Blink-182 - California (Out Now!)
stokd replied to marc32137's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I was thinking the "ooohs" in the chorus sounded identical to the backing vocals of Adam's Song, and whatever that keyboard/synth/organ/something sound is sounds exactly like whatever fades out at the end of Adam's Song and into All The Small Things. A few things almost sound like a nod to Jerry Finn, I have really high hopes now that I've heard this song. -
Consider yourself lucky, it was $21 just to ship it to Canada. Didn't change if you got just the vinyl or a record and a shirt bundle. Between shipping and the abysmal exchange rate for the bundle I spent a whopping $82. I'm digging the last couple songs they released (Inside Out, TKO, Lose Control) and am hoping there aren't too many whoooa ooh's on the rest of the album, but they're still pretty catchy. Justin Pierre mentioned in an old YouTube update that they "technically recorded 2 albums" and didn't really elaborate. In a reddit AMA I asked if one was an acoustic "re-imagining" of older songs or what exactly was on the 2nd one, and he responded it was something along those lines...I was a bit disappointed only seeing 11 songs on this album instead of 13 or so but am still itching to know what this other thing is they did. There's still a Farewell Continental record coming out hopefully later this year or early next year as well.

Brand New - TDAGARIM repress in 11/4
stokd replied to futre's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Fuck, I really want one but to ship it to Canada is absolutely ridiculous. *edit* It appears they've changed it since it first went up. Still not great, but way better than $30 shipping on a $2 booklet. -
Brand New - TDAGARIM repress in 11/4
stokd replied to futre's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
This whole impending doom/writing on the wall thing I think is spelling out they're going to break up, which sucks, but Jesse has said he doesn't want to be one of those bands that's doing this when they're 40. Personally I'd like to believe the RIP just means maybe they'll stop playing stuff from the first 2 albums or means they'll be going in a different direction, but who knows. I saw somewhere, someone had a theory that they were going to write this album as if TDAGARIM and Daisy didn't exist, because had those demos not been leaked, they probably wouldn't. This one really does sound immediately post-Deja with some flairs of Daisy in the noisy guitars. All I know is I hope more of the album sounds energetic like this, I need some new gym music badly. -
Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross - GONE GIRL Soundtrack LP
stokd replied to jhulud's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
For sure. It's funny how distinct of a vibe the soundtracks have had, something about the piano and ambient sounds and the way they're arranged is unmistakably Trent and Atticus. I can't wait to put this on in its entirety, the soundtracks are great to read to. -

Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross - GONE GIRL Soundtrack LP
stokd replied to jhulud's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'm surprised the pre-order didn't go up sooner, the movie comes out in 2 weeks and in the past there's at least been a couple full songs up somewhere. I'm really digging the one playing on the NIN homepage though, sounds like a perfect progression from Ghosts I-IV and The Social Network. That said I'd piss my pants if another Ghosts album was on the way. -
PO: The Menzingers - Rented World - 4/22/14
stokd replied to subplotofcrows's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
If the rest of the album is as good as I Don't Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore I'll be very happy. So far sounds like a perfect continuation of On The Impossible Past.- 467 replies

Loving the heavy synths on this. Remurdered kind of reminds me of the main theme of World War Z, if Thrice during their Water EP era took a crack at it.

Whatever it is I'm very interested. If MCS doesn't put something out this year I kind of hope Farewell Continental has some time to put out another EP or something.

PO: The Naked and Famous - In Rolling Waves
stokd replied to passionbrand's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I just noticed now previews are on iTunes. This next 2 weeks is going to be agonizing. It sounds a lot more moody than the last record, more along the lines of Tegan and Sara's last album. Liking it. EDIT: Heard the leak. This is definitely going to get overplayed. Different, but great.- 15 replies

PO: The Naked and Famous - In Rolling Waves
stokd replied to passionbrand's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
They're from New Zealand, but yeah I pre-ordered from Amazon instead. It'll probably ship 18 weeks late with no explanation but eh. The one thing I love about this band is the NIN influence, which is clear in Passive Me, Aggressive You. Very stoked we also get a new album from them in a few days, listened to the stream already and absolutely loving it.- 15 replies

PO: The Naked and Famous - In Rolling Waves
stokd replied to passionbrand's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Wasn't crazy about it at first but the last minute and a half gets me going with all the noise and layering. So far it doesn't have "2nd album syndrome", I'm looking really forward to this.- 15 replies

FT: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo OST 6XLP Limited Box Set
stokd replied to stokd's topic in Sale/Trade/Wants
Bump? Off topic but even if someone has a copy of The Social Network they're willing to let go of, PM me. Not for trade, obviously, but it's another one I can't seem to find. -
Another one I waited too long on and wish I had...PM me if you're looking to sell a copy.

I've been mulling it over and am doubtful anyone will want to, but it's worth a shot. I've come to the conclusion I really enjoy Ghosts I-IV a lot more, and even though this is a pretty awesome box set, I'd be much happier with Ghosts. On the off chance that someone feels the opposite and wants to trade the deluxe box set of Ghosts I-IV, I would be willing to trade. Throw me a message if you're interested.

PO: Alkaline Trio - My Shame Is True + EP
stokd replied to xadamhudsonx's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Having a hard time justifying the EP. If it comes with a download and ends up on Rdio anyways, looks like I'm just getting the album. I liked Damnesia but am nervous ordering anything new from Alkaline having not heard it yet. Sekrets ended up being good, Demos...not so much. This Addiction was a mixed bag. -

Out of the blue this past week I've been on a This Addiction kick. The new song caught me off guard, it's poppy as hell but I like it. -
I ended up caving for the tier 1 package...something like $39 shipping to Canada. I bit it because I was a few drinks deep. So far having listened to the album a couple times now though I really enjoy it, it's a little over the top in Baby Shakes and Bestial and sounds like a strung out version of The Matches, but overall the songs are pretty well written instrumentally and production is great. Love the drum layering/panning.

How to destroy angels_ - Welcome Oblivion LP
stokd replied to jhulud's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I was a little disappointed to see 4 songs from the previous EP end up on this, but they're all songs I like so I can't wait for this to come out. -

Crimson was the album that finally got me into Alkaline Trio. I'd heard the odd songs here and there over the years but Crimson was the first album I could sit through and loved almost every song. Keep in mind though I'm also a huge Blink/Jerry Finn fan, I loved the production on it. Gotten into a lot more since then but Crimson, for me, is the odd one in that it's probably still my favorite. -
I really don't get the point of buying records and keeping them sealed for years. My blue & white swirl copy was sealed a few months ago when I got it and I immediately opened that shit to play it. If you're buying records only to keep them sealed in hopes of higher resale value down the road, it seems like it defeats the purpose.
