I was always under the belief that Harbaugh puts on a bit of a front with the media; he may be prickly enough that people dislike him, but I couldn't care less as long as everyone in the building loves him - which was my assumption.

Surprised to say the least that its so far the opposite that they're willing to let him go.

I would trade a first round pick for a great coach. It's a position like any other (except a little different because it doesn't count against the cap). But you need to have a good coach to win, just like you need to have good players.

I wouldn't give up a package like Tampa Bay did, though. That's just ridiculous. Too bad Tampa didn't want Morningweg. We would have given him up for a 5th rounder in 02

Jadaveon Clowney DE 4.50 forty yard dash

Everyone is making it seem like it's no big deal that he only did 21 reps because he's a "speed rusher" but I think that's BS. I don't get why he seems to always pass on the opportunity to prove he isn't overrated in terms of work-ethic

Dude, he's 21 years old. NFL teams can add strength to his resume no problem. What the NFL can't do is teach a 6,6" 249 pounder speed. And come on, "I don't get why he seems to always pass on the opportunity to prove he isn't overrated in terms of work-ethic" This is the entertainment business. Of course one would want to display their flashiest talents. It's important to think of these guys as commodities coming out of college and about to become millionaires. It's all hype and they're trying to do what's best for themselves financially. I don't blame anyone for displaying certain features of their game to potentially land a bigger check.

Of course with all the being said I get where you're coming from. 21 reps could sort of be equivalent to 21 snaps on the field and if he's out of strength after 21 run plays, what's the point of him on the field! (Well ok, muscles do regenerate power through time so he should be fine even as a 3rd down specialist)

I don't think it's that much to ask to want a first round draft pick to show that he is going to be worth the "pricetag". I think Clowney is an above average pass rusher, but you would be stupid to waste a first round pick on a 3rd down and blitz only player. Too much talent this year.

Actually it's not strange at all for teams to take DE's in the first round and play them as 3rd down specialists especially in the 3-4 scheme (typically transforms to the nickel or dime package) for their rookie campaigns.

But yes I agree too much talent

How many times in a game does a DE pull his arms in to his chest and try to shove an OL onto his back. Then, how many times does he get into a footrace in a game?

Bench is more important for offensive lineman. They play a lot more vertically standing in place and using upper body strength to throw ends off there stride. It's also a pretty artificial stat in that you never have a rigid surface at your back to stand straight against and push.

Military press or inclined bench (kind of a 50/50 split between a military press and bench) are better measures of football strength. Not sure they even measure at combine or if they just get no hype.

I think you're underrating the value of a top flight pass rusher. Someone to rush the passer is arguably the most important thing to have on a football team after a QB. Especially in todays NFL

I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the deal Cooper just got. I'm sure Maclin wants something similar, if not better, and the Eagles don't want to commit that much to him.

yeah, yesterday i heard they both were close, and that seemed to change once coopers deal came out.  not an eagles fan, but like chip kellys offense and really want to see what its like when they add maclin to the pace of it.  hopefully they can find a way to get him on a 1 year deal.

the ravens got to get to work.  eugene monroe, art jones, pitta, and daryl smith.  all these guys are looking for big money.  i want to see eugene monroe and daryl smith locked in for a few years and if we have to a franchise tag on pitta.  however, i don't mind seeing pitta walk or art jones.  pitta hasn't earned the big bucks quite yet.

I figured you would be all over the story about Matt Elam working a part time job in Gainesville at a Finish Line this offseason, Malone.

haha i read that yesterday. i figured it would begin ray rice jokes and how he needs to get a second job.

it is definitely pretty cool thoguh, especially for a 1st round draft pick to be doing.  staying out of trouble, thinking about the fact that one hit could end a career, and still trying to live another dream.

i don't know if he is doing it this year, but last year torrey smith worked as an intern in the office of a maryland US rep and i want to say hartline actually still works at a drive-thru.
