karadotcollett
No, Buford is way far from me, never actually been there. I live in Norcross but North Point mall is the closest to me. The North Point one just shrunk so fast, and so much it's kind of confusing. And lol at people probably getting butthurt at me not liking Hot Topic and smiting. kriss
I don't know. Atlanta suburbs just have a lot of shitty better-than-you scene kids and I guess they all want to work at the mall. Cause they're mallxcore or something. This is still the case eh? It was like that in the early 2000's as well - pretty lame. There were some rad shows at Discover Mills but other than that and some house shows, nothing notable. The North Point one is the first place where I bought new vinyl when I started collecting - a Planes Mistaken For Stars 7" and something else that I can't remember at the moment. Good times. someasiandude
i agree, i've been to all the hot topics around this area and the North Point went from being well stocked to barely stocked within about a week's time.
karadotcollett
I mean downtown is good (Masquerade, Wonderroot, Center Stage/Loft/Vinyl, Unicorn). The suburbs are just terrible. Especially Marietta. Swayze's Venue makes me want to puke. I have been to one show there in the past 5 years because nothing good ever comes through there. And I still had to wait for all the local crabcore bands to play before Hawthorne Heights. And I'm glad someone understands what I am talking about with the local HT. kriss
Swayze's has always been awful. Back in 2004 I saw a lot of great bands there (mwY, Comeback Kid, etc) but the owner is a tool and the crowd has always been entitled suburb hardcore kids. The only notable thing from that time frame was the older HC scene because a lot of folks recognized how crappy the venues were and created DIY spaces to hold them - lots of great bands during that time (Fight Like A Brave, etc)
karadotcollett
This kind of stuff makes me wish I was older. I caught mwY opening for Alkaline Trio and I love Alkaline Trio but I really don't like the typical Alk3 superfan because they hate all other music. See: Ticketmaster reviews of that tour. I wrote a good review of mwY on the Alk3 page just to take away from all the pissed off people. "Although I had to wait through some seriously HORRIBLE openers, Alkaline Trio took the stage with a roar of applause and screams from the audience. The band acts so humble and happy to be with the audience that it makes the experience even better." "The Drowning Men were awful, with the exception of their second song. MeWithoutYou wasn't that great either, definitely too repetitive and relying upon Modest Mouse's fame to carry them." "Mewithoutyou however was terrible, everybody but there singer i enjoyed. You couldn't even hear what the lead singer was saying at all and he just took away from the rest of the band" Case in point...
idreamofpunk
"... MeWithoutYou wasn't that great either, definitely too repetitive and relying upon Modest Mouse's fame to carry them." Wait, WHAT? WHAT???? I usually hate the Alk3 superfan on principle. They're the ones who go to Dan's solo shows and have signs that say "THANK YOU FOR MUSIC AND FOR CHICAGO." and say "ALKALINE TRIO WAS THE REASON I MOVED TO CHICAGO." And spot Dan's parents and walk up to them to thank them for conceiving Dan. Yes. I witnessed all this at the Dan Andriano solo show back in September. karadotcollett
Oh wow. That sounds terrifying. I actually had a discussion with my guitar teacher about how terrible superfans are, and picked out bands with terrible superfans. It was really sad there was like 7 people in the audience including me that were singing along with mwY.

Sh_tluck
I swear I saw like 7 copies of these when I went in there yesterday. I'll buy them and sell them to who wants them if I know I won't just end up being stuck with 7 copies. I won't be an ass about the price either. Only problem is I only have one record mailer right now....
