mdclanahan reacted to Subdomestic in Coronavirus COVID-19 Social Distancing Self-Quarantine Discussion Thread
The vaccination roll out in Canada is a fucking embarrassment and I am so frustrated with how things are unfolding here. I keep rolling back and forth between apathy and rage.
Toronto has been in lockdown since November, in some form or another. We are heading into a steep third wave and the flip flopping on what's open is driving me nuts. Schools are closed again however my kids have already been home for almost two weeks after a positive case in one of their classrooms. We've all been tested and are all negative.
I understand the need to keep schools closed to control community spread and protect teachers. I get it. And I say that as someone who is trying to work from home with two crazy young kids running around. I am just frustrated at how haphazardly it's being done. Our lives can't change on a daily basis with the flip of a switch. The shut down notice came 1 day after we were told how amazingly safe the school system is. I should be used to politicians lying and bending the truth but it's still disappointing when it becomes crystal clear that they just don't give a shit about regular citizens.
On the plus side, my elderly grandmother and my brother (front line worker) have finally got their shots. My parents are eligible to make their appointments as of today.
I am very jealous of the US doing 4M+ vaccinations a day. At least going back to being jealous of the US brings back some familiarity and normality. Congrats on finding your way out of this one guys.

For our incredibly fucked healthcare system, the US vaccination rollout is running the way it is because we "pre-ordered" and hoarded a bunch of viles in advance (before most other industrialized nations) and we're making it available to everyone we can ASAP so we could return to "business as usual." I mean its great but its main objective is to stem our economy from hemorrhaging the way it has for an extended period of time. It's a real mixed bag overall, but good for us I guess?
Other countries like Canada and the EU has given way more money to its citizens while they "figure it out" while we said here's 1 month's rent make it last a year.

Hydroxychloroquine looks hopeful to me. I think the FDA in the US is going to rush everything as fast as they can and so far it looks like they're moving so fast it could be unsafe. That's Trump for you anyway. His re-election is on the line with our economy and he knows it. I'm hoping they'll try the drug and see what happens. My wife's salon got shut down and while my income will be uninterrupted, she has to file for unemployment. She makes way more on commission than minimum so I hope DE will consider her tipped wages kindly with her unemployment. Our governor confirmed tipped workers will not receive unemployment benefits at minimum wage (meaning they'll receive more than minimum) and part timers can also apply for unemployment. I hope other states do the same. I feel awful for everyone in even worse situations considering her boss is doing everything she can for her workers. Most places would say peace out/deal with it yourself.
Our mortgage lender is trash and won't let us get assistance in a speedy manner. They're requiring snail mail that will take so long that we'll miss the due date. I can pay it, but I think other things are more important in the long run when a household loses more than half their income.
All this has proved to me is how little financial institutions and rich people care for anyone. And how I'm baffled at the people voting for Trump and Biden when they're crying for the things Sanders wants to provide. I'm not promoting Sanders (almost every politician is rich and only cares about money) but the hypocrisy is real. Also hoarders need to die. I would like to buy groceries, ya know? It'll be interesting how that affects people who get food stamps and state assistance the beginning of April.

I wish the Pirates of the Caribbean score would be pressed, I'm surprised it hasn't been so far.

great great news
and if we could hold off complaining about the price before we know what the price actually is, that'd be fantastic

Blueberry donuts are my favorite forever and ever. If you quit eating them last year then you're stupid.
This thread is going to get locked real quick.

1 Glazed, 1 Blueberry, 1 Honey Dip.
All in all it was a good haul, prices were fair and they had plenty of stock. A corner ding on the blueberry but it didn't stop me from buying it.

I keep hearing about T&N's catalog getting sold. And I finally looked it up. That is absolutely crazy Brandon Ebel sold their entire catalog. T&N has been crap for about 7 years or more, but up before that they always have some pretty good bands on the label. Such a shame.

The Night We Called It A Day was released on Uprok, a subsidiary of Tooth & Nail, so unfortunately it was most likely sucked into the EMI Christian Music Group Vortex, from which none shall escape or be sublicensed.

I hate unboxing videos so much. Usually they are for something I really want and the person I boxing it is a complete idiot and/or has no idea what they really have.

My brother bought this one for me upon its release. One of the best gifts I've received.
Passion Pit - Chunk of Change EP
A particularly elusive creature I pulled off eBay nearly 2 years ago. Don't think I've seen another one since.
Listener - Whispermoon
Another one that almost never turns up. Still waiting for Ozark Empire to never get pressed.

Would be great if we could import from Discogs somehow. I don't know if that's possible or not, the internet is all glitter and spaghetti as far as I'm aware

A friend of mine runs a pretty much all cassette label and when I was over at his house on Saturday to help him with getting some new releases together, I was really inspired by the set up of his office, so I took a few cues from him and moved an extra Technics deck I had laying around onto one of my work desks while also moving my cassette wall from the bedroom into my office.
