ronniethebear
Don, post some pics of your shelf when its done.By the way, the shelf is not curved like in the picture...that was just taken with a fisheye lens. My boss (the owner of a photography studio) couldn't figure that out. What an idiot. Damn, I really wanted it to be curved.
counterfiction
that's pretty fucking killer. i think a set of designs/material list to build your own shelving system would be kickass.

don
Just finished the last coat of glaze. After she dries she moves inside. Bottom 3 shelves will hold 12" records etc. Middle shelf will hold 10" records etc. Top two shelves will hold 7" records etc. 4 feet wide. It is so fucking heavy. Made it with red oak. Expensive wood, but, this will last forever.
mcm1610
Curious... what width wood do you guys use? I can find 12" and 14" planks and don't know if I need the extra 2" or not. BTW, that's beautiful.
don
I used 12" boards and wood glued/nailed 2" boards to make the width 14" You can sort of see it on the second shelf.

lydiawesome
It's times like these that I wish I had an arts and crafts buddy to make shit with and that I wasn't a cripple. Those are beautiful shelves and I applaud you good sirs!
thomas
I was going to start building one this weekend with my dad, but he thought it'd be a better idea to have our carpenter friend do it. I wanted to do it myself, but I'm sure his will come out a lot better.

kouka
I wonder if the lp shelves sag when theyre full. post a pic. if the span is over 36" (like this one appears to be), they'll sag if there aren't dividers (vertical pieces) or a face frame.
