geezfools
this thread happened about 10 months ago, and i downloaded at least 9 bands as a result. not one of them made it in to my general rotation. looking at your last.fm profile, I can see why... talkinboutwillis
These are my current top 3... Mercury Program Turing Machine Enemies Also there's a new NJ bands that I feel like you guys would appreciate called Vasudeva. Give this one a shot seriously. It's free too. http://vasudeva.bandcamp.com/
edgedestroys
I don't really have anything new to add here haha. Explosions, Caspian and This Will Destroy You are way way way up there for me. Deadhorse too, I wish more people knew about them. They're so nice in person (Brian and Rachel especially) and they're so damn good live, you cannot see them and not get pumped when they're playing. The Six Parts Seven, Moonlit Sailor and Early Day Miners are a few bands I had pop up on my post rock station on Pandora that were decent. Moving Mountain's older stuff had some post rock-esque stuff going on that was cool. Also Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde by Alcest was decent although it's not strictly speaking post rock. suchashorttime
Championship, a side project of The Saddest Landscape / Her Breath on Glass, was AWESOME. their only release was the split with HBOG, but it's really awesome. I second Unwed Sailor, too. The Faithful Anchor is beautiful.

I really liked Moonlit Sailor when I listened to them. Colors In Stereo was a really happy album. Pretty much the Fang Island of post-rock
edgedestroys
I have yet to hear that one. I only grabbed So Close To Life since the track that played was from that but I'll have to check it out! Also forgot to mention Pompeii. They're not entirely instrumental but they have some really good instrumental tracks.

idreamofpunk
I like this kind of music, but going to see the bands have been very underwhelming. I saw Godspeed twice last March and while it sounded lovely, it's not a show I can go to when I've worked and have been up since 5 in the morning. Left early from that show when I fell asleep in my seat. I felt like such an ass because i love Godspeed, but I couldn't stay awake any longer. Anyway, the two I've caught live (and drug my wife to because while she likes how this stuff sounds, she can't listen to it for long because she gets bored) are Godspeed and Mono. Definitely think I'm going to check out stuff that's listed here, though.
nothingnatural
Most all have been covered but I'm quite surprised no one has mentioned Pelican. They're on the heavier side but still fall into the category. I honesty get tired of all these sub genres and what not. God Is An Astronaut Nice to see someone mentioned them. Good man. lostinspectrum
Pretty sure no one said tristeza. Spine and sensory is one of my all time favorite albums.
cactusbot
I was about to post Tristeza - Spine And Sensory because they always get left out. Besides that, I think these are classics that should get more respect. Slint - Spiderland Bark Psychosis - Hex Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die
