  1. The idea that this band is similar to Hootie and the Blowfish pure dumb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZKTXc0tk6E
  2. The idea that European pressings universally sound better than US pressings is nonsense.
  3. I wish they'd reissue the godamned Necros records already.
  4. It makes the most sense to first put your money into the turntable first.
  5. Really? Am I the only one who got them already? What was the spelling error? I listened to "Rollercoaster" and it sounds good. I'd have to check on the pressing plant.
  6. I actually have a pair of Monitor Silver RX1 speakers, which have pretty nice bass extension for the size that I'm considering selling. I bought a pair of KEF LS50s which I'm on the fence about since they don't have the same bass output.
  7. Weird, I see people selling belts for them. Maybe some were DD and others belt driven. Good luck. Edit: Those might be for the tone arm movement.
  8. It might be interesting to note that Marc Maron has a Pro-ject table and a Rogue Cronus Magnum in real life.
  9. Did anyone see Episode 11 of Seaon Two of Maron? The episode revolves around Marc going into a record store and deciding he needs a tube amp. He ends up buying a MC240. Nerds will note a few things. (POTENTIAL SPOILERS) One, he has no preamp which would be necessary for the MC240 as it's a power amp. A big deal is made of him paying $4k for the amp, but the turntable show in a McIntosh MT10, which retails for $8k. The local record shop dude comes to his house to look at this set up and says his cartridge sucks and needs a Grado. I would assume someone who spends $8k on a table as something better than a Grado on it. His bookshelf speakers are actually on a shelf close to the wall. They are also at unequal heights. It's on Netflix if you want to check it out. The episode is NSFW.
  10. The speed flucation is probably due to an old belt. Replace it. To get the stink out, clean everything as best as you can with Windex and let it air out outside for a few hours.
  11. I'm not into cassettes now, but when I was a youth, it was the only option. I used to rock a Sony Sports walkman. It was a fine piece of machinery that held up nicely. In 1992, I lost it in a halfpipe while snowboarding. I dug it out of the snow and, even after being run over with the edge of my snowboard, it still worked perfectly. It's rotting is some landfill now.
  12. I have. They've either started to grow on me or continued to break in or both as I enjoy them more now than on the first few listens. There are things I like about them and things I don't. One of these days I'm going to A/B them with the RX1's and make a decision on which I like more.
  13. Since the Magnum 2 was released, I've seen a few Magnum 1's being sold for below $1500. If you're sold on Rogue, that would be the route I'd take. It's going to better than the Sphinx for around the same price (of a new Sphinx).
  14. I cleaned it on my Record Doctor V and it helped, but didn't make it silent.
  15. I picked these up yesterday late and set them up and listened to maybe an hour of music. So far I'm kind of meh about them. I just realized that they're 8 ohm and I have them hooked up to the 4 ohm outputs on my amp, so fixing that may help. I'm not sure how broken in these are. Supposed they weren't used much. Maybe they need to be broken in more. I thought my out-of-the-box Monitor Audio RX1's sounded horrible until they broke in fully. I dunno.
  16. I compared the new pressing to the last pressing. The new pressing has a better mix. There is more low end and the highs are slightly extended. On the downside, the last pressing was dead quiet and the new one is pretty noisy.
  17. It's unlikely that your turntable has a built in phono preamp. It's also unlikely that the AV receiver you've unwisely decided to use for your amplifier will have one built in, either. There are four main components necessary to play vinyl: a turntable, a phono preamp, an amplifier, and speakers. Every link in this chain is important. Good luck with your new set up.
  18. The idea of attaching speakers to a turntable seem like a dumb one, regardless of how pointless the gimmick of a vertical turntable is.
  19. Unless it gets to 140 degrees in your place, your vinyl will be fine.
