Looks like EMI is remastering the entire Pink Floyd discography.

Pre-orders for Dark Side are already up on Amazon

Since I don't own any Floyd on vinyl, I'll probably be picking these up as they release them. Supposedly James Guthrie is doing the remastering.

Weird. When I first read about this a few months back it wasn't very clear whether the same remastering was being used across both formats so I just assumed it was. I've looked over the whypinkfloyd page quite a bit and have found nothing specifying any of this. If anyone finds something that distinguishes this please let me know.

digital or analog, as long as it is a fantastic remaster job ill be happy. of course a mfsl repress would be optimal, an amazing digital remaster on vinyl will still sound better then the cd.

Thank you. Digital is not inherently of poor sound quality. A compromising digital consumer format from the early 80s that should have died off ten years ago.... or at least been updated to something respectable like DVDA or SACD... well... fuck that.

Waiting for the price of the Discovery (14 albums) vinyl box.

Special offer of $199.99 here:

Looks like a cool set, not as sweet as the uber deluxe Achtung Baby boxset though:

Agreed. Digital CAN sound good, but the 16/44 format should have been upgraded by the late 90's. And now with digital downloads, the 16/44 format CD will probably die soon, and leave the option of CD quality audio downloads, or hi rez 24/96 and whatnot.

Of course, this is only relevant if you care about digital audio. I prefer vinyl, which sounds brilliant when mastered and pressed correctly. And I just can't get excited about digital audio at all. If I'm going to be bothered with a physical format in the 21st century, it's gonna be vinyl.

And mastering practices need to be fixed. These will never sound good if all of the dynamics are squished so it sounds great in your car!

And once again, here's hoping to a great direct from the analog tapes mono vinyl pressing of Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

where is the list of what they are pressing and what they arent?

all i see is that dark side is coming back on vinyl, and EVERYTHING is coming back on cd.

animals is easily their best chunk of work, and there is no excuse for it to not be repressed (except for the fact that they pressed several hundred thousand about 35 years ago).

On the original linked page (http://www.whypinkfloyd.com/), there are tabs for:

* the Discovery editions (all 14 albums on CD available individually or as a box set)

* the Experience editions (2xCD version of Dark Side, 2xCD version of Wish You Were Here, 3xCD version of The Wall),

* the Immersion Editions (6 disc box set of Dark Side, 5 disc box set of Wish You Were Here, 6 disc box set of The Wall)

* a new Best Of CD

* the vinyl editions (Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall)

I hope they release more vinyl reissues, but this reissue campaign was announced months ago (http://pitchfork.com/news/42471-pink-floyd-launch-massive-reissue-campaign/) and the details haven't changed. Maybe if the vinyl sells well enough, they'll reissue other albums as well.

I'm with everyone on the whole digital remaster business. Just seems like the opposite of what I want to hear for these pressings. The only one I really want is WYWH, but I won't be buying until I hear some reviews.

get yourself one of the korean pressings of WYWH on CBS/Sony.

they are cheap and sound amazing!
