, or they would go to his house and watch chick flicks, and just cuddle with them. Until one night, this larger mid-30's black lady came to his house. Everything was going well, and they ended up fall asleep on the couch together. In the middle of the night, he woke up with his dick in her hand, and you can guess what ensued. When he woke up the next day, she was gone and there was a $100 bill on his nightstand. He then realized he'd became a whore and had to stop.

So yeah... I just moved in with a buddy here, and it's actually helped a good bit with not being depressed and such. Things are getting better day by day, but I still get random moments where I think about her and get upset. I guess that's only natural. Everybody from old friends to total strangers have really helped me over the last couple weeks. People really have been great. If anything this whole experience has renewed my faith that people aren't just total dicks all the time.

The fact that this is from the 9:30 club is awesome. The facts that its $25 and coming from SRC makes me want to start throwing feces around like an angry gorilla. Not buying this from SRC, no fucking way.

I talked to two dudes from Silver Sprocket about this on Friday. They are going to try to get us(Fill the Flask backers) a DL code for the album somehow since the vinyl is backed up. Hopefully this will happen...

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the board these days.
While I'm still buying vinyl, I feel like the collective tastes of the board have shifted further and further away from the things I'm interested in. My real life has also become a lot more crowded than it was when I first registered here in '07, and I just don't have the time to sift through all the crap.

rudeboydh reacted to atticus in What's your White Whale record?
At rsd back in 2009 there was a dude outside of Wuxtry in Athens, GA doing lathe cuts from mp3 rips on 7" wax for $10/ piece. I got him to do 4 copies of my band's 4 song EP (from wav files at least). I even had one of my best friends hand paint covers for them. I kept 2 and snuck one into the 7" bin at Wuxtry and one at School Kids. Both of my copies was stolen when my house got broken into later that year- my records in my room were taken as well as a safe box from my closet with my "sentimental crap" in it. I went back to both stores and checked through hundreds and hundreds of 7"s multiple times (the owner of Wuxtry even helped me) but both copies had sold. My friend that did the covers for me died in a car wreck back in 2010. I haven't stopped looking for it since and never will. I would pay unspeakable amounts of money for this shitty lathe cut 7". THAT is a White Whale.

I have nothing to say in this thread except for this:
Dear Christian pop-punk bands: If I can't tell whether you're talking about Jesus or a girl, you're doing a bad job.

A new song premier from the new album, "The Battle for Clear Sight". This song gives me the chills... so good. This is probably my most anticipated record this year.

Spent today color matching records to colors to be printed.
Yes I know there's no gray or white shown as those are the easier ones to match the vinyl to the print versus the print to the vinyl.

rudeboydh reacted to moonbeams in Vinyl is so trendy AKA does anyone here buy / listen to vinyl?
To the OP, what you have to consider was that for decades vinyl was the leading format for music. Tapes dominated the 80s, CDs decreed the 90s, and records were always there in the background.
Maybe its wishful thinking, but I see vinyl resurgences more as a reclamation of power and return to the norm over lesser formats than a trend. But I don't know who's buying records and why.
However, I do see somethings that point to trend a could lead to a collapse.
1. 180 gram record. Record labels will have the consumer believe that 180 gram records are a sonically superior product. Not true. They also claim that 180g records are less prone to warping. Anyone receiving records in the summer knows this is also not true. Almost all my 180g records are warped whereas my thin records are flexible and fine.
2. Colored vinyl. Colored vinyl doesn't always sound worse than black, its really up to the mastering and how worn the stampers are that determine the quality of sound. However, when you get into crazy things like splatters, half and half, and glow in the dark vinyl, you introduce new elements of surface noise that detract from the purpose of a higher auditory experience in order to have something pretty.
3. Consumer fatigue. Here's something no one talks about, but I'm sure all can relate to this pattern:
1. new enthusiast getting started scoffs at record pressed on 5 colors. thinks collectors are fools.
2. complacency sets in with color owned, looks at pretty pictures of variants on the internet
3. decides to buy a variant to see what its like.
4. has desire to get another
5. becomes hooked, gets the rest, no matter how expensive
6. time passes, records sit on a shelf unlistened to. shelf looks stupid having 5 copies of the same album
7. new pressing is pressed on 3 new colors, buys them all not out of desire, but in order to maintain collection
That's where the consumer fatigue steps in and it could possibly threaten this resurgence of records.
