It's not so black/white. Let's say you have a really crappy phone right now, I'd say upgrade! The iPhone that will come out in July will probably be a minor update like the 3G > 3GS. So if you get a new one now, your contract will be up in time for the iPhone 6, which will be a substantial update over the 4. That's just my speculation, but it seems reasonable w/ how the iPhone update schedule has gone so far.

Any of the Mario based games, that's really all I play on my Wii. I think there are now two Resident Evil on rails shooter games that are like old arcade style. I had Umbrella Chronicles which was pretty fun for what it was. I'm sure you can track it down for cheap too.

I can't speak for the performance of PLEX on a Hackintosh, but if you were going to go that route, my solution above would be better.

A Mac-Mini is your cheapest option if you want to run PLEX. However, you can just buy a cheap ION based nettop and run XBMC. PLEX is a fork of XBMC and for the most part they're the same thing.
