You would just get so far and then lose, because there was no saving. Fucking awful. Though what was supposed to be Super Mario Bros. 2 was insanely hard to. Not the US version that was all trippy and deamlike (because it was based on another Japanese game) but the original that was only released in Japan (and later as a pack for the SNES as the "lost levels"). You just cruise around and try to find shit to do, but I played for like, 10 hours and was never able to fully complete a single dungeon. I think one of the first times I realized I loved my fiancee was when we were hanging out with these three friends of ours who are total basement dweller gamer kids, she got loaded on gin, and proceeded to play through the whole lost levels with no continues in forty minutes. Jaws were dropped. It was so hot. I think the hardest game was a boy and his blob. If you lost the booklet you couldn't figure out which jelly beans did what and it fucking sucked.
