Discussion Regarding Posting Guidelines/Ground Rules

Recommended Posts

Loads of really good stuff in here that I totally agree with. I ran out of upvotes by page 2, but rest assured that most of you would have got at least one.

From my point of view, the one thing that was a touch grinding in the blink thread was people posting misleading information. I know it was all really harmless stuff, but as I've said before, I would suspect that that thread has a greater number of younger (read: gullible) users in it. This in turn only lead to more frustration from these young'uns. And once it started, people seemed to pile on.

However, that hasn't really happened in that particular thread for a few (hundred) pages, so it was probably just an isolated thing. But I didn't feel that it added to the thread really.

I'll start out by saying I, even though that user made a stupid post about my daughter and I, added fuel to the fire. I haven't been into the vinyl game long, but I REALLY like this community. Even as a dude in his 30s with a career, a hot wife, a child, the ability to waste stupid amounts of money on vinyl, and growing debt, I did something I'm embarrassed about. In order to be internet cool, I started trolling the tolls in the Blink thread. It was dumb and pretty much uncalled for. I began recycling what others have been saying/doing for a long time; I kept it going. I became a part of the problem to the people who legitimately wanted to participate in the Blink thread. That wasn't/isn't cool.

However, with all that said, I feel there are members here (who have been here longer than I have) who are acting way too entitled; some of these are the same people I was copying in the Blink thread. (I still don't know where blonk came from). Yes, you may have a lot of posts, be known on the forums for lolz and coolz, but this doesn't mean you get special treatment. What you want it life doesn't always happen. Why should it be like that for you on a free message board? Yes, people are stupid; go look at the "which turntable should i getz" on r/vinyl, or watch a non-internet savvy relative try to use Facebook. We don't have to be the stupid police. If people are trolling, report them.

I vow not to be a jerk anymore, even to people like Enyfour5. He's a troll. However, a lot of us are. Their stupid question is just as stupid as me pursuing the shocker discussion in the Blink thread. Let's just be nice. That's my spill and apology.

Rule:

Stop trolling the trolls; just report them. Don't be a part of the problem.

P.S. Please don't turn this awsome community into r/vinyl. We get it: you're cool and have a lot of posts and people know you by name. But. Please. Don't. Turn. This. Into. A. Jerkfest.

I really like this post, and I felt that it deserved singling out in this thread. It was really shitty how that guy involved your kid in childish mud slinging, and I think most people would forgive you for being especially irked about it - but to own up to your own perceived shortcomings in the thread shows just the kind of community spirit that makes this a great place.

The original nudes thread way back when were on Proboards got shut down b/c they deemed it violating TOS. So, just like you guessed Derek.

We keep forgetting that a lot of people browsing these boards may be under age and/or doing so at work. So the NSFW has to be kept in mind and also to not get in trouble.

4Chan we are not.

Forgive my naivete, but what is 4Chan?

I agree with what Rambo said, I wasn't going to address the hatred/tension toward me, and I still won't go into it.

But I have been talked to and I understand why people were upset with me. I have apologized to all parties and there is more to the story than most people know. What happened, happened and while I don't want to simple say "bury the hatchet" the only people that bring it up, were my involved and do not know not sides of the story.

I'm not a saint, I don't expect to be treated as such. But if you're going to suggest that weeks (months?) from the aftermath that I get banned for an issue that was already handled, it's not appropriate.

Things good have been handled better on all ends, stop kicking up dust.

I enjoy this place and I don't need to be repeatedly crucified.

Thank you.

Holy crap I must have missed the last 98% of the shitstorm that went on in that thread.  Last I knew there was the start of shit talking but nothing to the extent that it seems it got to.

Man advice threads should be about questioning how many rings is to many for a dude to wear!

(sorry madie I got reminded o the glory days of that thread)

This post has cleared up a lot for me. I couldn't understand who you were (just joined) and why you were acting like a (pretty much annoying) veteran in the Blink thread.

I think it's also a fair suggestion that we take a few of our disagreements that are tending towards the personal side to PM instead of blowing up whole threads. The vast majority of folks on here are very reasonable and with mostly the same interests as one another. I make this suggestion from personal initiation of misunderstanding and the desire for less-than-public resolution.

I think it's also worth noting that VC is not the same place from even two years ago. The membership numbers are huge and this is going to mean more and more newbies starting bad threads, trolls causing problems and hopefully the continued addition of good members. I guess the good will come with some bad.

I think we need to make our disagreements more public.  I say a public airing of grievances thread.  That'll bring the LoL's.

I find it hilarious that the first post in this thread by the cat person says 'if you dont like it, dont click on it' then goes on to say that they dont like the porn threads.

Also, murder is illegal, rape is illegal, torture is illegal, porn... is not. I didnt even knew they existed but do realize this is the internet and that stuff happens, perhaps you should take your own advice.
