At least it wasn't a good genre of music.

    (lol, I'm sorry)

Hah all good. Honestly gets hard to listen to some bands just because of cringe-worthy lyrics. One song I used to love was by this band called Silverstein that pretty much advocates using a suicide attempt to make an ex-lover feel bad and try to come back to them, which is just hard to reconcile even after several degrees of separation. So it really doesn’t come as much of a surprise for just about all of these bands.

You can pretty much single out every classic rock band for sexual misconduct on one level or another. That’s what I hate about everyone singling out RA is, the music industry has been mostly free of the #metoo era criticisms even though it has been rife with sexual misconduct forever. Bowie raped 2 15 year olds, I’m assuming you aren’t listening to his music anymore? Led Zeppelin of course was well known to sleep with underage girls etc.

im not saying it’s right. It’s in fact very fucked up.

But the music has always been separate to me. It’s meant something to me separate from who the artists are as individual people, if that makes sense?

I actually don’t listen to any of those bands anymore. Same goes with Brand New, Michael Jackson, and even idiots like Smash Mouth for playing a show during pandemic.

I just find other bands or artists that scratch the itch for me. When I hear songs like “Nobody Girl,” it really gets hard for me to relate to it like I did in the past. Instead, I’ve gotten into bands like centro-matic, or war on drugs, that resonate with me in the same way that his music did.

Same goes for, let’s say... “Pretty Young Thing,” by Michael Jackson.  I just can’t. But, instead of separating the music from the artist, I turn to the millions of artists out there NOT guilty of molesting children or soliciting nudes from underage people.

Hell, I even bail on bands and artists that behave abusively toward people. Sure, it may not be illegal, but I’m not gonna support and relate to an artist that objectifies his “friends,” dangles fame in exchange for sex (even if they do take the bait, it’s cringey), and belittles them when they don’t reciprocate? It’s just gross, and I can’t help but think about it when he’s crying in his lyrics about “look what I did to youuuu, look what you did to meeee.”

Absolutely to each their own, but I think it’s fascinating to see that fans don’t realize he’s also very abusive toward them. Like someone said earlier, it’s kinda crazy how similar his behavior resembles that giant orange that just lost an election. Maybe there’s something to that?

  3. Honestly, this guy turned his “apology” into some sort of self-obsessed means of turning this into a redemption story.

All that to say that, after years of abuse toward the women in his life, I’m surprised fans haven’t seen that they’re also victims of his awful manipulation and they STILL show up for it. Dude threatened to cancel tours if people didn’t sell out his shows, forbade everyone to go to the restroom at a show I attended (or else he’d quit playing), and is generally a fucking crybaby like ALL the fucking time.

I really wanted him to come out of this. I really wanted to see him make some right steps toward trying to right the ever-growing list of accusations thrown at him. But he didn’t. He made it about himself, further victimizing the women that he abused for so long.

Man, I listened to Stage Four for the first time in a good long while cause it’s an exhausting listen, and I just don’t see how they’re gonna ever top it. I mean I am excited for Lament but SF is just bottled lightning.

few albums make me feel like this.

    I miss my Mimi.

    Fuck cancer.

Yea, the album is perfect but I never listen because it’s just too heavy. Reminds me of losing my dad. “...Is Survived By” was also integral in my coping with his loss, so this band will always just feel like a best friend that’s always been there for me. Can’t wait for Lament.

    Story time.

Back in the early 2000s I was a manager of several indie movie theaters in the Philly suburb area. I randomly came across Translating The Name  in 2004 and was floored. Played it on repeat all the time and got a fellow co-worker hooked on it too. In 2005 I saw that Saosin was playing at the Trocadero, a fairly small music venue in Philly. At this point I knew the band had a new singer, so I didn't expect the same vocal style, but I was still stoked to see the band live. I went with the same co-worker mentioned above. The set was pretty decent, but lacked the same vocal presence that the former singer Anthony could bring.

After Saosin played my co-worker and I went to the upper part of the venue to grab a beer. He lit up a cigarette and we stood there chatting. A minute later some kid walks up to us and asks for a light from my friend. He hands over the lighter, the two look at each other, and the interaction went as such...

    Kid: "Brian?"
    Co-worker: "Oh hey... Anthony!"
Co-worker (to me): "Do you remember Mike Green who used to work at the theater in Doylestown? This is his little brother Anthony."
Me: "Oh, yeah. Hey man, nice to meet you" (shakes hands)

At this point the two of them continued chatting and I stood there for a solid 2 minutes repeating in my head... "Anthony. Anthony. Anthony Green. Anthony Green? ANTHONY FUCKING GREEN!"
Me: "HOLY SHIT! YOU'RE ANTHONY GREEN!"
    Brian: "Uhhh, so what?"
Me to Brian: "Dude, this is Anthony Green, formerly of SAOSIN and now Circa Survive. We've played Translating The Name non-stop. That's his fucking voice!"

    Brian: "Oh shit."

The three of us chatted for a good hour about his brother, his time in Saosin, and new band Circa Survive. Turns out Anthony grew up in the same town as us and we knew his older brother without even realizing it. Over the years we would grab drinks with Anthony here and there in town and he often hooked us up with the Circa Survive show guest list or photo passes. I miss those days.

I’ve actually had a few run-ins with Anthony and he’s a total nice guy. I’m sure he’s toned down now, too, but that dude sure knew how to party.

thank god that the shipping to europe is more expensive than the record itself, so I wont be buying the 5th version...

    Total USD $52.25
    Subtotal $25.00
    Shipping $27.25

they also just launched theit webshop and looks like they saved some picture discs from relapse

Haha and I’ve effectively copped my... fifth variant now? Glad I finally got one with the bag and booklet... looks like I’ll probably end up deciding which other variant I like best and will sell the rest at cost up here.
