vinylmaus got a reaction from kamalatapes in Online sales of RSD releases
I figured that this thread should have links to all the sites that are putting up their RSD inventory so as not to be confused with other sites that just have sales of non-RSD items.

vinylmaus got a reaction from minor incident in RSD 2013: Tell your stories and share what you bought here!
Refer to what nothingnatural says below.
To add my two cents, I'm pretty sure Fingerprints did not specifically order just 1 copy of DMB to auction it off. They most likely ordered a few and only got left with 1. Hell, even only Amoeba in Hollywood got 2 copies. Two! So what's the best way to appease everyone and make sure the item gets put in the hands of a fan? Charity auction. Yes, I understand not all fans of DMB can afford inflated prices, but it's better than Fingerprints selling it to whoever was first and that person ending up being a flipper.
Many record stores do the whole charity auction thing with rare RSD releases. It's nothing new and I'm sure the RSD promoters would support it.
Now you say "it should not be up to the discretion of [the] one store owner." Ideally, yes. But this is reality where store owners hold items for people and do all sorts of things. This is the name of the record game. Just because you got in line first doesn't mean you are entitled to anything. You are the customer at the end of the day, not the person who owns the product.
If it was the record I wanted and waited for overnight, of course I'd be pissed. But I'd suck it up like a man and find other ways to get it (including participating in the charity auction).
All you whiners are such noobs to the record store game. Missing out on a limited edition record because the store owner wanted to keep it, sell it to someone else, do something else with it, etc is so common and happens on the other 364 days of the year.

vinylmaus got a reaction from tape in RSD 2013: Tell your stories and share what you bought here!
Update to this story about annoying guy at fingerprints:
So I'm looking at the record store's instagram and this annoying guy is commenting on every single fingerprints photo.
Basically what happened is:
1. Guy waits since 10pm day before for DMB box set.
2. Guy finds out owner is auctioning box set for charity (silent auction style).
3. Guy is pissed off. Proceeds to yell at owner and accuse him of many things.
4. Guy ends up place a bid roughly ~$200.
5. Guy ends up winning the auction.
6. Guy is denied the item as his winning bid is not accepted and is told by manager (owner?) to fuck off.
Good job Fingerprints. You did good. You did good.

Damn you people who got White Stripes for $23. Fingerprints marked up the record to $35. Talk about opportunistic.
Also Fingerprints was the site of the biggest whiner on RSD. Guy is 2nd in line at Fingerprints. Finds out that the only DMB box set is being silent auctioned off for charity by the store instead of being sold. Proceeds to argue with owner on it being unfair. WAH WAH. Starts questioning the charity and why the silent auction is not being advertised on facebook. Starts coming up with schemes like "Everything I buy here at the store I will put up on ebay with the tag 'fingerprints.' I should even change my ebay handle to 'fingerprints music.'" He proceeds to say dumb stuff like "Maybe I should tell the owner that I will spend $100 at his store and then anything I get with the $100 he can just auction off and I can get the DMB set instead."
I know the guy posts here, so here's my message to him: Stop being a whining baby. You're a grown man. Fingerprints doesn't owe you anything. Ultimately, waiting in line for an item is a gamble at the end of the day. It's really sad to see grown men bitch like a 2 yr old over some lame records. "HEY GIVE ME THE DMB BOX SET! I'm THEIR BIGGEST FAN. I'VE BEEN TO 77 SHOWS!"

pretty sure this guy is on the recordflipper's "tips" list because he's also listening posters which is apparently what recordflipper's cronies flip as well.

vinylmaus got a reaction from gabpower in Record Collectors Are Indeed Pretentious Assholes!
The guy sounds like a whiny idiot who is just jealous of what people have. Am I jealous of those people who have a bunch of Porsches and vintage BMWs in their garage? Sure. But I wouldn't go as far as to say "Damn them for owning that many cars and not really taking them for a spin. I only buy a car to use the shit out of and not for collecting's sake."
Also, he should've kept his mouth shut about reselling that record. No need to brag about it to anyone but yourself.
Having said that, he sounds like your typical 19 year old collector.

vinylmaus got a reaction from rudeboydh in Overwhelmed.
I started the hobby 4 years ago for a few months, then stopped...only to pick it up again 6 months ago. My collection is still small...primarily because I am extremely selective with what I buy because I am trying to curate my collection specifically to be unique. I listen to lots of music, but just because an album is good doesn't necessarily mean that I NEED it on vinyl. However, an album being good from track 1 to the last track is a very strong reason to buy an album as opposed to getting an album because half of the songs are good. If I only liked a few songs on the album, I would never get the album. Rule of thumb.
