  1. If you go into across the universe thinking you're gonna hear straight up beatles songs you're gonna be let down and think they got butchered. I hate musicals and I think that movie was brilliant and the versions in the movie are fantastic. My recommendations: Lucky Number Slevin(eric hearts u turned me onto this movie last year and I'm still raving about it!!) Ong Bak thai warrior...brutal thai action / martial arts movie based around the ong bak style of fighting...which basically employes the use of blunt parts of your body as weapons. Fucking INTENSE. More or less the same cast as the Protector which the star made up his own fighting style of ong bak mimicing the elephant physiology as a base stances...pretty nuts. When I saw this in the theater there was a lot of "crowd interaction" ie yelling and screaming at the screen and there was almost a fist fight. Both movies illicit similar responses. Both highly recommended in all out brutal fight movies. Hot Fuzz is amazing. Period. Nearly as good as Shaun of the Dead. The Propagandhi DVD has some awesome documentaries on it I especially liked the one about how the Palestinians are getting royally fucked by Israel who are basically enforcing squatters rights. And taking control more and more. Terrifying. The Take is a great documentary about people in South America...columbia or brazil who re-open the factory that the owners abandoned during political upheaval because they deemed it unprofitable to keep it going. Pretty amazing. Really inspiring story. Apparently this is a trend in south america with the workers taking back abandoned factories and running them in a co-op manner and dividing the profits equally among the workers. This is available from netflix too. That's all I got for now.
  2. That would be aaron danger's fault. His interview in AMP must be going to his head.
  3. I'll ask Virgil tomorrow, but if you ordered this it should be on it's way... They are kind of overwhelmed though.
  4. the only thing this thread makes me think of is finding my copy of their demo tape and selling it on eBay...or one of the 5 CDrs of the later demo...plus I really need to bootleg the shit from the times they played on my old radio show...
  5. Thanks to everyone checking out the Black Cross & New Bruises records!! I'm really honored that three of my releases made this list. Many many thanks.
  6. i saw them play once after they were starting to get big and pete did a pit call something to the effect of "alright everyone! front to back - side to side! wreck this plaaaace!!!" no one knew what he was talking about. it was pretty classic.
  7. how about I just send you money and you keep it! you were so pumped to get that at the Fest, you SHOULD have it!! totally serious.
  8. acquired at the Fest, also note Var's writing on the sleeve. edit...ugh cat hair on the record and I'm too lazy take another picture, upload it...etc...
  9. that also has a exclusive Weakerthans song on it...as well as Avail's brilliant Elvis Presley cover... seriously get this record.
  10. is out now and it is really awesome. great interviews from the band members, Steve Albini(Big Black, Shellac), Greg Kot, John Kezdy(the Effigies), Jeff Dean(Four Star Alarm, the Bomb) and loads more. It's really fun to watch...loads of extras too http://www.nakedraygun.org/
  11. As I saw monotonix at the Fest...yeah...they'll probably destroy your band. Weird they cancelled the tour...any reason given?
  12. I have the no authority 7" with two different covers. I can't remember off hand whether or not they're on different labels
  13. yeah, third that one...is it bad i'm contemplating flying to see him to get these 7"'s?
  14. I actually called J about that this week...but I think I need to just email his wife because that dude is impossible to track down. My votes: Pegboy Black Train Jack Grey Area 7 Seconds(but do era-s:the early years with the classics, then the hippie years/major label era then the HC revival years)...I love all their records and would totally do the hippie era set. Tom Waits would be insane...he has like 20+ cds that are for the most part nearly maxed out cds=2xLPs Quicksand That's all I can think of right now. Excellent thread idea!
  15. I'll post a full list of places and addresses tonight as it's too much to type out on my phone. I'll also put out an open invitation that if you're here and don't want to carry records home and you can find time to meet up with me, I'd gladly mail them to you.
  16. I don't even want to look at the box set link. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for not buying that from the record store I used to work at that had one for less than a day...fuck. I know I'll never get one of those, I've resigned myself to that truth.
