I’m sure if they were pressing this during normal times, we would have seen a 6LP version with the smaller book included, maybe with the tapes for $200.
but I understand why they broke this up like they did. There’s a large swath of ephemera, but to bundle that all together in covid times of production, it would be a bonkers amount and they wouldn’t move as much.
Ayyyye you justified my bonkers ass $250 purchase in one fell swoop. Thank you for this.

I wanna pull the trigger on this but I’m having trouble justifying a $90 cassette?

Few things -
“Shellstar” variant has little to no surface noise and sounds good to the end of the album.
Additionally, “Mombasa” is one of their best songs and I love this album and how the end of that song makes me wanna just dive back into their old catalog. Used to be I’d need a break after listening to a full album of theirs, but this is a p good segue into their back catalog.
Listening to that last song also makes me think we wouldn’t be wrong to expect more metal-tinged material in the future.

Sounds more like someone's running on pure emotion.
I also find fault with the whole "grooming" complaint. Are we not supposed to be friendly to people anymore? Is every transaction supposed to go from stranger to sex with no getting to know someone?
Also, she was 21. She's a grown woman. At what point are we responsible for our own actions and decisions?
As for the going for a second round while she's asleep... if that's true that's absolutely disgusting. But none of us were there, so there really is no way for any of us to know for sure unless someone openly admits to it. It would be wrong for us to make assumptions either direction.
People go multiple rounds of sex in one night all the time and it's not malicious. There's too much grey area in this story. Is Ray a creep? Probably. But she sounds like one too.
Sounds like it was just a toxic relationship in general that she was a consensual participant in. This feels like something I might've said about my ex after our toxic relationship ended and I realized how dumb I was for going along with it for so long. I do feel for her and what she endured because toxic relationships can be quite damaging, but the moment I "matured" was when I stopped blaming my ex for things that I actively participated in and enabled. Doesn't mean my ex was a saint, but doesn't mean I have to destroy their livelihood either.
Hopefully both parties can learn something from the experience, move forward, and grow.
Yikes. Bad look, mate.

Did they ever really have the metal purists though? It seems like people (especially black metal aficionados) were always snarky about Deafheaven and how they're categorized.
I agree that the new material should still fit nicely with their older songs in a set list. Sonically it's similar, and it should give George's voice a break. I'm sure he's still going to be as theatrical with the new songs though.Yea, I always hate bringing up this band amongst purists because they act like they’re too cool for it. I reckon this band was always heading in this direction, but I imagine that the constant digs at them for being “shitty wannabe metal” was more than enough to push them into this territory. Most of the true fans will stick with them. It wasn’t ever really about the growling vocals to me - I always dug the music first and foremost. Very excited to see where the rest of the album goes.
Tbh I could just listen to an entire album of their drummer just being a badass and I’d be content.

FWIW I appreciate it though. Wouldn’t have known about it cos got no time to be checkin the cassette boards all day.
Besides, so many other people do this, all the time.
That was kinda my thought process? It’s relevant to the album, soooo…

Cool. If I would have made a new thread over on the cassette boards, then you would have gotten upset about that. Get a life dude.
Oh, I thought he was being all tongue in cheek and y’all were buds.
That’s, uhhh… not a good look.

Man, I've seen so many feeling the same! Maybe I just loved that cheesy pop/pop-rock from the 90s too much, cuz I'm loving the new song. I also seem to enjoy pretty much anything Antonoff touches, so I'm hopeful for the album.
Honestly, I dig it more than I thought I would. Reminds me of George Michael stuff.

That video and their stage moves are cringey af.

OMFG I GOT THIS RECORD AND LIKE WOW THE MAILER WOW BUT LIKE SEAM SPLITZZZZZ
Y’all are a never-ending supply of baseless whining. Seam splits happen even when things are packed with that almighty piece of cardboard. Anyone wanna comment on how great this sounds and how good it is to have something that you could have potentially not owned? Because it’s awesome, and the records look great, and there are just so many other things to say here instead of the same old shit y’all keep repeating ad nauseam.
<end rant, can’t wait for everyone to back up their whiny posts with silly excuses as to why they’re entitled to this opinion>

Wasn't sure where to post this and didn't wanna start a new thread, but just saw a new less than jake split is up on bad time records and another variant on the hard times site.
http://badtimerecords.limitedrun.com/products/703958-less-than-jake-kill-lincoln-wavebreaker-7-45-adapter - the bad time variants /300
Hard lol at that price. The description even makes me wanna vomit. Didn’t realize there are “gatekeepers” within the exclusive ska scene…

The singer Brandin was a regular at a bar where I did sound for a bit and suffice it to say that he has never stopped living in and for the moment that they recorded their first music video. I genuinely think it's the only thing he ever talked about to me... which was pretty surreal, because I loved them on that show. There's no one more sad than a drunken failed rock star at the local watering hole.

Damn it. I'm still gonna hold strong. I already bought two Mouse Rat records this morning. I need to project some semblance of financial responsibility.
Hah, sorry to make your decision a little more difficult... just didn’t want you to miss out on those sweet, sweet variants of you wanted. I panic-copped the signed silver and standard smoke and am hoping this week stays quiet from here on...

The other day I received notification that I had ordered a Superdrag album in October that I definitely ordered while drunk and forgot. Makes me wonder how much random shit will show up on my front door that I don't ever remember buying.

Speaking of this, if anyone has an extra copy of the Integrity/Nothing 7”, I’ve got an extra one of these to trade.
I miiiight be down to trade my only copy. Big fan of Nothing and I like Integrity alright, but not sure I care for their covers (based off the snippets released). I'll jam it when I get it and def let you know if I wanna trade.
