DC and Stars just sorta fell flat for me save a few tracks here and there so it was nice getting excited over a Beach House record in 2018 but yeah they definitely didn't completely revamp who they are as a band.

I gotta disagree here to an extent. The album to me, at least for Beach House standards, is a massive branch out. It's definitely still BH and has their signature sound, but I love that they just went wild in the studio with every track. You can really tell right from the first track that it's a sonically expanded experience, which is crazy given that they've always made lush soundscapes their trademark. Black Car best song for sure though! I also seriously dig Woo and Dark Spring... and Lemon Glow... L'Inconnue... The second half of Dive... Drunk In LA... Fuck, this album is really good. I guess I should grab me a copy of the loser, after a lot of back and forth I think yellow looks best. The insert and holofoil on the cover really sell it for me.

This turned out so well! Makes me so happy that MAGA was a one off fluke (yeah it was terrible in retrospect) and that the album really does tread some new ground for frank. It’s all in all far more dynamic than his previous output without being alienating. Definitely more lush and full production wise, getting some serious Eels vibes, especially from the opener. Can’t wait to dive further into this thing then my box set shows up.

Caved and got that clear when stock got down to 3. No guarantee a better variant will pop up and I guess I’m still a sucker for non-black pressings. all said, clear probably matches the artwork best anyway

This is exactly where I am now with new purchases. I don't variant collect and I don't care about pressing numbers, I just want something that looks good when matched up with the album art. Some of the best recent ones I can think of are the Translation Loss issues of We Lost the Sea's Departure Songs, some of the variants of the new underOATH record (the art direction is arguably the best part of Erase Me), and something as simple as the deluxe version of Lorde's Melodrama on opaque royal blue. The hue just matches perfectly with the album art. So something as simple as an opaque color will do it for me if it's appropriate. But c'mon, how hard would it have been to throw up a cloudy clear w/ some combination of green/yellow/pink/blue splatter out of like 300 and maybe a silver/grey and black marble/merge out of 500. Then give DW 500 clear, and throw the rest of the 2,000 batch on some tour variant along with standard black and call it a day?
