  1. I think we need to revoke his superfan status I have a wife. Patricks antisemitism can wait until Valentines day is over.
  2. I don't think you have any idea what the pitchfork crowd likes if you think this was written for them. Guilt Show is the only record of theirs that doesn't fit into the discography for me, so it's interesting that you bring it up. That record felt like them pandering to all the fans they lost when On a Wire ended up not being what they were expecting. There is nothing here that hasn't appeared on their earlier records (though I think There Are Rules sounds most like Eudora) from the 80s pop to the wave of fuzz. There's some Spoon influence, but that's to be expected since they shared as member for a couple years. I get that there are detractors, it wouldn't be a Get Up Kids record without them. Every single record these guys have put out since STWHA was met with "Wait, why did they change their sound!" and lots of hate. Personally I dig that the band is constantly changing its sound, but even if you don't sitting down and listen to their records in order at least shows a common theme. But when STWHA came out I heard they were trying to sound like Saves the Day now. When On a Wire came out they were trying to write a Pitchfork record. When Guilt Show came out they tried too hard to write STWHA about again, and came out with a record that's 3/4 good and 1/4 awesome. GUK have changed drastically from record to record since their early days. It's nothing new.
  3. If The Get Up Kids made an album like Stay What You Are, it would probably be incredible. Even if they just covered it, it would be a million times better than this new album. This new Get Up Kids album is an enraging snoozefest. I have no idea what makes this an enraging snoozefest. It's so good.
  4. http://www.the1stfive.com/reviews/review-the-get-up-kids-there-are-rules I really dug it. Made my arguments.
  5. Who made this? I need to own this. Badly.
  6. Dude has great delivery but eh lyrics. Still his beats are fantastic.
  7. The issue I took was there's a lot of possible "weak links" in anyone's system. Anything from shitty cables, bad speakers, crappy turntable, garbage cartridge, worn out stylus, etc. The irony is that the odds are that the person probably doesn't care. Fidelity is not a primary or even secondary concern. Most people here are using turntables that cost under $100. What would you recommend if someone had 500 set aside to make their system better.
  8. Top 16 list technically. http://www.the1stfive.com/features/john-michael-bonds-end-of-the-year-list
  9. It's not easily explained since to get the full impact you'd have to know the other people involved and a back story. Plus, I wouldn't expect anyone to believe it. As a rational and overly skeptical person, I always dismiss other people's "supernatural" stories as either bullshit or naivety. Unfortunately, I can't dismiss what I experienced because it was neither. The shit was fucking intense. I was an atheist before it occurred and agnostic after. My pop is a minister. When I was in middle school I was using a ouija board at a friends house after a cast party in the middle of the night. My dad knocked on the kids family's door literally two minutes after we started using it. He said he felt the need to come get me and was furious when he saw we were using a board. Shit still creeps me out. Dad is not a fundamentalist at all, and he never gave me shit about wearing Slayer shirts or anything. He was only worried about things with real connections to what he saw as evil.
  10. I'm hoping Jake is being super DIY the day my order is packed, packs my order, notices my email is also Lokithelion and says "that guy should get a Deafheaven 7" In reality I'm just stoked on those Narrows 7"s.
  11. Finally picked up the Narrows 7"s I was meaning to get along with some distro stuff. Hope I get one in my order.
  12. That is really weird. Have no idea how that happened.
  13. Yeah JMB, Scott's busy creatively burning big piles of money like the rest of us now. I'm stoked, since I ordered his two latest money fires this weekend.
  14. I seem to remember Scott got this, but I could be mistaken. Ask him.
  15. Killing a marketing tool that people care about doesn't change the fact that it was always just a marketing tool. Lets face it kids, we were smoking smoking cigarettes behind the McDonalds with the managers blessing because we bought a lot of cheese burgers. But when people got out of line, cannonballing into the ball pit and shit or saying "hey manager why is the burger I bought taking over a year to get here" fun times started to end. I still support SH as a label because I love the records they put out, but that doesn't mean VC was ever more than a marketing tool. Ultimately the things people will miss about this place when it's gone, be it because we all got banned or because Virgil shuts it down, can be moved to the new board. Hopefully one that has it's own "petty bitching" section, simply because I think that'd be funny.
  16. Man if I could get you and Hostage Calm in the Nooga I'd be so happy. Need to get you back at least one last time homie.
  17. Or was there a lot of hype about it's release, only to be met with no pay off and no refunds?
  18. I like how we don't just feed trolls here, we give them crowns.
  19. I love this song. 7000 dying rats are awesome.
