shows with one good season

The vast majority of stuff on TV should never have made it past pilot status...whatever works I guess.

i've always thought a really interesting thing for the networks to do for a few months is just to air all of the pilots that they have sitting on their shelves. just one-and-done them all, back to back to back to back. no regularly programmed sitcoms or dramas. just air ALL the pilots.

they could turn it into an advantage to their ratings by making it viewer-interactive. have everybody who watched "rate" the show on the network's website after it airs. then, the 3 pilots (or 5 pilots, or 10 pilots) that get the highest ratings get signed on to make a full season.

I like this idea. I never would have thought about doing this, but now that you have I'm curious as to why it hasn't been done before.

and Kirby, seriously you liked all of those Arrested Development Season 3 episodes "for British eyes only?" UGH!

season 2 of east bound and down sucked. who fucking cares about baseball?! and the jokes weren't even that good.

Weeds.

Not gonna try to argue for Eastbound, but Weeds, really? The first 4 seasons are excellent and the last two have been a little shaky but still solid. I just can't see how you'd say they only had one good season.

Flight of the Conchords season 2 had some solid stuff but it wasn't on par with the first.

i agree, and i think the reason for me was all the good songs i knew from them before they got their show were used in the first season.

then again sugarlumps and too many dicks on the dance floor were pretty cool.

Stella. They only had one season, but it was good. I wasn't so much interested in Michael & Michael Have Issues though.

i need to watch my Stella dvd. i liked what i saw on tv, just haven't given the dvd a decent chance. i'd liked anything associated with the cast of The State though.

Michael & Michael was good though, what i'd expect from those two especially the way Stella was.

and of course:

Showalter and Black confirmed on March 3, 2010 via their Twitter accounts that the show had been canceled.

family guy really? do you think the first was the best? i think it's gotten a little weaker but it's still hilarious imho

Family Guy is usually pretty "meh" to me, with a few exceptions here and there, but I think it's second season was the best, most consistently funny one.

you must have missed the Halloween episode this past sunday. hilarious.

i like Heroes, but the whole carnival thing was stupid as hell.

my picks: (most were canceled after one season or got killed by the writer's strike)

The Winner

short-lived pilot season on Fox with Rob Corddry. show was awesome. i'm sure he doesn't need a sitcom with a movie career but it'd have been nice to have more of this show.

Dirty Sexy Money

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Sexy_Money

it had a floundering 2nd season but it felt like one complete season altogether. Peter Krause (Six Feet Under, Parenthood), Donald Sutherland, William Baldwin, Lucy Liu.

In Case Of Emergency

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Case_of_Emergency_%28TV_series%29

one that died during the writer's strike. it was pretty funny, kinda stupid. Jonathan Silverman, Kelly Hu, David Arquette)

The Class

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Class_%28TV_series%29

one season show with Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, Freaks And Geeks) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family). i'm kinda glad this got canceled now since those 2 went on to better shows.

The Black Donnellys

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Donnellys

Jonathan Tucker (Six Feet Under, The Ruins, Pulse), Olivia Wilde (House). didn't even make it through the whole season on tv. they got canceled and then the dvd released was the complete series. it was decent, had some potential. must have bombed out in the ratings.

and sad, for a solid 2 season show on Starz:

Party Down

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_down

On June 30, 2010, Starz canceled Party Down. While the show was warmly received by critics, its Nielsen ratings were very low. Losing Jane Lynch to Glee as well as Adam Scott to Parks and Recreation were believed to be additional factors in the decision to end the series.

this 2nd season cancelation still bugs me too:

Pushing Daisies

show was awesome. had tons of potential, good guests and plots. it seemed doomed to fail from the beginning.
