lexicondevil
Thanks for the Judgement Day video. Do you know what album those songs from? Most of it is from "peacocks and pink monsters" which i think u can only get from their website www.stringmetal.com. They have self released everything theyve done so far. Heres their store http://judgementday.bigcartel.com/ Wow, cool band. Looks like they're local for me too. I wish they'd do some vinyl pressings. burnthealbum
The best to me would be between Grails and If These Trees Could Talk, but my favorite is easily Souvenir's Young America. Also have to mention We All Inherit the Moon.
mrewest
Wow, cool band. Looks like they're local for me too. I wish they'd do some vinyl pressings. You should find a way to see them live. Because they're even better live. They only had one 7" they released which was called "Out of the Abyss - Live on tape". It only had two songs on it. I wish they would release some vinyl as well. They have been working on a "unplugged" style new album. Not sure exactly when it'll be released, but hopefully it gets a vinyl release. afireinside86
Sigur Rós (not entirely instrumental, but who cares) Russian Circles have hardly been mentioned, what's wrong with you people! besides them, Mono is majestic.
donlombardo
In the Wake of Giants' self titled is great. Their follow up is more like Listener than their instrumental stuff. Also 65daysofstatic, Windmills by the Ocean, and Over the Ocean (has vocals) are always a welcome addition Listener, the band? mrewest
After seeing If These Trees Could Talk tonight, they have solidified themselves as my favorite post-rock band. Easily.
appletree
So I have bought a lot lately and have yet to listen to a lot of the bands mentioned still. Recently picked up stuff from mono, ITTCT, mogwai, godspeed, gifts from enola, caspian, giants, beware of safety, do make say think, hmmm thats all i can remember off the top of my head. Things that I really enjoyed so far from the very first listen was ITTCT and Giants. Listened to some of the others once or none yet though. Don't think I have spun the Mogwai, most of the Mono, and one of the two DMST that I picked up. Need to spend time with Caspian, BoS, Mogwai, GFE, etc. Perhaps others I need to check out (really need to just listen/spend more time with some I already have! and will once I get back in town) My main reason for bumping this though was to ask about any post-rock bands that use a piano? I am sure Mono and some of the bigger outfits do, but what about smaller (does not have to be small though) sized bands that have a piano as a major influence in their music? jipc
Been meaning to add Giant Sons to this thread. The Beavers' (propagandhi axe shredder) old band. Anthology available on G7. The begining of this song has a "2,3,GO!" intro. Voiding this from being "instrumental". Cracking though!!!
jblahmaster
Grails uses some piano.

Yes, they are in my top three post rock bands, along with Explosions In The Sky and If These Trees Could Talk. Other bands come close, but these three are top of the game with great dynamics and musicianship, in my opinion.
jblahmaster
As much as i like some of the bands posted here. Nothing can beat Grails as far as musicianship and creativity
appletree
Hmm powerful statement about Grails, I will have to give them a listen and a chance.
justin834
Not sure if these guys have been brought up yet but the band Hammock puts out really beautiful stuff.
mrewest
I've been a casual listener of Grails so far, but have loved what I've heard from them. What is their essential album up until this point? Also, I finally got my Caspian - Tertia copies the other day. Holy shit that's a good album.
otto802
I don't own any of their stuff yet, but I really like all of the music I have heard from Holy Fuck out of Toronto. Can keyboard driven be post-rock?
ekorz
the Deep Elm label has been doing some great things with this genre lately, I highly recommend you check out their free Postrockology comp (though many have vocals) http://www.deepelm.com/postrockology/ Standouts are Athletics (some vox), Dorena and Moonlit Sailor Otherwise my very favorite post-rock instrumental band that barely got any notice is a small act from Utah called Player Piano. Subdued, textured, complex, and beautiful. I have it on CD but I'm not sure if it's in print still -- here's the Amazon so you can hear some clips http://www.amazon.com/Satellite-Bonus-Tracks/dp/B003PJRAYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333682694&sr=8-

rickydenim
Hey guys, my band recorded a rehearsal last night of a song we are working on. I'd love for you dudes to check it out and let me know your thoughts, I don't know too many people here in Australia into post-rock bands. It's in demo stage at the moment and still needs a lot of work, but I thought the video turned out pretty cool. http://youtu.be/FZuci9eCW0c
deafmx
shit. until i read this thread, i forgot just how much post-rock, instrume(n)tal, etc., type of music my vinyl collection consists of. i'm proud so many people have mentioned the bands i love already, especially Mono, Grails, Maserati, Neil On Impression, Blueneck, Jakob, Daturah and Giants. a couple i don't think i saw: Nomia & Canyons Of Static (very fucking tempted to release vinyl for both these bands) http://www.myspace.com/nomiaband http://canyonsofstatic.bandcamp.com/ Lights At Sea http://lightsatsea.bandcamp.com/ Bergmál (this needs to be on vinyl) http://bergmal.bandcamp.com/ Les Fragments de la Nuit (not your typical post-rock, but such a good listen regardless) http://denovali.com/lesfragmentsdelanuit/
