  1. Every thread that I read regarding albums that are being pressed in the US and Europe, there's always some guy who chimes in that the Euro pressing will sound better. Well, the Rough Trade pressing of "Universal Themes" sounds pretty bad. By far, the worst sounding Mark Kozelek related record I own. That includes the Plain pressing of "Songs for a Blue Guitar".
  2. I like your word "invest". That's important to the conversation. What are your intentions of getting into records? Because they're cool, trendy, and hip or because you're interested in increased fidelity over other mediums? I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt and I'll assume the latter. If so, then you shouldn't get into it half-assed. Buying a poorly designed and cheaply made turntable second hand, then plugging it into a soundbar is the definition of half-assed. You are better listening to MP3's than doing that. It's cheaper, be less of a hassle, and sound better. Contrary to your belief, I actually LOVE that people are getting into records. I want people to remain into them and for people to remain into them, they need to get the most out of their records with the least amount of frustration. Getting the most out of them requires buying a decent turntable, amplifier, and speakers, which means an investment of multiple hundreds of dollars. (I would prefer thousands, but I'm trying to be realistic). It means an investment of learning how to set up a turntable. It means learning about the care and cleaning of records. You went to a messageboard dedicated to the gear you can't be bothered to properly invest in, vaguely describe your problem, and then got pissy when you received a response calling you out. Sorry, not sorry. I may be "what's wrong with the internet", but you're what's wrong with society. You want the benefit of things without properly investing your own time and money into in them and then you want other people to fix it for you when it doesn't work. For the TL,DR folks; take back your crap turntable, then, after reading "Beginners Guide To Turntables" thread, buy a real turntable, amp, and speakers. If you have issues then, feel free to ask for help.
  3. Since the OP doesn't appear to know the difference between highs, lows, mids, pitch, his ass, a hole in the ground, etc, he/she should just invest digital music. Turntables are hard.
  4. If the power supply is regulated, it should be fine, however, if it's unregulated, the voltage may fluctuate due to the access amps. The voltage could have also dipped, which might account for why the LED lights up, but the doesn't pass signal. This should be the take away from this: POWER ADAPTERS ARE NOT UNIVERSAL! Other than just the amps and volts, there are differences in polarity, design, and connection type that could harm your electronics.
  5. It's possible that you blew something in the unit when plugging in the wrong amperage ac adapter. I would email Cambridge and see what they have to say about the ac adapter.
  6. I like them quite a lot. They are similar to the KEF LS50's that I replaced, but a bit fuller.
  7. I'm selling a pair of three foot Blue Jean RCA Cables. $20 shipped and PPed in the domestic US.
  8. FUCK. I can't believe I missed the preorder on this. Stupid fucking generic band posts.
  9. If only there was a thread where there were suggested speakers in different price ranges... hmmm...
  10. So, yeah, I just gave up waiting and ordered it from Amazon UK. Came to just under $30 US with shipping (not sure why shipping is so low, but yay for me).
  11. I'm starting to think the Rough Trade pressing will be the only pressing.
  12. Replacing the belt should fix the problem with it playing too slow. I, too, also suggest replacing the stylus rather than the whole cart. It's cheaper and it's something you can do yourself. Changing the whole cartridge is NOT easy. You need equipment (a tracking force scale and an alignment protractor), a fair amount of knowledge, a steady hand, a good eye, and a lot of patience. If you really want to change the cart, I'd suggest getting a Shure M97xe cartridge (it tracks well, sounds decent, isn't that much money, and it's pretty ubiquitous) and having the local hifi shop install it.
  13. As an aside to my aside, I was already familiar with G.L.O.S.S., but just listened to Whirr. They're actually pretty good. It's a shame they're assholes, but I might still buy their records.
  14. That's cool and all, but then the idea of gender becomes meaningless. Maybe that's the point? I dunno, whatever.
  15. Regarding this Dakota Bahney character, I'm confused. Everything I've read states that this person is female, but all the pictures I've seen and a video I watched leaves me scratching my head as to how they're not a dude. I hope this isn't considered transphobic or whatever, since on this board being transphobic is worse than being a pedophile, but seriously... I'm confused.
  16. If it hums on every input with the volume down, it's a blow cap in the power amp section.
  17. To be fair, of the phono preamps I've owned, the Emotiva was the cheapest by about half the cost of the next cheapest (the Parasound). The Parasound sounded more analytical and thin compared to the Emotiva, which I would describe as warm sounding. In terms of amplification; at the time I would have been using either a Rogue Cronus or a Bewitch 6550 (I believe the latter). I believe I tried a Denon DL160, DL103, and a Grado Gold with it. There are any number of synergistic things that would make it sound less good for you and better for me.
  18. I think the one you bought was the one I sold here. Of all the phono preamps I've owned (it, the Rogue Triton, Ray Samuel's Nighthawk, Sutherland PH3D, and Parasound ZPhono USB), it was the warmest of them, which is why I suggested it.
  19. https://emotiva.com/products/pres-and-pros/xps-1 Good sound, lots of options. Won't break your bank.
