Princess Logan
It's not a feminism thing, it's a respect thing. That's all I have to say about it though.
jerseydave77
I brought up the poor taste of the boobies thread three years ago and was more or less given the gas face. Never got it. Never go in it. E Edit: The Gas Face is not a good thing.

danionly
was agreeing with you on that part, they shouldn't be considered jackass responses, but they will be. I was referring to having to answer the same question like that over and over. Arguing that people are lazy and deserve a short response will never work though. Oh okay, I was totally confused! Why will it not "work" though? If you are saying to someone, "Hey, you should always check the OP since that is where most of the release info is." that is one person who now knows that on VC, check the OP first. If you're just answering their question every time, what's the point of having an OP with release info? Is it not to curb those questions? BuzzersonKillwell
I was drawing the easier comparison. Every thread has an ostensible purpose, some more narrow then others. If you go into a thread and post with off-topic shit with great frequency to the chagrin of people in that thread, you can make a pretty objective case for a ban from that thread, the boards, a warning or whatever the mods do. I think it would be much harder to police sexism, being moral issue with a lot of subjectivity. Do only the nudity threads go? Do you get banned for using the word slut, or only if you use it in a certain context? Are we even allowed to say butthurt anymore? Also, if the mods are largely reactive, not proactive, then you might make the assumption that the Blink 182 threads drew more complaints than the threads with nudity, which would also be an answer to your question. It's just that it'll still keep happening and people will still keep getting offended that you didn't just give them the info they so desperately want, but refuse to find for themselves. You're saying that inappropriate posts within a thread is warrant enough for a ban (which I don't necessarily agree with, warnings are fair), but that inappropriate threads are fine because their content goes along with the thread's purpose. It's not hard to police sexism. Just respect one another. Just like there was no tolerance for that dude who used the N word repetitively. We're all set to jump on him, but calling some gal you don't know in the Man Advice Riborn thread a whore is just fine and dandy....? jerseydave77
Here was my thought: this isn't a porn site so why do we have a porn thread? A logical extension to record collecting is pop-culturalism. So all those threads about movies, tv, books, wrestling and the like make sense. This is also a community so all the threads for advice, activities and every day sort of stuff also apply. A porn thread is an outlier here. It makes no sense whatsoever for this place.

Princess Logan
Why do we have to have porn? Why can't we all just be asexuals??? (But really, Allison summed that up nice.)
Brock N Roll
Sometimes, I feel like sassing newbies are like an initiation of sorts. Sometimes, it goes too far yes but I think if you can get past the initial ribbing, you will be welcomed with open arms. I remember when I first joined here, I posted a sales thread of some RSD stuff and about 10 people destroyed me about being a flipper. Obviously, I wasn't and I got through the initial "being treated like a noob" phase and I've made a lot of great friendships here.

Sorry, I'm not trying to jump at you (which it's coming off like I am) I'm just trying to work towards a solution or something. So yes, I'm just going to be an asshole and tell them where to find their own answers. I am/was a noob and was able to navigate through it, and so can others. Princess Logan
Someone from here brought donuts to my doorstep when I was just fresh out of my newb phase. Being nice and learning how to appropriately react with other people has rewards! Anywhere you go, there will always be jokes made at the expense of new people. None of it is done with malicious intent and that's usually pretty clear. People will always take stuff the wrong way. Not everyone will get along. Just the way the cookie crumbles. Then you collect the crumbs in a record bowl.

I was saying that is why action was taken, not whether a ban was appropriate. I agree with you, I think a warning would have got it done in this case and is probably a good starting point. And yes, I also expect no one would get banned or warned for posting boobs in a boob thread. We can have a discussion about whether or not those threads are appropriate but they aren't exactly analogous to the ban that started this discussion in the first place. I was trying to separate the two and tackle the issues individually.
Princess Logan
asexualism would just make it all so much easier Asexualism in a world without a sexual society would rule so much. So many hugs and high fives. Probably a lot of baked goods.

Sometimes, it goes too far yes but I think if you can get past the initial ribbing, you will be welcomed with open arms. As far as I've seen, I haven't seen it go too far. As examples, some noob blew up because a couple people joked about how he thought a trace of white in his red opaque record was a blemish. Another is that enyfour guy in the blink thread that was being teased about being on all "the lists" for every Hot Topic. If that is what is called bullying nowadays... what the hell.
