Shitty Rambo
Updated again. We need 3 more! Edit: Pulled from the above comments! The calendar is now complete (although I may shuffle a few in the last week around a bit). Like I mentioned before, if anyone has trouble getting any of these I should be able to help via PM. Make sure you have something like BitComet or Vuze installed on your computer.

GreatGreenOne77
Haven't been an avid horror watcher for a while now, so lots of these are completely new to me so that makes it more interesting. A few of these are remakes I haven't seen but have seen the originals, so that should make it even more interesting.
+hecollec+or
Haven't been an avid horror watcher for a while now, so lots of these are completely new to me so that makes it more interesting. A few of these are remakes I haven't seen but have seen the originals, so that should make it even more interesting. The 2 remakes on the list are actually way better than the originals. Yup I said it!

+hecollec+or
woah, that's a bold statement elis, now I have to go see the list... I loathe the original ISOYG (somewhere in the horror thread me & another dude discuss it at length), & TTDS remake far transcends the original run-of-the-mill slasher. And the fact that the original TTDS exists in the world of the remake, & what they do with it, is surprisingly well done & effective . KingTacoMunster
100% on TTDS, but not sold on ISOYG
Rip
Definitely agree about TTDS. The original was alright, but I also thought it was pretty boring. The remake/sequel was fantastic though.
hippielauryn
Soooo excited to start this! Already got my Netflix all cued up, and looked up some of the films I didn't know. Good job everyone, and special thanks to Rambo for putting it together. Shitty Rambo
+hecollec+or
100% on TTDS, but not sold on ISOYG The long & short of my thoughts on the original ISOYG are this: It's a rape porn masquerading as a feminist tale of revenge. It's an hour of unwatchable sexual abuse & about 15-20 minutes of (lightweight) payback that in no way comes close to justifying the previous hour of female-inflicted sexual violence. The remake balances these two sides out, somewhat tones down the abuse, & has scenes of vengeance that are apt & necessary. The men get what they deserve in spades & it's awesome. (I actually cheered through the last 40 minutes or so) I feel really really strongly about this sort of thing, & believe the original is one of the most harmful & toxic movies ever filmed. Edit: Understand I'm not saying fans of the original are bad or fucked up or anything like that. We all have different perceptions of things. This is just how I view the film on its own. KingTacoMunster
totally understand, and agree with you on the unwatchable part. ive never been a fan of it, but also didn't think the remake was much better. so they are about equal in my book. but I guess if I think about it, I would rather watch the remake. so I now, 100% agree with you on both good sir. I would be curious on your thoughts for The Last House on the Left, which I could see a same point of view for that and the remake. but I feel the original is the better of course. +hecollec+or

I think the original is much better for it's ability to make one uneasy while watching it. But, that crazy bluegrass comedy music playing in the background interrupts what would have been a totally horrifying film if they had left it out. The idea of the film is the best for feeling helpless, being murdered in your own back yard with help just out of reach...

I absolutely LOVE the remake. I watch it every summer. It's a fucking masterpiece imo. The last 45 minutes are some of the most exhilarating stuff I've seen on film. & I appreciate that they reduced much of the horror of the original down to one (still tough to watch, I just skip over it) scene. It's still very effective & gets the point across of how horrible & sadistic the villains are. The acting, the score, the direction of the remake is just phenomenal. I have respect for the original. It's a grueling grindhouse flick & it works. I don't believe the elements & tone come close to ISOYG in terms of how the atrocities are portrayed on film. ISOYG uses nudity & needlessly long scenes of graphic abuse to its detriment. We get it, these guys are awful. But why film rape scenes as if they're sex scenes? Why focus so much on nudity? I believe the original was just trying to get sick fucks off. LHOTL treats these elements differently imo. There is little explicit detail. Much is implied as opposed to shown. It's still absolutely harrowing & disgusting, & I haven't watched it in about a decade, but I don't see it as the destructive force that I believe ISOYG is. & I agree with GGO. I enjoy the score of the original LHOTL, but it makes zero sense in the context of the film. I guess Craven was trying to be ironic? Or just do something so different he thought it might work? It doesn't.

GreatGreenOne77
Anywho..... enough of my diatribes. Innkeepers tomorrow night! Slow burn ghost story in the best possible way. I got the wife to agree to watch with me, and I got the first 2 weeks of movies already set up and ready to go. Cool enough is that neither of us has ever seen or even heard of The Innkeepers, so it will be a good start! I can't wait to see TFTC Demon Knight. She's never seen it, and I haven't seen it since it being in the theatre in high school so I'm thinking I'm going to dork out totally just watching the TFTC intro and getting to see the Crypt Keeper lol

I'm excited for you guys The Innkeepers is a lot of fun, if you have the patience. Same with House of the Devil. Ti West knows how to let the tension build. Oh man, Demon Knight is so fucking awesome! Such a guilty pleasure. Such a great time. Jealous you saw it on the big screen! Tales From The Crypt is the best horror franchise. I still watch the show on occasion. Hell, even Bordello of Blood was entertaining (mostly cuz boobs, but still) GreatGreenOne77
danionly
Never seen the Innkeepers so I'm pretty excited as well. I think I may have to watch tonight though since I have a concert to go to tomorrow. I don't know about you guys, but here it's going to be raining for a week straight, so it'll be perfect 'scary movie watchin' nights. KingTacoMunster
Elis, I again agree 100% about the original of ISOYG, but sadly the remake didn't do anything for me. I will now definitely watch it again, to see your view points. As for LHOTL, I should have been more detailed I guess about comparing that and ISOYG, I was comparing them in the context of being "revenge" films. I just think Craven did a much better job, and also think the score is perfect. makes it almost seem youre about to watch a different kinda movie, and them BLAM! woman bites a weenie off. for that reason, I think I will listen to my LHOTL score tonight

There's so seldom justice in this world, that I tend to gravitate toward revenge films. probably my favorite sub-genre. Her vengeance in the remake, to me, is amazing. What she does to those "men" (I use this term very loosely, as they're really nothing more than animals) is what I think should be done to anyone that does what they did. My best friend's sister was assaulted years ago, & I told him if she was ever comfortable telling us who did it, I would do whatever had to be done to hold them accountable. I don't care if I went to jail or was executed... I would destroy the animals responsible without a second thought. To this day, if she ever told us, they would die slowly. Revenge isn't always the answer, but in cases like this, I don't believe there is another viable option. If someone is capable of that kind of violence, it probably won't be the last time they do it. They have to be stopped, by any means necessary & the original's castration scene was excellent. But what is done to the guy in the remake is a whole new level of awesome.
