Yeah, I don’t love this band’s discography so it’s tough to putting a few hundred towards some vinyl I’ll just never realistically spin.  I have a colored De-Loused from years back that’s treated me well, and I think I can hold out for a potential Frances press later on.  That’s kind of all I’d need, personally, so I’m having a tough talking myself into dropping that kind of money.  But more power to you if you go for it.

Watch them list colored variants of each album individually after the box sells out. 🙄

I got in. It says everything is sold out, so I bet it will be open soon. Says expected ship date is 7/31. There are prices for bundles that range from $65-$140. The vinyl only and single item prices are all $0 still.

That’s cool and all if that’s a principle artists want to apply to their music, but I’ve found that 99% of them eventually go back on that idea, because money.  Life happens, expenses happen – I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard an artist or label say that there are zero plans to ever repress a certain album, only to see it as a limited drop or RSD exclusive within 2-5 years.

Bootleg markets – especially those priced this excessively – are everything wrong with modern vinyl though.  Someone in another thread speculated that the kind of music that gets posted on VC – shit from the last 30 years, colored vinyl, limited editions – are more or less the NFTs of music enthusiasts.  That seems exemplified with boots.  These are all sourced from MP3s and can sound serviceable at best… but jokes aside, you can legitimately stream the same music at 320 or even 192 kbps, while simultaneously playing a YouTube video of “Vinyl Crackle Sound FX”, and you’re going to get the same result.  From a listening perspective, it’s a total meme to willingly pay $70 for this junk.  What that leaves is the satisfaction people get from having the spine of this record visible on their shelf.  Or the option to have it framed, I suppose.  Or the opportunity to snap a photo of it for Instagram (perhaps alongside the more affordable albums in the band’s discography) to larp as a devout fan and flex a complete collection, I guess.

“But OG copies are $600.  I’m not paying that.”  Then don’t, as you shouldn't.  Anyone who has been collecting vinyl for more than 6-7 years is probably aware of how everything eventually gets a reissue or repress.  There’s been stuff that I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined would get repressed; albums from bands who’ve been defunct for 10+years, with labels no longer in business, and seemingly no demand to have the music pressed again.  Patience is a virtue, etc.  I would rather have a gap where that album will eventually go, than a garbage copy that “sounds okay” as MP3s on wax.  But I’m me and you’re you.  Maybe I value shelf space more than you do.  Maybe $70 means more to me and the new releases I buy than it does to you and the prospect of saying you can finally own something that resembles a coveted album. People buy pastries with the sole intent of sitting on them and ripping ass so who am I to say what the world should or should not be spending money on at the of the day?

This album is better than Palms but I still think Thrice should've stayed on hiatus or reformed under a different name.  Doesn't quite live up to their prior catalog but I wasn't exactly holding my breath when taking it for a spin, so it was by no means a "disappointment".  Strangely enough I feel like there's a lot of great stuff to be found in the verses on this thing, but the choruses feel like complete jank and completely pull me out of the song.  I don't know how to describe them other than super left-field and-or forced.  Which is still better than anthemic stadium butt-rock choruses, don't get me wrong.  But they're the ultimate blue balls when the verses establish some A+ grooves or progressions... Riley and Ed definitely kill it; there were several standout moments where the bass shined, especially.

Regarding digital copies: bandcamp has been a blessing in recent years but I get that it's not always an option unless you intend to re-purchase everything through the platform, digitally.  I do enjoy that digital rips are included with any vinyl purchase though.  That being said I've probably been downloading MP3s for about 2 decades now and I don't think I've once crashed a PC or obtained malware from them.  Torrents are viable, but I lean towards P2P these days.  In about 20 seconds I searched one to find this album and saw 6 complete rips in 320.  I would bet top dollar that they're authentic 320s as well, and not some Youtube transcode bullshit.

I completely agree that it's nice and occasionally beneficial to keep an MP3 collection – I maintain one alongside FLAC as best as I can – but I don't think it's at all "harder and harder" to find them online these days.  Especially for bands as popular as Thrice.

Gonna' be the sweaty contrarian here and say that GKMC is a lot of fun and has held up over the years, but TPAB has always felt bloated to me, and isn't an album that retains my interest from start to finish despite several revisits over the last couple of years.  I know my opinion is of the minority, but I'm just throwing it out there.

You have to be able to see that comparing interpersonal relationships to dog ownership comes across as a tad misogynistic right?

It really says a lot about a person if they think it's acceptable to destroy private property, threaten violence, and use force against fellow citizens as a means of protest. You don't get to hurt people or their property because a third party is making an argument you don't like.

I guess my question here is, so these refugees can't come to the US...why do you all assume the only option is for them to go back to their deaths in their own country? Are you saying that no other country will allow them in either? Why, the leaders of those countries must be bigots too then, right?

As shitty as it is, Trump found a loophole to legally not pay taxes. If you can't show a loss like he did or find another way to legally not pay taxes you'll be fined/jailed. That's why they won't stop paying taxes. If that weren't the case, no one would pay.

Everyone in here seems like they've got the easy answer for everything, but it doesn't look like any of you are stopping to see the other side of things.

Why do you have to be so divisive about everything/everyone? Being concerned about immigration at a hostile time doesn't make you racist,  being pro-life doesn't mean you hate women, and if someone wants follow a religion they're not a "cancer".

Maybe if you guys weren't silent when the last guy was murdering muslims, people would take your outrage over strict immigration seriously.

Really?...This is the kind of behavior expected from you as well? C'mon. Action was taken as a result of WAXXX's abusive behavior and that should be it. The additional commentary is not necessary. I understand that you're upset b/c his comments and derision was aimed and involved you, but no need to get aggressive and abusive as such either.

And before anyone comes in saying so...I'm not being the PC Police or any of that...but it's my job (unpaid & thankless as it is) to maintain and remind people to keep a level of civility and maturity around here. Especially in any and all hot topics such as this one.
