patron
I sold a bunch of records last night and now Ebay says that payment is being delayed 21 days. It supposed to protect buyers from getting screwed over, but all it's doing is making me pay my ebay fees and shipping cost out of my own pocket. https://cms.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=security/ebay_payments_learn_more "Why aren’t my funds available as soon as my buyers pay? Here are the most common reasons why: You have a Below Standard seller rating on eBay You have a limited selling history on eBay, which means that any of the following are true: It's been less than 90 days since your first successful sale on eBay, or You've made 25 or fewer sales transactions on eBay, or You've sold less than $250 on eBay" None of these things are true. I sell stuff on ebay because of the increased hits. It makes the fees worth paying, but this is bullshit.
mrc
that sucks... i think my upcoming round of auctions will be my last. Started setting up a Discogs.com store and will be using that from now on.
hudsoncomplex
I'm dealing with this too. Bullshit.
violetflower
Discogs is way better than eBay for selling records most of the time. I hate how eBay doesn't give a fuck about people who sell on their site, so I took most of my business elsewhere.
jerseydave77
What percentage of each sale does Discogs take? I'm about ready to make the jump as well.
mrc
from what i read last night i think its 6% which is pretty good.
madtired
I love selling on discogs-- sadly though the traffic rate is much lower so stuff tends to sit. and sit.. and sit.....
motorbike
i havent had this issue with ebay. everything i had that ended last night and recieved payment on has hit my paypal.
bathroommonkey
i thought they only hold money if your feedback is under 100 or 200.
Guest
To the person that asked, yes, Discogs takes 6%. You still have the PayPal fees as well, but it is better than eBay.
jblahmaster
This has happened to me as well. It's really aggravating.
jblahmaster
Also what they'll do near the end of the month is look into to see how your selling and may stop holding the money, but if not they'll continue to do so.
RustyShackelford
i used to have this happen, and then when i made 10 more transactions with my current bank account/paypal it was fine. i recently switched to another bank and now its doing it again, im pissed because i only sold something because i needed the money right then, and now i have to wait until halloween to get it. kriss
I love selling on discogs-- sadly though the traffic rate is much lower so stuff tends to sit. and sit.. and sit..... Which I think is kind of great since the site's far more apt for deals to be found. Records just sitting there also tends to psych out certain sellers so if I see something's been around for several months, I usually shoot them a lower offer and they often times accept it. lexicondevil
When I opened a new account they held the money until I received postive feedback from the buyer. It is bullshit. Ebay is a monopoly that needs to be dismantled. I have bought a couple records on discogs and they have been good transactions.
kforkevin777
Yeah, I've had this problem with eBay somewhat too. Usually if you print the shipping label, you can get it out within hours. The 21 days is only if there's no type of shipping/tracking info.

The 21 days is only if there's no type of shipping/tracking info. Can't print the label from eBay without an America shipping address, and the cost of a tracking number via Canada Post throws my shipping prices out of whack. Had I known about this I could have charged more, but I already lose $1-3 on shipping each time to stay competitive.
mrcapitillar
I've been fucked so many times by Ebay that I don't sell anything on there anymore.

Good for the buyer absolutely. Reality is that the site still is way more popular outside of the US than in. It started as all electronic music too so that contributes to its relatively obscure place on the web. Kind of like the out-of-the-way record store that no one knows about. pushbacktosquare
Dealt with this too, it was so frustrating. It's a new policy, and if you have enough good feedback, the new pending balance policy will not apply to you. This caused so much confusion, it was annoying as fuck. Staying away from eBay for a cool minute.
papermonsters
Yeah, they held my money for like 11 days recently. I provided everything on the shipping and had the person leave me feedback on quick shipping and they still held my money for like 6 days longer. diabretic
it is definitely bullshit. Ive got some money on hold right now and it drives me fucking crazy.
Snaggle Von Swift
side question.. did they always take a portion of your shipping cost? Shipping and other costs less sales tax: $3.00 (Fixed Price) Nov-05-11 09:27:56 PDT Final Value Fee on Shipping US $0.39 this is getting ridiculous.
Guest
Yeah, they used to charge a listing fee and then take a portion of the sale value. Not sure if they still do; stopped selling on eBay due to their fees, haha.
